GM's thread about nothing (10 Viewers)

On the dark side of big corporate living today. Hey, we really value you and think you do a good job so here's a #### ton of money but #### you, we're not going to do anything that might advance your career because you haven't kissed enough ### in the past year.
Sorry GB. Corporate life can be the suck.
If you can let go of your pride and individuality, it can be awesome.
You might like Starbucks after all. Everyone here is an individual. That's why we are so unproductive. I am literally creating my job every day and choosing whichever direction my team will go, along with many others like me. Not sure if that makes any sense.

oh and BTW, GB youtube and apple TV I'm literally watching the entire pearl jam concert from 2 nights ago on my 50 inch tv while I'm venting to y'all
Link?
BTW, is that Eddie Vedder on the Sounders billboards or just some random Seattle Vedder lookalike?
I haven't seen it, but I would believe either one. Seems like everyone besides me in Seattle has run into Vedder around town at some point.

Excellent! Thanks GB. Why don't we get stuff like this on TV here?PS, they have some kickass gear.

Yeah- I understand the VP you hired from here is no longer there. Not suprised. He was hired as something he wasn't and his personality wasn't a fit. Somebody screwed up on that one.

It was a big deal on the PJ boards on Saturday night. Apparently the entire Lollapolluza Brazil show was broadcast live on TV...it was sold out 50k+, poor country, expensive tickets, etc. but PJ was the only band that didn't allow live broadcast. Apparently citing that AT&T censored them at Lollapolluza in Chicago when they were talking about Bush in 09ish. Granted, those are message board rumours, but there's likely some truth in there.

Either way, I don't care, I have decent access to a live show 2 days old that is pretty stellar  These mofos can ####### rock

I don't care if you hate your jobs. I work in Seattle now. When are we drinking?

I'd be willing to drive down and take you to an Astro game some evening, preferably weekday.

Name it. Next two Fridays I'm either getting drunk with Guster or flying back to Seattle but after that I'm pretty much wide open. Britney is the one who'd hard to nail down

Baseball game?

Played 9 holes today (real golf, no frisbees involved) and I'm currently digesting a 16 oz steak and working on beer #4. Going out in a bit to meet some friends and get pleasantly boozed up.

Good day so far.
You're not working on a Friday night, or is this just like pre-game batting practice?
I only work Sat-Sun-Mon, but will be adding Friday nights in a couple weeks.
And you still didn't take my call?

:kicksrock:
Sorry, GB. I was at the bar and drinking like a Viking and there were ladyparts all around me.

since Shuke used his Golden Corral gift certificate.
:lmao: Even I have standards. Albeit low. I was just thinking tonight, if I was single, I'm not sure what would prevent me from getting one of those $5 Little Caesers pepperoni pizzas 7 nights a week.
Ummmm, because they're not good and then you'd be a fat #### that no one would want to bang if they weren't legally obligated to do so.

You da man! Will have to figure out a day where I'm over there with dinner plans, but ill keep you posted. Just a heads up, a lot of the time these dinners get put together last minute, so when I posted this I guess I was looking more toward drinks. Either way ill let you know when my a gesture is set.

Good morning Jim,

business

Got a really big order last week for a new customer. Really excited about that. My partners' nerves unwound just a little when that PO came. Also, two years ago we brought on a guy to be our "CFO" (even though we aren't big enough to be using "C" titles) and while he is a good guy and capable, his input has largely been closing the month in Quickbooks a month or two late and/or making observations about how things are in bad shape. As of last week he has been busting his rump to get our taxes done and get our books in order using QB online so they will stay up to date. I'm thankful for the help/input and even more thankful that the financial reporting, etc. doesn't fall on me. A few more good quotes out there and if we can win a couple I'll feel much better.
job

Had three interviews in a row at Del yesterday. All three went really well and I feel like the interviews I've had in the last two months really prepared me well for this one. Absolutely crushed the "there are a lot of candidates for this position, why you?" question that always seems to come up. Also finally got a little traction at VMWare.

I'm not as religious as I once was, but having our day trip to Dollywood with the in-laws cancelled truly makes me believe in the power of prayer.

I really can't wait to hear the Uni vs Stu story tomorrow.

Seriously the only interesting thing posted in the last 3 pages.
Nothing really exciting. I was kinda hoping Stu's big friend Dan (who I drunkenly kept calling Don all night by mistake, damnit) would pull a Homer and dump beer all over a stripper or something, but everything was fairly tame. It had been a long time since I had been to a strip club.. Not sure exactly how much I spent but there were multiple trips to the ATM involved. Way too drunk. I'm a big fat idiot. :bag:

I felt bad because I think Stu had to be up at 8 this morning to take his son camping or some such. We got there around 6 and were originally planning to just stay for an hour or two at most. I think it was after midnight and I was still forcing Stu to stay because I fell in love with one particular blonde girl. We smoked many cigarettes on the patio. Very classy. She was probably the hottest 26 year old with four kids (ages 11, 8, 6, and 3) I've ever met... She dialed her number in my phone and said we should go out sometime. Seems like a great idea, what could go wrong?

Was a fun day though. I want to do Opening Day every weekend.

ETA: Just remembered that I made out with blonde stripper for several minutes. :bag: I think I have an assigned seat on Stu's Herpes Bus now. Never hanging out with that degenerate again.

westhollow? I'm south, but work downtown. Katy is out west. Let me know when you get here, either via PM or MOC :scared:

Who the hell has a 5-year old's birthday party from 4:30-6:30 on a Saturday?

Psychopath.
It's the only time they could reserve [facility], so yes, they suck.
It's at a fire station, which sounds really awesome for a half hour or so but how does that stay cool for 2 hours? Really considering lighting up a cig outside their door for shtick.
I went to a birthday party last year for one of my kid's classmates at... the county sanitation yard. Seriously.

Basically county sanitation puts on a weekly fair telling you all about recycling, etc. The kids got to get into the trucks and work the equipment that lifts the garbage cans into the truck and (of course) blow the truck horns (incessantly). It was... unique.

It used ot be that when I was hippling and wanted to get back to where I was after a post, I could just hit alt+ <- twice and I'd be right where I left off. That doesn't work anymore and every hipple costs me 2-3 minutes to find where I was before. Does anyone understand what I'm saying and have a solution for me?
Man that seems terribly inefficient. Shark move is opening reply box in new browser tab.
You have just save me 14 1/2 days, assuming I live to 75 and keep posting here at the same rate. tyvm.
Now enjoy trying to figure out which of the 12 open tabs labeled "GM's thread about nothing" is in fact the one you want to jump back to. :coffee:

I found out the oil & gas company that I'd be working for if I decide to do this five-month assignment. It's located on McKinney? Does that give you any info from which you can give me advice?

There's something oddly refreshing about getting some real work done late on a Friday night with a drink in my hand. Clearly, when I read that sentence, I want to slap myself...but what can I say
I'm a big fan of drunken productivity. It fits with my "last email out" policy. I usually spend an hour every night responding to emails with a glass of wine or bottle of beer in hand so that the ball is in somebody else's court whenever the day starts.
Big fan of this strategy.
You work with people in India? I do and they respond to emails at ungodly hours their time. I'm not exactly sure how I'm supposed to compete with that besides that fact that I'm a U.S. citizen.
Good point. Anybody I'm going to email is in the US. 90% of them are in the Central Time Zone and 10% are in Eastern, which means it's even later for them.
Girlfriend used to work for a (dysfunctional) Aussie company. The emails would start for her around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening. :wall:

How do you feel about calling people either at lunchtime or late evening in their time zones to avoid having to talk with them? I regularly employ these.
:goodposting: for those "sorry I forgot to [follow up in some way]" calls, but it's always awesome when you're in voicemail mode placing the call and then someone answers.

I know 15 or so Oil companies that lists McKinney as their address and about 40 more on side streets from McKinney, so I can only help with general details around the street.

Corporate chat related: We found out on Tuesday (the first day back from spring break) that one of the principals in our district suddenly resigned. When somebody in education resigns in the middle of the school year there is usually some major drama behind it. So far everybody has been pretty tight-lipped about it. The rumor-mill has been pretty quiet. Just yesterday I heard one version of what happened. I'd put the odds at 2-1 that it is true. There have been complaints about Gary's management and leadership skills for the last 3 years or so. Nothing major but most of his teachers don't like him. I've also heard that some parents aren't too crazy about him either. So I guess it all came to a head the week before Spring Break. Our superintendent, we'll call him Chalmers, goes to see Gary in his office. Chalmers: I'll get right to the point. We're really not happy with your style of leadership and there have been way too many complaints. Gary:  Chalmers: We think the best thing is to reassign you to the district office until August [when our contracts run out]. That will give us a chance to evaluate the situation and give you time to maybe look elsewhere for a position. Gary:  Chalmers: This has been going on for a few years, Gary. You know this is a fair resolution to the problem, right? Gary: F*** you. So the next day they hold an emergency board meeting where Gary just turns in his resignation. Not sure why he didn't take the offer since it would be about 5 months free salary for doing a jerk-off job. Hopefully, since he's no longer an employee of the district, we'll get the full story soon.

Sorry, wasn't clear. I know which company it is (can send PM) but was just looking for general info.

Both awesome and idiotic at the same time.

I hope he does not re-enter the school without being frisked.
