Mrs. SLB was complaining of a sore throat last night and that she didn't feel good. This morning she started to vomit then lost complete bowel function. After that her arms went numb and she couldn't feel me squeeze her hand. She looked dazed but uttered "call 911". Mrs. SLB is a tough broad so I didn't hesitate. Spent about 5 hours in the ER where I did unspeakable, nauseating,  things to assist her since they were apparently too busy to help.   Thankfully she just has a really bad virus and was severely dehydrated.  They also believe she passed out but was still somewhat coherent, forget the word they used. Anyhow, she'll be fine but scary, particularly for the boys.
Damn GB. Happy she'll be ok. That sounds scary as hell.

Yikes!  Glad she's ok.

Whoah. Good to hear she'll be alright.

You inconsiderate ##### are just intent on ruining 3some day.  Now cos is going to say oh the virus was picking up a little bit sorry to hear about your wife's flu and gm is going to get righteously pissed about belittling the seriousness of vomit and paralytic bowel evacuation and zooks is going to pop in to ask how pepper looked and dentits to find out if she dumped on your chest and bill is staring at his screen where he's typed out i lit some candles and they ran a bubble bath and then i started to put on my aaron neville cd but changed my mind and put on some jazz because i was thinking about it and i didn't want my One Great Memory to have some fat dude with a high pitched voice in it no matter how beautiful it is and then he sees 29+ new replies and clicks show first 29 replies and it's all omg bob is she ok and that's so scary and bob how do you look in a short skirt and he just quietly clicks delete, letter by letter and replaces the whole post with tpw gb.  Selfish ####s

If i had to pick between pretty much anyone and gm i would pick forrest.  And so would damon.  Over the last 20 years you guys have spent more time together here than maybe any two people and a lot of it was over the internet or the phone and like any relationship moved past the epic stripper ice cream cake construction phase into the actually seriously mad about fantasy football team co ownership and how dare you belittle my storm phase.  Hey, i get it.  Have your fight.  But #### you both if you're going to imp up this thread with serious feelings about something i don't know anything about before our new el duque de menage tells us if one sampled his coq au vin while the other enjoyed his croquettes.  Take this #### to the donald trump thread.
that was brilliantly constructed

bravo

My understanding from the Seattle Times was that the biggest concern is WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE.
Not to minimize your concerns, but I read 35-55 mph winds. Didn't seems so awful. But then I read about tornados in Tillamook? wtf? Scary and bizarre. Has this stuff ever happened there before?

Those are the sustained winds, with gusts up to 100 mph.  Tornadoes in both WA and OR yesterday, and that's before it "got bad" as today is the worse day.  At first it was being compared to a "murderous" storm from 1962 that might have been the worst ever here.  I think they've dialed that back a bit - at one point the sustained winds were predicted to be a higher range and 130 mph gusts.  It's almost impossible to predict and the forecast has been constantly changing.

Starting to get bad here - not too bad yet but the worst is supposed to be from 7-9 p.m. where I am.

Annnnnndddd...just like that it just got a whole lot worse.  ####.  Still have power so far.

So houses in that area should be built to withstand more than that, right? Not that it wouldn't be scary but any house built to code in the last 30-40 years should be spec'ed to withstand?

Did you put big Xs of masking tape across the windows?

What about flooding? Are you or GM in the 100 year floodplain?

Simmer down, fred.  Here's a dream for you to interpret for me:

I was getting together with some guy's parents, some guy I liked but not anyone I've actually ever met IRL.  They lived on this HUGE estate.  I was in this short white dress, which I was happy I'd happened to bring along because no one had told me I'd need to dress up but as it turned out it was a party where all the women were in white and I would have been so embarrassed if I didn't have it.  The guy and I had to walk for miles and miles over this gigantic lawn to get to the mansion, and then we wound through hallways, turned corners, through more hallways, where there were little vendors set up in kiosks - it was like a maze - and finally got to where his mom was, and she looked me over a bit dismissively and said to him, "Where is that woman with my necklace?"  It turned out that "that woman" was my mom, and she and his mom had been walking through all these hallways earlier and stopped at a jewelry kiosk, and my mom helped his pick out some jewels for a necklace that was going to be made for her to wear to the big party.  His mom was in a hurry to get home to prepare for the party, so my mom volunteered to wait and bring the necklace when it was ready.  I went back through the maze of hallways to find my mom, a little irritated that she hadn't been more efficient, that his mom had had to wait, but feeling horrified that his mom had been so arrogant and refused to refer to her by name.  It was like she was the hired help.  I found my mom, who had just gotten the necklace, and I can still picture the necklace in my head - I can give you a description if necessary for the interpretation - but I think the dream ended then.

If chance of flooding, two pieces of advice

1) If you have an island downdraft exhaust fan (or anything else) the vents out of the house close to the ground, go plug that ##### up now.

2) DO NOT open the door once the water rises above the bottom edge. It will hold back an amazing amoujnt of water if unopened and chances are, once the flooding peaks, it typically reverses at the same speed

Had I known those two things and practiced them, I would have saved about $60,000 last year.

The amount of rain we've had loosens the soil so the ginormous trees that dot our property go from anchored in rock to anchored in sand.  Add in gusts of 50-100MPH winds and you have big timber falling like match sticks.  Yeah, we have a basement - sort of.  Leads out to the back yard.  I don't care about structural damage, but I've got a lot of small bodies inside this old dwelling that won't fare well when the massive spruces fall over.  Add in an almost assures loss of power and it should be a gas tonight.

Yes. Far worse actually. Look at the 1996 storm.

This is just a little one, but as usual the media blows it up.

Basements - I should know if they're common here since I've seen most of the houses in the area, but I"m not sure.  I haven't seen many but maybe they exist.

Flood plains - sorry again about your luck, GB.  Flooding is going to be a major problem here.  Not an issue for where I am but will be huge for many people.

Winds are definitely the big issue.  We didn't tape up any windows - I don't even know what to do.  Two full sides of my house plus most of a third side are windows.  Seemed nice when I bought it, notsomuch now.  The big issue here and in most of the region will be the trees.  We have at least 10(?) large (80+-foot) trees that could take out my house, plus a bunch of smaller ones that could get us.

This is hitting the Olympic Peninsula the worst, which is where I am.  Kitsap where fish is might be nearly as bad.  I think Redmond should be in a better spot and see fewer effects.  The closer you are to the coast, the worse off.

I'm kind of hoping now that we lose power since at least it would stop Mr krista from shouting so much over the Cubs game.

Yeah, daylight basements are about all I've ever seen here.

You should be almost done with the worst of it down there, shouldn't you?  I thought the path was coming to you first before it rolled up to WA.  Glad you're OK so far.

I'd go ahead and tape the windows now. It works surprisingly well holding the glass together if its pierced. Duct tape is the best

But google says this

Taping up windows prevents them from shattering."

No. No it does not. In fact, it can make matters worse. When untaped windows get hit with flying debris, they're liable to shatter into a million tiny pieces. Sure, that sounds bad, but consider the alternative. When taped windows are hit with debris, they still break, but into larger, more menacing, dangerous pieces. These are the shards that could cause really damage to you. So forget the tape; it's just a pain to clean up afterwards anyway.

Shrug. I'd tape them myself. To me its more about have some structure in the window hole to minimize rain coming in.

We don't have any choice at this point anyway.  Way too much window and way too little tape.  Will plan better next time.  Thanks for the advices.

I'd worry more about the falling trees anyway. Is the wind coming from a particular direction, so you can pick a relatively safe place in the house?

Damn, glad to hear it's all going to be fine.

Last time we had gusts >50 mph my little town had three deaths.  The biggest problem is that developers cut down forests to build housing developments, but our stupid county makes them leave 25' of trees all around.  So weak, tall trees that depended on the rest of the forest are exposed and tend to fall over in high wind gusts.  We'll definitely lose power, maybe for a couple days.  At least a couple houses around here will have trees fall on them.

:goodposting:   That's the problem for me right now.  See those two on the right?  Nothing else around them, and they're like 100 feet tall.  Why the #### were they left there?  Every time we have a storm these are the two that want to kill me.  The ones on the left worry me less since there are more of them.

And yes, it got weirdly sunny for a little bit.  New clouds rolling in now.
