fast forward to 2020 when every show is zombie/vampire/ER related.

was thinking of a planet of the apes type show where astronauts land on a planet of zombies and most of the show is set in a hospital on this planet where the zombies are physicians and try to save non walkers.
There's a Twilight Zone similar to this premise.

So, having never seen the show nor any promos for it nor any printed material, here's my understanding of "The Walking Dead".

There's zombies. They are chasing non-zombies, only they don't move very fast. All they really want to do is eat the non-zombies. I am not sure if eating a non-zombie creates a new zombie, so this part confuses me. Like, I know a vampire kills a non vampire and sometimes they become vampires. Is that the case here? Also, I think there are motor cycle gangs, but that might be Sons of Anarchy. I also think this show takes place in Youngstown, OH.
Well they needed a post-apocalyptic hellscape and Detroit was too big, where else are they gonna go?
I think we all know you go to Gary, IN.
Gary, Indiana?
It's the Bakersfield of Indiana

GPC, thanks again for posting this link a couple of years ago. Once again the most bet team, 90% money, didn't cover. Why is it though that the line doesn't move dramatically when they bets are so one sided? I had a heard a few years ago that the sharps put out lines to try and get it overweighted on one team when they like the other but not sure how accurate that is.

Not Louisiana, Paris, France, New York, or Rome?

The bookmakers are pretty smart, and their initial line is (typically, I think) pretty good. They won't really move the line based on who Joe Shmoes bet on (I think the Super Bowl is an exception), but when a sharp syndicate or bettor bets it can move lines.

I have heard that Billy Walters, the most infamous NFL bettor in Vegas, bets the "wrong" side of games to get a better line (for a bigger bet) the other way.

Thanks. Yeah that's what I have been doing when I bet which is pretty infrequently these days.

Is that some dumb monster show?

Yeah, I think if you want to bet NFL sides and you're not a super-smart math dork, it's probably the best way to go about it.

I cleared out my work email today. Completely empty. I'm pretty sure I should have kept a lot of them but damn it feels good to a clean inbox.

I've tried getting to an empty inbox but just can't maintain it. I don't like to delete anything that isn't obvious junk and filing 150 emails a day is almost as tedious as setting a lineup once a week.

I do, however, almost always keep zero unread messages.

I'm feeling sort of guilty.

My grandfather's wife died this morning. She was 93(?) and married to my grandpa for 18 years, but I didn't know her that well. She was fine to me, but was pretty awful to my mom for reasons no one has ever understood. A bunch of other weird stuff happened like they have been supporting her 50-something-year-old son and let him live with them for years, which has been very hard on my grandpa. So all in all I don't have a highly positive view of her, but she's never been anything but fine to me.

Anyway, the visitation is Thursday and funeral is Friday, which is exactly the dates I am in SF for work and then an extra day for fun on Friday night/Saturday morning. We're coming back Saturday, and I've booked us to fly out to visit on Sunday for a couple of days (this is across the country from me) just to support my grandfather.

I keep thinking of that "you go to the funeral" ####, though, and feel like I should be canceling the work trip despite it being not good from a work POV and also losing me a bit of money to change flights, cancel non-refundable hotels, etc. Obviously if it were my grandpa I'd do it anyway. Hard to do for a woman I didn't know well and who wasn't too kind to much of my family, but still I'm feeling bad.

WWGMTAND?

What's Grandpa say? If he says "it's okay" then it's okay. In my book anyway.

Hope that doesn't come off as me being a giant a$$. I get the "you go to the funeral" @#$!....to a degree. In general, they idea of them is pretty morbid. You hang around staring at a corpse. Much bigger fan of wakes. I want to be cremated, mixed with the ashes of my wife/dog if they went first and then fired out of a cannon. Screw having everyone stand around ogling my husk(although, who could blame anyone? I'm sort of hot and grow hotter with every single year).

If Grandpa is truly okay with you missing it, then it really boils down to how you'll feel in a year if you don't go. If the answer is "sort of ####ty" then you go anyway.

I would give advice but Saturday night, after my mom's 80th birthday party, I made my sister so mad #### lost her #### and became semi physical. But it was worth it/long time coming.

this. if grandpa is ok with it, he's the only one that matters, other than you. those are the only 2 voices that matter.

Grandpa asked immediately if I could come, but when told I couldn't was understanding about that, but then perked up a lot when hearing that I would come later. My mom is an only child, and my only sibling is a ####, so I'm kind of all he has in terms of grandchildren who are good to him. When he said he understood I know he did logically (despite being 95, he's sharp as a tack), but I'm not sure that's enough.

####.

I actually try to picture the visitation and funeral and whether my presence makes a difference. And not to be too personal or morbid, but my grandmother - to whom he was married 50 years - died tragically (suicide) and he was understandably devastated. He has been married to this woman for 18 years, so it's not like it's a new relationship, but I don't get the feeling he liked her much over the last many years, and she was old and had had health problems, though she actually died from being hit by a car a few weeks ago. I'm just saying it's a lot less emotional, sudden, and sad for him. He seems very much at peace with it and in fact was making some "end of life" decisions that were pretty extreme and difficult such as deciding to stop giving her fluids and nutrition. So, though I know this is some justification I'm giving for not going, it is not nearly so devastating.

Still, burying your wife for a second time ain't easy. On the plus side, my mom - who has become a saint in recent weeks - is going to spend 10 days there.

I'm so sorry. Family can be such a #####.
Damn. I shouldn't have posted that because

1 it is ambiguously coy

2 It detracted attention from your legit and difficult situation

Please ignore.

:lmao: Too late! I don't mind the latter, and I don't think it was so bad on the former.

Blech. Gonna go sleep on it. I really appreciate the good advice in here from you guys. Actually made the reservations earlier today to go out there Sunday but am considering a change. Oh, one other fun fact: it's apparently Breeders Cup in Louisville this week and there's nowhere to stay! My family is already full up now, but I suppose I could find a friend's couch...

I believe Breeders is actually in Lexington @ Keenland, but Louisville is close enough to explain lack of available hotels.

Condolences

Aha. Yes, Lexington is not only close but tiny and probably doesn't have great hotel options.

If you guys need a "faith in humanity" story, by the way: my mom and stepfather couldn't find a hotel within 100 miles for their first three nights there and now are staying with... My stepmother's sister and family. Yes, my mom, who was divorced from my dad when I was five, is being welcomed by the sister of the woman my dad married a year later. They might have met twice at most. Such an incredibly generous gesture.

Thanks again for the advice. Going to sleep on it and have a heart-to-heart with my mom tomorrow. She might need me there too. Right now all the burden is on her to take care of gramps.

You're worse than a 30-something divorcee and a heartbroken teenager. Combined.

Krista, do you want to see your whole family or just be there for your gramps? Sounds like you don't want to see everyone but feel obligated.

I'm going the other way from tonight's advice...unless you want to see everyone, then don't go. Make some excuse about planes blowing up on the west coast and Obama and ####, but book a flight back to Louisville in a week or two and spend some good solid time with your grandpa. One on one rather than just another person in his face during his worst week ever.

Not to sound harsh, but as an honorary crusty old ******* I think I might be right. Your family might think less of you, but gramps will totally dig it.

View: Rick and Morty is as good as Archer.
Yeah?

The guy that did Community is in charge of that, I think...Dan Harmon? I was gonna check it out just based on that.

But better than Archer? That's a bold statement.
Maybe not better, but it's right there. Harmon co-writes and co-produces with another dude, Justin Roiland, who does the voices of the titular characters.

I would imagine that both shows share a lot of fans. I tried to watch Uncle Grandpa because it was a funny name that both amused and angered my child, but it was too far out there for my liking.

Uncle Grandpa is awful. The kids like it but it seems like anytime I've turned it on its just Uncle Grandpa yelling DEEEERRRRRRRRPPPPPPP!

I won't let them watch it. There's a few really weird kids shows

Clarence

Steven Universe

Gumball

The only other family member who lives in the area is my dickmitten brother, so I'm going only for my grandfather.

I appreciate the crusty old ******* perspective. ;) Thanks.
