He didn't use the ground to help make the catch. He made a great catch and maintained possession. It just happened to touch the ground after he'd made the catch. Hitting the ground just helped demonstrate how much control he had of it (because it didn't jar it loose).

Ok. I guess it's as long as he doesn't trap it. Makes sense I guess. Sorry to turn this thread into a discussion on the rules. Lets get back to the game!

When a player runs out of bound they don't always stop the clock? I apologize if that's a stupid question but i always thought that the clock stopped when players run out of bounds.

If they don't have forward progress when going OB, it's as if they didn't go out so the clock doesn't stop.

Also they changed the rule once the ball is spotted the clock starts, except near end of each halfhttp://www.nfl.com/rulebook/timing

I assumed that a guy who catches it in mid air has to keep it off the ground. I could be wrong but it seems like it should be the rule. ??

Yeah I thought the tip rolling across the ground would make it incomplete.
