Leaving the country to head back to Austin. JR got a new 1200 piece Lego set while we were here.

Definitely going to need to pick up some booze on the way home to deal with the afternoon that is ahead of me.

You mean you're out? Ok, who hijacked bentrey's account?

Just back from a fishing trip at the coast.  Last night I cured about 5 lbs of salmon in a mix of brown and white sugar, sea salt and course pepper and today will smoke it on a Traeger in a sweet and savory rub.

[Henry Ford and cosjobs] you did it wrong, but we'll never agree on how [/Henry Ford and cosjobs]

So I got 3 quotes for a new HVAC system:

Company A: $12k-15k

Company B: $7.8k-10k

Company C: $6.5k-7.5k

I'm not sure that I can even begin to understand that kind of spread (other than starting with Company A is a total ripoff who advertises a TON).

Since this in no way can be a euphemism - there's zero black about you, GB - mind sharing the recipe?
Start with zest of a lime or lemon - I prefer a lime

1TBSP brown sugar

2 tsp each: paprika (smoked if you got it), thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, cracked black pepper

1 tsp each: oregano, cumin, kosher salt, Tony's or Old Bay (which I realize is a mixture of things already listed).

1/2 tsp - 1tsp cayenne, depending on heat preference.  I'm using smoked chipotle pepper flakes for a smokey flavor

1/2 tsp nutmeg

Mix and add to your salmon after applying a thin rub of olive oil.

Cook skin side down on a well greased grill over medium heat - 350ish.  Cook 3 minutes, carefully filp for another 3 minutes, flip back again for 3 minutes, take off and rest it a few.

Easily one of the most requested meals for guests and family alike.

What size unit? (snicker) I just had a new 2 ton compressor and air handler put in for $4k (basically everything new but the duct work), but my house is small

We had a huge spread when we got quotes because we had a weird setup with one huge lofted room and a lot of little bedrooms.  Ended up going with a company that installed a large trane air handler and ran ducts instead of a couple different mr slims or 2 smaller air handlers. There were pros and cons to each for us.

Are they using the same layout in each quote?  Same size/make/model air handlers?  Different zones?  Heating and cooling or just cooling?  Ducts or split ductless or ?  Theres a lot of variables that go into a quote.

That said, Company A is probably a ripoff, and company C will probably come in at 7500 or even overrun if the contract allows it.

2.5 ton. I think the two complicating factors are:

1) the home builder was a jackass and put in downflow units. So not a typical unit being installed.

2) I'm lucky enough to live in a state where everything is just freaking expensive.

I'm always wary about going with the low price option, but I'd get a further 10% off that price because my wife was a teacher. Throw in a $500 rebate from my gas company for the furnace and the price would make my sphincter clinch less.

What brand did they quote? I did a small amount of research and found that the Goodman brand performs almost as well as the higher-end units while being much less expensive - shooting from the hip, but like 90% of the efficiency for 60% of the cost of the similar Air Trane unit. I got 10 years P&L on it, too.

@cosjobs, how's the Galveston rental going? I'm still thinking sometime this fall.
Staying rented every weekend so far. Was hoping for some full weeks, but 2-3 days at a a shot are okay.

IMO Fall is the best time to be there.

Sweet. I'd probably eat up a week's worth of weekdays on my visit and leave the weekends for others. I'm thinking October right now, but have to let some work #### play out before I can book for sure. What's the weather like then (or even in November)?

Sounds really good. I might add a little freshly ground black cardamon and coriander seed

Agree on Goodman. I go with them unless I'm remodeling for a higher end flip and need a status brand.

Highs in the low-mid 80s

Lows in the high 60s- mid 70s

There's a few dates you want to avoid, like ROT Rally weekend. I'll try and find a list.

On the other hand Art Walk weekends (every month or two) are huge drunken bashes

My hotel bar is closed for a six month renovation even though I called them a week ago to make sure the renovation was complete. The restaurant stops serving brunch at 10 and I slept until 10:30.  The gift shop is out of sunscreen. And there is an event starting at 4 at the pool which means the second half of my afternoon of laying by said pool. has been impacted.

Such a rough life.  Why are things so hard?

"Plus, the hooker I ordered from Craigslist still had a landing strip when I specifically ordered someone shaved.  At least she brought her sister."

Are you in Austin?

For about six weeks now I have been getting numerous targeted popup ads for drug and alcohol rehab.

Thanks O Homer
I was getting ads for gay nightclubs for awhile.  Turns out my brother had been sending me emails with whole paragraphs written at the bottom about gay bars and gay escorts written in white so I couldn't see them.

I'm sure that's exactly why you were getting them

I have really high blood pressure, and 200/110 scare even me. tPw.
My wife has been running around 210-150 for a month. Doctor said he wasn't too worried about it as some people just have high BP. Even went to the ER and they said the same thing.

Seems now she has a Thyroid problem, they mentioned the C word, but nothing in stone yet.

I don't know what drink is appropriate for Sharknado 4: The Fourth Awakens, but I'm going with Drambuie and iced tea. Seems right.

100/70

The doctor took it again and confirmed the blood pressure because after talking to me and hearing all my stress she thought the nurse screwed up my bp

but i had to have an ultrasound on my abdomen friday because ive been having weird pains.  No results yet.
