Far be it from me to speak for the GMTAN Council Of Elders, but can we chill a bit on the political/current-awful-events/tragedy stuff here? This thread is one of the few safe houses I have around these parts. I'm bombarded with that crap everywhere else and sometimes just want a place to talk about dumb ####. I'll defer to my betters, but my couple of pence.

Car's worth about $12k.  Stupid insurance company negotiated the $7800 repair estimate down to $6200, so they're going to fix it rather than total it. I mean, the car's paid off, and I had no intention of getting a new one.  But why do I feel like I'm somehow getting screwed here?

Fight it. Get more estimates or make the adjuster come and make sure there is no frame/unibody damage. Buddy up to the adjuster nas much as you can.

Similar happened to me and I went that route, they found a little wrinkle in the unibody and I got a total. You definintely want a total.

ETA - I met the adjuster there and told him, "this is really close to a total. I want you to look closely, because if its not fixed all the way the first time and I have to bring it back, then you spend the extra money and I get screwed out of the total I deserved in the first place."

Does anyone have any use for a like-new 27" Apple Thunderbolt display?

I'm told it's worth around $500.  I don't use mac stuff.  French whore owed me some money and gave me this instead.  

I'm going to throw it on craigslist, but I thought I'd ask in here first.

Here ya go.  Hopefully GMTAN-worthy.

Mr. krista and I love this local mostly-beer joint that doesn't serve food but encourages you to bring in food from elsewhere and also has a big book of delivery menus for you to use.  Last night we got Thai, and both ordered curries forgetting that the beer joint offers plastic cutlery and napkins but nothing in the way of plates or bowls.  This is what our meals looked like upon arrival.  Partway through we realized we had each taken a different approach to how to eat this.  So, wise denizens of the GMTAN, would you:

1.  Spoon curry into the rice container, then eat out of rice container.

-OR-

B.  Spoon rice into the curry container, then eat out of curry container.

We didn't actually argue about which was correct - I could see reasons for each - but we naturally went in opposite directions.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

True story...

A guy I know was in almost the exact same situation(s).  First adjuster came out to the house and lowballed his truck instead of totaling it.  IIRC the difference was within $1-2K.   Guy made a bunch of phone calls to the insurance company and they agreed to send out another adjuster the next day.

That night guy takes a jack and sticks it in between a couple of pieces of the frame.  He bends it just an inch or two out of whack.

Second adjuster totals it within a minute.

In reality it was more "scoop" than "spoon."  That curry was pretty packed into the plastic - dumping all the rice might have caused overflow and loss of curry. :(

Not really.  I should never have loaned her money in the first place.   She's a trainwreck when it comes to finances, and I helped her pay her rent on her studio one month (she's a photographer) so that she could meet her clients.  In exchange she was going to take some professional shots for my firm website and do some design work.  She never did it, so when we broke up I asked for her to repay the loan since she clearly wasn't going to do the work.  I ended up with this monitor, which is worth just about what she owed me.

 
New chick is still showing no obvious signs of crazy, but it's still early and she'll be gone the rest of summer.   Good chance she lasts through Thanksgiving.
