Club volleyball season has kicked off and wouldn't you know it, first tournament is this weekend which means I get to "watch" the RedZone Channel on my phone while sitting in some gym on Sunday morning. First weekend of fantasy football playoffs. :oldunsure:
Ya know, if your wife would’ve opened a book…you wouldn’t be in this predicament 😉

Met my dad at TMobile today to get him a new phone because he wasn't getting some of this texts and the phone was acting "slow".

Kid at TMobile looked at his phone for about seconds and said "this things got 3-4 years left easily, let me show you some issues" and proceeded to "fix" all the user errors created by my dad. Damndest thing. Kid had a layup sale and opted to fix any issues and reassure my dad everything was fine. Crazy. He's getting a nice review on teh Googles from me.

To celebrate, we walked next door to Famous Dave's. Folks, I'm not sure how long it's been since you ate at one of these but DON'T. I had a burger that tasted like burning and their fries are a crime against humanity. I hadn't been to Famous Daves in probably 10 years and it was bad then. It is worse now. I can't believe this place has survived it is egregiously bad.

Crosses Famous Dave’s off list of meeting places

Whenever the hell it opened I thought it was pretty good, but I was probably like late teens or early 20s and thought Applebees and Olive Garden were good eating
Then I became a bbq snob and wouldn’t go there, but ended up getting invited by my in laws or something. I came to the conclusion that the one by me isn’t terrible, I rarely eat there, but I deem it acceptable

Also who the hell gets a burger from a bbq joint?
Agree fries are weak though, like a crinkle wedge IIRC?

1. Yay dad
2. A burger? Really? There? Bet it was no Skatteburger
3. Agreed. Horrible place these days. Daughter wanted to meet there a few months ago. Best part was the corn muffin and the tea.
4. I blame Mrs. Boyle

I got the burger because I know how bad their other offerings are and thought "how can you F up a burger?"

Challenge accepted, said Dave.

My dad got brisket and ribs and was equally disgusted.

Meet at Bad Brad's? Slightly less awful BBQ?

Maybe leave the BBQ to Texas and the deep south. It just can't be done north of the Mason Dixon Line. Fight me.

It was the Skatteburger talk that got my wheels spinning so went with their "Devil's Spit" burger. More like Devil's Taint Sweat.

Tea? Really Bobby Volstadt?

Bad brads is pretty good, just don’t get the brisket dip or whatever it was
pretty disappointing it was like $25 for a sandwich and fries

Text me what days you’ll be in town I’ll see if I can make something work

I've been meaning to try BWW's burgers, too, because I've also heard they're pretty good. But every time I go there's just no way I can't get their Garlic Parm wings. They have the best Garlic Parm sauce out of any wing chain I've been to. Wingstop's are disgusting... just doused in garlic butter and powdered Parmesan cheese. BWW's are an actual sauce.

Me too. But I usually just drink.

Their dry rub wings and fries are solid.

Asian Zing and Caribbean jerk sauces are some of the best in the biz. IMO. I just use them for dipping dry rub wings. $$$$

I always get the Spicy Garlic wings. Buy bottles of that sauce and dip fries, chips, cauliflower, everything in it.

Thai Curry is their best sauce

daves, brads, bww... do not know these things.

17yo HS senior Floppinho is continuing his driving training with an instructor he absolutely loves because she swears with the ragiest of road rage at everybody, including hilariously poor taste insults across the spectrum of race and gender. still mind bottling to me that my kid is learning on the streets of manhattan- a place most shouldn't ever attempt to drive.

the teacher told him recently "you should practice more between lessons", which is obviously code for "I'm taking my life into my hands every time you get behind the wheel". Practice? I don't own a car. I've taken my kid driving twice in rentals down in MD. she's thinking we're the Hamptons crowd from his private school that gets the luxury car for the bday before thye have a license and have been driving with their parents on those hoity hamptons roads since they were 13. when floppinho told us about that comment, he said he can't even imagine when he'd ever drive anyways... ah, city kids.

Having grown up in the middle of corn and horseradish fields in one of those flyover states, and having been behind the wheel of a car long before 16, city kids completely shuke me. Cars represented freedom. I guess when you have an entire train system at your fingertips, maybe less necessary.

I also have to wonder what it costs to insure a teen driver in NYC vs a teen in Shelbyville, IL.

My oldest is graduating college soon. As a graduation gift*, I'm letting him purchase his own auto insurance!

Astronomical, I'm sure. It ain't cheap here. I just can't relate to thinking, as a teenager, "I can't imagine when I'd ever drive." Getting a driver's license was more important than getting a high school diploma.

Oh, no question! I got mine the day I turned 16 in an ice storm in Dallas using a 5-speed manual 1980 Chevy Citation. Talk about pressure. Other than paralell (sp?) parking, I aced it. Next day, went out and got a haircut by myself and I felt like a MAN!

Also, if he's still living with you, I'd look into whether it's considerably cheaper to keep him on your insurance and make him reimburse you. If he's moving out, it's prob not a choice.

Club volleyball season has kicked off and wouldn't you know it, first tournament is this weekend which means I get to "watch" the RedZone Channel on my phone while sitting in some gym on Sunday morning. First weekend of fantasy football playoffs. :oldunsure:
Ugh. Around here the school systems would try to save money by not running heat on weekends, so not only did you get to sit in a lawn chair in a gym all day, but you froze the whole time. And no food or drinks. So great to pay for such a fun experience. Plus metal roofs so no reception unless they had good wifi.

Our tournament this weekend is at a high-falootin' club's gym in coastal Orange County, CA with $20 parking and expensive food. We are going to make some ham sandwiches and bring a few bags of chips for lunch. But gosh if the cell services sucks I will be livid.

My 15 yr old got 40 minutes each way of driving last night on the way to and back from his brother's basketball game. Was even eating while doing it. He has spent considerable time at the family's farm. The first month of on road driving with other traffic was a big learning curve compared to the ATV or tractor in an open field though.

$20 parking for club volleyball? Incredible, but not surprising.

Roverkid had her first interview for a paid internship today. Sounds like she did pretty well, other than misunderstanding the organization she was working for (International Emmys as opposed to the Emmys). She interviewed over zoom with 5 people--one was the president of the organization.

just doused in garlic butter and powdered Parmesan chees

Oh my. I love those at Wing Stop. Okay, they tried to sell us chicken thighs during the pandemic. Bad move. I remember it. But garlic parmesan wings from Wing Stop are so damn good. I love the cheese. I just got fatter thinking about them.

Yeah I think this is commonplace for most club sports. Whatever venue they play at likely gets most of the cut, minus whatever they have to pay for some schlub to stand there and collect your $20 bill upon entry. Plus, I'm fairly certain there are no "ins-and-outs", meaning we couldn't leave during the 2-hour break we get mid-day for lunch somewhere. Looks like there are some restaurants within walking distance this time, but we may just pack lunches and plenty of snackage.

Is this the thread for gift ideas for spouses?

Know what my wife and I got each other this year? Huh?

ROUND TRIP TICKETS TO DETROIT IN LATE DECEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second place was TWO round trip tickets to Detroit in December.
I'm going to the Maldives for Christmas. I'm sure Detroit is nice, too.
Wasn't sure if you were serious or just rubbing it in.

If so, when and where are you going? We went for our honeymoon and it was insanely amazing.

Never been...but this is BWW for me. I'll never step foot in one again.
I like the concept of BWW. I am typically ok when i get their wings. Really hit and miss when i try their other items.

favorite flavors:
jerk
garlic parm
asian zing
dry chipotle bbq
... and i check out their new flavors: orange chicken seems to have made itself a regular
current promos are maple chipotle and cajun... i'd give those a chance

I have never paid for parking at a softball event. That's crazy. And you can't leave and come back? That's ridiculous

Agreed. Paying for parking for youth sports is insanity. Not being able to come and go would be a major problem for me. This isn't the Rose Bowl. Come on.....
I take that back. Parking at this particular event is free, but they are charging $20 to get in. I'm hoping that's per family, otherwise I'm gonna lose my sh*t.

I'm a BWW regular as there's one next to my office and my house and for me, I'm just looking for a bar with good beers and friendly faces - a place I can go between work and home and read my articles that I print out each week. I rarely order food, but I get to accumulate points drinking beer and every now and again, I'll fire off some points for their dry rub wings, especially if I'm with a friend. Otherwise, I think their wings are way too expensive - they always raise prices due to chicken costs or fuel costs but when those costs come down, they never lower their wing prices.

Fries are solid. Give 'em that.
