Glenn Frey Passed Away Today (1 Viewer)

I saw the Eagles Hell Freezes Over Tour in 1994...I saw them again in Detroit last July. Two of the best concerts I have ever been to. The mix of Eagle songs along with Henley, Frey and Walsh's solo stuff was perfect.
I saw them on that '94 tour too and agree...it was one of the best technical and most enjoyable concerts I have been to. Hit after hit, and they didn't even get to all their hits. Joe Walsh wore a beekeeper mask for part of it which seemed to work for him.

I thought since the David Bowie thread got so much attention, I'd give Glenn a little more love. As I mentioned a few days ago I grew up on the Eagles with my dad playing them all the time, and so here's a cheers to some of my favorite Glenn songs he either sang lead or co-sang lead on that I've always liked:

After the Thrill is Gone - This is one of my favorite Eagles songs. He and Henley swap leads. After the Thrill is Gone

Lyin' Eyes - I've always loved this song Lyin' Eyes Live

Ol' 55 - Frey sings the verses and Henley finishes the chorus. Very nice cover of Tom Waits' song Ol'55

Good Day in Hell - He and Henley sing together with Glenn more prominent Good Day in Hell Live

New Kid in Town - New Kid in Town Live

Peaceful Easy Feeling - Peaceful Easy Feeling Live

Tequila Sunrise - Tequila Sunrise

Take it Easy - Take it Easy Live

Already Gone - Already Gone Live

and my favorite Glenn solo song The One You Love Live

To Glenn :banned:

I'm really bummed by Frey's passing. I also saw them tour in 94' while I was in college, and though the tickets were pricey, I decided to go. Great show and am happy I went. He helped contribute some great music into our lives and seems that he was a great guy. Sad

"Part Of Me, Part Of You"

- Glenn Frey, Jack Tempchin

I felt it when the sun came up this morning

I knew that I could not wait another day

Darling, there is something I must tell you

A distant voice is calling me away

Until we find the bridge across forever

Until this grand illusion brings us home

You and I will always be together

From this day on you'll never walk alone

You're a part of me, I'm a part of you

Wherever we may travel

Whatever we go through

Whatever time may take away

It cannot change the way we feel today

So hold me close and say you feel it too

You're a part of me and I'm a part of you

I can hear it when I stand beside the river

I can see it when I look up in the sky

I can feel it when I hear that lonesome highway

So many miles to go before I die

We can never know about tomorrow

But still we have to choose which way to go

You and I are standing at the crossroads

Darling, there is one thing you should know

You're a part of me, I'm a part of you

Wherever we may travel

Whatever we go through

Whatever time may take away

It cannot change the way we feel today

So hold me close and say you feel it too

You're a part of me and I'm a part of you

I look at you your whole life stands before you

I look at me and I'm running out of time

Time has brought us here to share these moments

To look for something we may never find

Until we find the bridge across forever

Until this grand illusion brings us home

You and I will always be together

From this day on you'll never walk alone

You're a part of me, I'm a part of you

Wherever we may travel

Whatever we go through

Whatever time may take away

It cannot change the way we feel today

So hold me close and say you feel it too

You're a part of me and I'm a part of you

part of you, part of me, part of you

part of me, part of you

This thread is as good as any to ask I guess (I hope). Why do so many people go out of their way to express how much they "hate" the Eagles? It was even a joke in the Big Lebowski. I wouldn't list them as one of my favorite acts but have always enjoyed them and they left a lot of really good music behind. The whole phenomenon seems so odd and it's almost like its some "music cred" thing to hate on that band.

R.I.P Glenn. Thanks for the music.
I think it has something to do with the fact that their music sometimes sounds simple, like anyone could do it. The stupider/less musically educated the listener, the more likely this conclusion. When in fact harmonizing as well as Henley and Frey did is incredibly rare, Henley is a ridiculously talented (and underrated) drummer, much of the guitar and bass playing was quite complex, and their songwriting was masterclass-level.
Don't think it has anything to do with it's simplicity, but a lot to do with sterility. Even when they go for something swinging, it's stiff as a board. Plus anybody in the tank for Gram Parsons, Hillman, Clark, Clarence White, etc is likely going to find the Eagles way over-overpolished. Beyond that, I just don't like the songs. The Lebowski thing was just a rallying point for everybody who felt similarly having that sentiment pop up so randomly and hilariously.
Enh. They were "overpolished" because they were ridiculously good.
This. Randy was incredible on "Try and Love Again" and nobody ever gives him credit. Everyone in that band was too shelf. I saw them twice at Great Woods (and Henley's Walden Woods show) back when Helz froze over and they were really good.I always loved New Kid in Town.

I wondered if Randy Meisner and Don Felder (especially Felder) would make any comments. I haven't heard anything from Meisner, but Felder opened up in an emotional way. The break with him was not just financial, but deeply personal.

It saddens me a great deal that we were never able to address the issues that came between us and talk them through. Sadly now we will never get the chance.

Watched the history of the Eagles again last night. So sad. The reason that documentary works so well is that they were so open, and most of the band were complete #####. But damn it if it's not compelling as hell.

It was sad to see him, I guess within the past two years, talking about the band. And then you see young, piss and vinegar Frey and that drive, ambition and will to push that band to where they got to.

Nice moment toward the end though, I think it was their photographer said, don't be sad its over, its cool it ever happened at all.

The colitis and pneumonia were side effects from all the meds, he told TheWrap. He died from complications of ulcer and colitis after being treated with drugs for his rheumatoid arthritis which he had for over 15 years.
yepper. told ya. RA biologics are horrible.
The % of people that experience those negative side effects are very small. Also, it's very likely that Frey wouldn't have been able to continue playing the guitar without the medication.ETA: it's just speculation from Glenn's manager that the medication caused him to catch pneumonia.
