Giants May Be "Stuck" With Shockey (1 Viewer)

From Vinny DiTrani of the Bergin Record-

"From a source that has been accurate much of the time, the Giants have given up efforts to try to trade TE Jeremy Shockey. The rumor had been a very complicated multi-team deal was in the works, one which relied on a lot of things falling into place. One of the things that wasn't, however, was Shockey's ankle, and his inability to pass a team physical."

Can't trade damaged goods. So what now? Do they cut him or put him on PUP?

How about he just shows up to play for the Giants in week 1?Just because he's rumored to not be able to pass a physical in June, doesn't mean he won't be ready to play in September.

Furthermore the article doesn't even imply anything, not even a rumor, coming close to endangering his playing status for the upcoming season or PUP.

That just seems to be your own spin.

The rumor part is the trade they'd hoped to execute. The fact of the matter is that Shockey can't pass a physical, taking him off the market. The guy's a cancer to the team and the locker room at this point. It couldn't be more obvious. The Giants will most certainly be reviewing their options.

It is neither obvious nor a forgone conclusion that Shockey will be a cancer to the Giants.Shockey has always been vocal and although getting in a purported screaming match with the GM is not a small deal, he is apparently still liked by his teammates. Furthermore, much of this has been blown out of preportion because it's the off-season and besides players getting arrested, there's little actual football news out there. He'll spout off once in a while (always has) but he shows up to play hard.

The Giants have a very good working relationship with Drew Rosenhaus and the best thing for Shockey and the Giants (assuming that Reece doesn't get what he'd want in compensation for Shockey now) would be for Shockey to show up, assuming he's healthy, play and increase his value for a trade or contract extention.

The thought of cutting him is ludicrous and putting him on PUP because he's gimpy in June is dramatically premature.

:goodposting: I dare say many players currently wouldn't pass a physical in June but will be on the field on opening weekend

I haven't heard anything about Shockey failing a physical. That story is from someone's blog; it is credible?
To the best of my understanding, the rumor isn't even that he failed a physical, it's that he would have likely failed a physical, if a rumored trade got to that point.

Very

In a recent interview he said his ankle was fine, even made a comment like "finally" since it's bugged him since Dec of 06

Good replyI would also add that it's possible no other player fires up his team more, when he's hot, than Shockey

Plax left Pitt as this malcontent people had issues with. He didn't practice much at all last year(but the reaction is 'we're glad he played') and now he's holding out. In NY and Pitt there's similarities to situations. The NY reaction is positive though.

Plax could easily have the venom of the press right now but for whatever reason Shockey's got it. Spinning is spinning no matter how ya slice it

Oh, well he must certainly be o.k. then. :spade: It amazes me how many people walk around with blinders on.If nobody thinks there's a problem in New York around the Shockey situation, you're either reluctant to see the reality for what it is or simply blind.C'mon.

This reminds me of last off-season when the Giants were about to implode because Coughlin was a "lame duck" and they had "lost" Tiki and Petitgout ... DOOMED!!!

Sure all is not well between Shockey and the Giants but to say that "The guy's a cancer to the team and the locker room at this point. It couldn't be more obvious." is well overstating the issue and not taking off-season news and reporter spin with the proper grain of salt that us seasoned fantasy football players should.I would not be surprised to see Shockey traded at some point if Reese gets his price but I would be surprised if it happened before next off-season. Right now, due to rumors of a bad ankle and overblown stories of his anger towards the Giants, his trade value is probably pretty low right now. What holds true for us is what holds true for NFL GMs; buy low and sell high.Give Shockey a TD or two week 1 against the Skins and there will be hugs and happiness all around.Perhaps your Dallas address has lead you to see raging fires in the Meadowlands when there is only little smoke being fanned around by the press. :wall:

wow, you infer alot from one sentence

Shockey has some issues but he could be exactly what the Giants need this year in order to avoid that post Super Bowl malaise.

Everybody knows bloggers are full of crap and just like to throw out inflammatory reports so they can get attention.

Not to get too involved in another Shockey rumor mill, but the correct name of the team is Super Bowl Champion New York Giants

Can I get an Amen!

I don't know about passing the physical, but I do know the Saints boards can not stop talking about the possiblity of getting Shockey. There are a couple of issues though.

First, New Orleans 2nd and 3rd round picks are held up by the Vilma trade from the Jets. If the Saints sign him, Jets get the 2nd and Saints get a 4th back. So, that limits the use of picks in the trade.

Also, a concern would be signing a plyer like Shockey long term. There would have to be a injury clause in there and the Saints just resigned Smith, they will have to resign Colston, J. Brown and J. Vilma if they like what they see from him.

Word is that the Saints also are impressed with their tackle prospects and they have quickly catching up to Jammal Brown. Brown was offered to KC to move up and get G. Dorsey, so he could be tresting the market, or the Saints are going to try to get something for him.

Link?I heard rumors, a little fluff, but never saw anything CLOSE to a good report on that, and it certainly wasn't corroborated by the Chiefs or Saints. The Saints also supposedly offered the 10th pick, the 40th pick and next year's first-rounder, but that rumor was compete baloney.

:goodposting: I don't really like Shockey, but he clearly plays hard!
