GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (8 Viewers)

Night skiing is fun, averaging about 50 MPH down this mtn. Some kids passed me so I caught them and passed em at the bottom, they seemed surprised an old fat guy could move like a cobra.

Anyone have experience with the Jeep Rubicon? I know there's a jeep thread here, but it scares me.

What I know so far about the Rubicon: it is pleasingly composed of rectangles and has big tires.

Christmas Vacation starts riiiiiiiiiiiight now!
Mine too. Then I get to fire three people when I get back.
This happened today. Brutal. :(
It sucks. I only had one instance where I was all prepped to revel in the joy of doing it. My VP sensed that and wisely removed me from the situation and took care of the formalities. He probably saved my ### by doing so.
I fired someone for the first time when I was 29. I almost started crying. Now I'm 38 and have grown to realize it's part of the job.

Rubicon is a trim/equipment package available for the Jeep Wrangler 2 door or 4 door (Unlimited). It is the most off road ready of all the Wrangler variants.

seems like a quality vehicle for moving from one house to another multiple times in a given year.

I mentioned in the Playboy thread that a girl from HS ended up as a playmate, my senior year. In the same issue were photos of Vanna... IIRC, she has both Ts and A.
Who was your classmate?
Older sister of a classmate
I'll have to look her up when I get home.
Anna Clark. Definitely remember her.

Thx. But, is it a decent car? I don't know anything about Wranglers, really.

Well, the wrangler is a lot like a rubicon with a different trim package.

Ah... :lmao:

I'm pretty car stupid, but I own an '08 Wrangler and love it for what it is. It's simple. Get the top and doors off and enjoy a summer day drive. Nothing I'd rather do it in. I also know 3 people with 4 door Rubs and one guy with a 2 door one. One of the guys with the 4 door is on his second one, he loves the thing. Of course he uses it for what it's meant for and does 2-3 off road trips per year.

I never hear a complaint from any of them about their Jeep.

According to every review you will find from non-enthusiasts it is a terrible vehicle. They fail every standard car rating metric. They don't ride as well as other vehicles. Their fuel economy is worse. They may not be as reliable. Crash test results are suspect. They offer limited modern conveniences or comforts. Although I hear you might be able to get a factory back up camera this year.

However, most owners are fanatical about them.

I think its because they are highly configurable to individual tastes and are more flexible and capable off road from the factory than any other vehicle. And you get to be part of the secret club. And the history.

We've had our latest one for about 6 months and its been great. I hated the concept of the 4 doors when they came out but it really has turned the Wrangler into a useful every day vehicle that is also a great toy. But it is a terrible vehicle by modern standards.

Ordered a Zippo Hand Warmer and kind of excited to get it. Seems pretty cool. Dump some lighter fluid in it, light it and it heats up to about 110 degrees using a catalytic reaction. So you can just stick it in its pouch and hold it or put it in a pocket with no worry about flames, etc.

Of course, I would have no use for such things ify wife would just give in and agree to move to California.

Just started Making a Murderer. 4 episodes in. Feel very stabby. Also small town upper Midwest, yeah, I grew up with some hayseeds like that.

Well, had about 3 weeks of things going well. MIL is at the ER after seeing flashing lights in her eyes (same person that had a disabling stroke and had to live with us for 18 months previously).

Also found out this morning that a childhood friend's 13 year old daughter is undergoing a brain biopsy this morning where the doctors expect to confirm a terminal inoperable brain tumor.

K4, Eom, Frosty - first of all, how are you? congrats and welcome to homebrewing.

Second, do yourselves a favor and try to keep the beer as cool as is practical during fermentation. High 60s-low 70s is fine, but much above that you start getting some headache-inducing byproducts. I'm assuming you don't have a temp-controlled fermenter at this point, so a couple of ways to do this are:

(1) find the coolest spot in your house, like a closet or a room where you can shut heating vents (check local listings)

(b) keep a damp t-shirt or towel wrapped around the fermenter for some evaporative cooling (which is also the name of my Marvin Gaye tribute band).
 Thanks. Ours is in a 64-degree spot right now; hoping that will be good.

Uruk, I have no idea the answer to your question. I'm staying out of it as much as possible, including w/r/t the drinking of it.
I'm in FL and don't really have a super cool spot aside from our normal, AC houe house (no basement).

I guess the refrigerator would be too cold?

What temp do you keep the house at?

You can make up a swamp cooler. Basically a tub of water with an aquarium heater/cooler dropped in it.

Or, if you have an unused fridge or freezer or a huge container you could use that provided you have temperature control.

The "swamp cooler" goes along with my "damp t-shirt" suggestion. Here's an example I just found on the googles

The shirt acts as a wick, drawing up water from the cooler, and evaporating, which carries away some heat from the fermenter. You could also rotate freezer packs into the water to help pull heat away.

At my last job the head of the labor & employment legal group had to fire 15 people one day. When he was done, the SVP of HR then fired him.

This. Awful news all around, but any time a kid's involved, that only compounds it
