GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (9 Viewers)

Saw Beastie Boys and Tribe Called Quest. I know this is probably blasphemy, but....'meh'.
weirdI thought both were great.
There was just no flow....as soon as I would get into a song, they'd launch into something else. Sound system was bad and they didn't once say "HELLO PORTLAND!". How very Pixies of them.
That's not hackneyed?
:lmao:

I hate you

Gish is a very good record, IMO. Radio nor MTV beat us over the heads with it. Debut album. Worth a spin 25 years later.

My FIL got me into Leon Russell during his two week stay. Love it. Also, Marshall Tucker Band deeper tracks have been worth my time, another FIL favorite.

Seriously - is it a moment-in-time thing? I can't understand it. SP are objectively awful. I love Grand Funk and know they suck. Is it like that?
I think their very first album was excellent. I believe it was produced by Butch Vig and it sounded nothing like all their later stuff, which I didn't like.

I simply stated that they had a run of three albums in the 90's that were pretty good, a better trio than most all of their peers in the grunge/alt scene.

But yes they are terrible live.
You said it might be the best run of three albums in history.

Sorry to hear about the non-compete. Seems like your new employer will be willing to fight for you, so all will probably be well.

1. Well then that would be the first Time anyone ever was wrong in here. 2. New employer has a large legal team and is indeed supporting me.

Good lord. No, BAbe, just no.

worst concert i ever saw, unfortunately multiple times, was Smashing Pumpkins. I don't think you could intentionally sound that awful.

although one time I went to see Janes Addiction here in Portland and the warm up act was some fat chick from texas with a 4 man band backing her up and i'm guessing she played for about 40 mins. the last 2-3 songs people were booing her. when she finally finished she yells "#### you Portland" and walks off the stage to thunderous applause.
saw SP once, awful

I didn't "get" most of the 90s bands, but Smashing Pumpkins especially mystified me with their popularity. Can someone explain to me why they were so important?
Couldn't stand them. IIRC BAbe considers them one of the best bands ever, so maybe he can explain.
To be fair, BAbe also thinks Cool Runnings should have won Best Picture that year.

I actually enjoyed that movie a great deal. I loved the part where they picked up the bobsled and carried it across the finish line. That really happened!

I should probably have held back a little bit on the morning beer drinking at Yuke's birthday party. On the other hand, the water slide was a lot of fun.

Day drinking is the best. Today I ran about 4 miles to my parents house and had a couple rums with my dad before he shocked the pool.

Babe likes unheralded movies, so what. We have tanner on the other end who hates any movie that's nominated for Academy Awards.

Gish is still a great album, just rocks all the way through. then they became a total MTV studio band and their albums were highly produced compared to Gish. Gish is the only SP album i've kept, give it a spin about once a year, still jams pretty hard.

best bands i've seen live are Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Ministry, Red Hots and Alice in Chains, all of them could play, had real talent and entertained.

One of the bands I didn't expect to be good, but was, is Cage the Elephant. Saw them open for STP in 2010 at Northerly Island in Chicago. Awesome show. Tons of energy. I was pretty drunk too.

crazy day here in my little town. after a summer of record highs and mild weather, summer came crashing to an end with a crazy storm, 60-mile an hour gusts, and sideways rain. Two fatalities today just in my town from trees falling on cars. widespread power outages.

To be fair, the bolded describes your social life in any weather.

:( Sorry to hear about the fatalities. Mr krista went out for a haircut just before things went south, and I wished he hadn't. Did make it home alive, though. After about an hour without power I called the PUD, and they basically laughed at me.

This is a scary time to have a house made primarily of windows, but the cats are finding it fascinating.

Seattlehole 2015 so far looks like:

Roverfish

Krista and Mr. Krista

Redmond Longhorn

Proninja

Britney Spears

Maybe:

Drifter

Uruk-Hai
