New professional skill developed over the first 50,000 miles of the year: not paying for my drinks on planes. I have paid for one drink in the last month (approx 10 flights).  Here are some tips:

- warmly greet each attendant you see as you board. Don't just say "hello" but rather something memorable.

- when the cart comes by ask "where are you headed today". They will answer with some city or "this is the last leg". Then they will ask you where you are going...

- morning flight: "my boss called me into headquarters then I'm catching the redeye back home. Long day...ill have a Bloody Mary"

- day flight: "just left a meeting with my boss and he added a dinner meeting in (insert destination) to my schedule before the redeye home.  long day. I'll have a (whatever drink)"

- night flight: "just left the office after meeting my boss all day...long day, I'm ready to get home.  I'll have a (whatever drink)"

ive become so proficient at this tactic that I'm now having ample success ordering doubles and not paying for them.  :bow tie:. We all have our skills.

You can also hide alcohol in the ceiling tiles at work and drink mouthwash with alcohol in it so you don't smell like booze.

Real tips:

Helicopter tour and walking on the glaciers was AWESOME.  Try to schedule afternoon trip because mornings can be foggy.  Bring a jacket and some rain protection.

Tours are cheaper if you book off-ship.

In Skagway rent a car (Avis is the only game in town) and drive up to Emerald Lake.   The tour bus is filled with people Tanner's age so the bathroom stops will take forever.  There's no GPS but you can download a map called "Murray's Guide".  Don't worry, there's only one major road so you can't get lost.

In Ketchikan there's a cool back-country boat tour where you can see a bunch of eagles (bring binoculars).

Thanks very much!!

The wrist bands are not so helpful.  If you can get the behind the ear patch this late, it's a huge difference.

It'll probably be an older ship, one with the great library and an old chess board.

Whale watching when you're bored - virtually guaranteed to see something.

I've done that cruise with HAL.  Beautiful.  Great food.  Get some salmon while you're in Alaska - including smoked.

If you have the option to go on a glacier, go on a glacier.

And see the northern lights.
We'll be on the Noordam.  It was christened in 2006 and is the newest of the four Vista class ships, but HAL has three newer (larger) ships now, too.

Assuming you did exactly the same itinerary that included Glacier Bay...what is the best strategy for that day?  Do you move around the ship a lot or stay in one place?  Anyplace in particular that is best to go when the park rangers are on the ship?

I got bonine plus the wrist bands, just in case.  I've never had issues with seasickness but want to be safe - also we're taking my mom and stepfather so I got a lot of that just in case anyone has issues.  To answer your questions:

HAL

Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway.  We're also doing a few days in Denali after the cruise.

Stateroom:  Pinnacle Suite - it's about the size of the house we had in Seattle. :bag:   We're on the port side and my mom and stepfather are on the starboard side in a Neptune Suite.

Iggy, would love any advice your friend has.  We're scheduled for a bunch of stuff including taking a helicopter to Mendenhall Glacier and then ice trekking on it   but it's all flexible and I'm open to changes.  Especially in Skagway we have a long port day and I've only scheduled about three hours of it - getting out of there and hiking somewhere would be nice.  Oh, and if she has any favorite places that she ate I'd love to know about those.

Aaron, I totally forgot about that movie and term. :lmao:
If you want, I can lend you one of the twins to cart around on the cruise.  That's how I spent my Alaskan cruise.

Cons - didn't get to do too many excursions and got funny looks at the Black Jack table with a baby in a bjorn.
Pros - The good looking Eastern European women who work the boat would come up and pet Kellen's head, giving me a nice view into their cleavage.

I bought my wife a seat cushion for driving a couple years ago.  Helps with her hip problems.  She uses it every day,  she texted me today asking where I got it because hers was getting flat.  I texted her a picture of a salad.

How long has it been since you sent the pic? Have you gotten a response? Have you ever been divorced?

I do.  In fact, I have to vacate my office today for three hours so they can replace my ceiling tiles.

I don't know why it takes three hours.
hazmat needs to remove all of the ####-stained underwear.

What is it about women that makes then incapable to managing time?
If my wife and I agree to meet at Point-A at 5PM, and it take 30 minutes to drive from her work to Point-A, a reasonable adult should be able to plan to leave work at 4:30PM to arrive at the meeting place on time. But no. I get a text from her at 5:05PM telling me what she'll be leaving her office in 5 minutes. :wall:   :wall: :wall:
I'm not saying that agree with men that murder their wives. But I understand.

And I'd bet $100 dollars that she's late in part because she has unlimited lives in Candy Crush.

I'm not saying that I'm attracted to men. But I can see the appeal.

I tell her we need to leave at 9:20 knowing we won't leave till 9:30. No way in hell I'd be dumb enough to just tell her whe we are supposed to arrive anywhere.

Just go ahead without her. Eventually she'll figure it out. If she freaks, tell her to #### off
