Going to DirectTV (1 Viewer)

Finally fed up with Cable's repeated "your promo ran out" gig..

$ 6 more a month this month, then they tell me that in May it will go up another $15 month due to my Internet promo running out.

So, I am now paying $210/ month for Cable TV, Internet and land line phone.

Thinking of now going to DirectTV.. $ 88 month for months 1-12 and $ 116 for months 13-24.

Internet will still cost me 59.99 month through cable...no other provider in the area except Verizon DSL (no thanks). Don't need land line any more.

Free NFL ticket in year 1 ~

Now I can watch and get annoyed and drown my frustrations at every Cowboys game in the comfort of my own home.

what say you ??

The only real downfall for me with DirecTV was their OnDemand. The programming was limited and the programs were constantly stopping and buffering.

Aside from that, the price, quality, and customer service were tough to beat.

I have DTV coming tomorrow to do my install. Got sick of paying 190$ for my cable and internet, and that was with only 1 box and no premium channels (HBO etc..). Keeping internet through the cable company. Savings are going to be about $70/month for me, and after the year (or two?) it will still be saving of about $40 or so. And with DTV, I will get better channels. Also get a $100 Visa card with the set-up. Hoping the service and everything are good, and by everything I have read, it should be.

Go for it. It took a little to get used to it after switching from Dish, but I'm happy.

BTW, sent you a PM. ;)

:honda: on this as there are several DirecTV threads, but for those of you who are new, after your 1st year of discounts runs out, just call and say "Cancel Service" at the prompts, and then tell the customer retention rep that your bill is too high. They'll inevitably give you free stuff. Usually a $20 bill credit for 6-12 months is easy. Sometimes you can get more, like free Sunday Ticket (again), or free movie channels. I do this every 6 months or so, and have for several years.

My call is 2 weeks away, my first anniversary with DirecTV is coming right up. Swinging for MLB Extra Innings at or near free, already killed all of the movie channels.

Will report back into whatever one of these threads happens to be on the front page at that time.

Same here. I just had my last discounted payment and starting April 3rd it goes up. I'm on auto-pay to my CC, so I think I'll go with my gf is not happy about paying this much and wants to try TWC because they're offering a Visa gift card ..etc..
This is my go-to line. Works well because you can always tell them, "I have to check with her to see if she's OK with it," if they don't offer you enough.

DirecTV app is pretty good - I don't use it to watch TV, but I do find it useful to schedule shows remotely when something pops in my head.

If you're cheap like me, check out http://www.freepreview.tv/ to get alerts on when DirecTV is having a free movie weekend and then load up your DVR.

I've been with them for 6 years and been real happy with them. I pay about $85/mo for 3 DVR'd TV's. I'm sure I can save some $ by cutting the cable, but #### it, this is something I enjoy and I like channel surfing and love having the Sunday ticket hassle-free.

If you can/want to, use a Visa/MC/whatever debit card. DirecTv treats this like a checking account payment. Reason being, they auto charge your CC the day your bill hits if your autopay option is CC, and if you have a bill dispute, the difference gets reflected the following month. So, current disputed month they will get the full original amount, essentially leaving you holding the bag for it. I experienced this months 3-4. I gave them my Visa debit card, which draws on my checking account. Invoice hits the 5th of the month, money drawn the 20th of the month. If I dispute something on the 19th, they pull the right amount on the 20th.

It's my go-to line too, but it's because I take every chance I can get to throw her under the bus when she's not around.
