GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (21 Viewers)

Is "bueno" a good witch, or a bad witch?  He's apparently been absent from this board for close to a decade and just showed up in the Hillary Clinton thread.
friends with that Senator that got nabbed trying to pick up gay men in a bathroom by tapping his foot or whatever it was

vehemently denied the guy was gay because they're friends and he knows the guy's wife

also, ultra conservative

that's about what i remember

Failed drink recipie

1 shot gin

1/2 shot Pimms

1/2 shot limoncello

1 tsp county time lemonade mix

splash club soda

i still drank it and wife didn't like so I have to drink hers now too

Really don't have anything to contribute other than I went on my annual drinking trip last week and got extra stupid drunk while managing to lose north of a grand in poker.

Both boys made honor roll all four quarters this year.

Cal finished his first year of middle school with a 3.8 gpa.  We had his annual med check today after turning 12 a couple weeks ago.  He clocked in at 5'3, 133 pounds. He needs to lose some weight.  Since he's doing so well in school the doc and us agreed to ween him off one of meds that also causes weight gain.  He's freaking out about it and we are too a little.

3.8 is outstanding.  Sure he's yours?

Henry Ford, you're a cruiser, right?  We're heading out on our first cruise Sunday.  Not something I thought I'd ever do, but now I'm pretty excited about it.  Heading to Alaska. Any tips appreciated.

So proud of him.  Particularly since he was bullied all year.

If he didn't look exactly like me I would have my doubts.  He told the doc school was easy.
Bullied you say? Did you teach him to sweep the leg and go for the arm bar choke out?

In seriousness, how as a parent do you handle that? My boy is just turned 10

Alaska is the best cruise that exists.

If you get seasick, or might, go to a doctor and get the patch thing you can put behind your ear.  It's effective in the roughest of seas.  And Alaska can get rough (Bering Sea.)

If there's nothing you want to do on a port day, stay on the ship.  It's empty, you get to be wherever you want and do what you want, and it's calm.

What cruise line, what ports, and what kind of stateroom do you have?

We tried the route of this generation of talking to counselors, teachers, etc. but nothing changed and this bull#### went on all year.   I finally told him to go ahead and punch one of the boys in the head and I wouldn't punish him.  So a couple of weeks ago he made a stabbing motion with his pen while telling the main bully he was going to stab him after bully threw gum at him.   Got two days in school suspension.  See, he is my kid.

Gal I work with just took an Alaska cruise last week.  I'll ask what her favorite activities were.

I really thought cruiser meant something else entirely. Al Pacino even made a film about it.

I got bonine plus the wrist bands, just in case.  I've never had issues with seasickness but want to be safe - also we're taking my mom and stepfather so I got a lot of that just in case anyone has issues.  To answer your questions:

HAL

Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway.  We're also doing a few days in Denali after the cruise.

Stateroom:  Pinnacle Suite - it's about the size of the house we had in Seattle. :bag:   We're on the port side and my mom and stepfather are on the starboard side in a Neptune Suite.

Iggy, would love any advice your friend has.  We're scheduled for a bunch of stuff including taking a helicopter to Mendenhall Glacier and then ice trekking on it   but it's all flexible and I'm open to changes.  Especially in Skagway we have a long port day and I've only scheduled about three hours of it - getting out of there and hiking somewhere would be nice.  Oh, and if she has any favorite places that she ate I'd love to know about those.

Aaron, I totally forgot about that movie and term. :lmao:

Some good news (which we can all use)...

This guy that I've been teaching with (same subject) for the last 20 years is finally retiring.  He's a moody motherjumper.  On his good days he's a decent guy.  But when he's in one of his moods his a caustic pain in the ###.  I learned a long time ago to ignore him.  But the last couple of years I've been hoping he'd hang it up.  Basically I've been tolerating him just because he's not worth letting him get to you.

I'm really not going to miss him.

Found out today that they hired his replacement.  It's one of my oldest friends [insert your own old joke here].  We went to school together K-12 which doesn't seem that odd but we went to public k-8 and then private HS.   My wife and I hang out with him and his wife every couple of months or so.   He'll be teaching right next door.   I've never really had a "drinking buddy" at work.  Should be nice.

The wrist bands are not so helpful.  If you can get the behind the ear patch this late, it's a huge difference.

It'll probably be an older ship, one with the great library and an old chess board.

Whale watching when you're bored - virtually guaranteed to see something.

I've done that cruise with HAL.  Beautiful.  Great food.  Get some salmon while you're in Alaska - including smoked.

If you have the option to go on a glacier, go on a glacier.

And see the northern lights.

Oh, and I like your idea about just staying on the ship - maybe we'll do that in Skagway with our extra time.  I had a much longer excursion booked that day and then felt like we were over-planned.  Enjoying a quiet ship in some beautiful locale sounds pretty nice.

Shot video with the two of you between periods.

Banshee series finale that I watched last night wasn't that bad.  Show is more in the Jusitified / SOA band than Breaking Bad / sopranos but it is definitely good if you like violence and boobs.

@bentley - we are having lunch a week from today.

She said that the buffet with the all-you-can-eat shrimp is "the best thing ever," but they try to trick you by putting the breads and pasta salads first.
