U2 - Community rankings - FIN - #4 Sunday Bloody Sunday, #3 - One, #2 - Bad, #1 - Where the Streets Have No Name -Spotify links, thanks to Krista4 (1 Viewer)

Saw the show last night. Unbelievably great. The venue/visuals are incredible—-unlike anything I’ve ever seen and the band lived up to it.

Bono’s voice is nowhere near what is has been but he’s such a great showman and can still bring it vocally when he needs to.

The Edge and AC are still in fine form and the replacement drummer (Vandenberge?) was good.

I can’t overemphasize how cool the visuals in the Sphere are though. See this show if you can even if you’re only a casual U2 fan.

OK, the reviews in this thread convinced me and I pulled the trigger to go to the show on Feb. 18. Would be the last one unless they extend again. Mr. krista has Sundays/Mondays off, and this was the only Sunday show, so it worked best for our schedule. Given pricing, I decided just to go alone and Mr. krista can do whatever the hell it is he does, since he's not much of a U2 fan. Bought a package that also includes two nights in a suite at the Venetian and some other swag and crap. W00t.

Good call on the Venetian. Short walk back through the post-show cluster.

In addition to being a U2 fan

In addition to being a U2 fan, my wife is OBSESSED with the sphere. Last time we were in Vegas, she wanted to find a place that we could view it from. We ended up on a balcony at a bar where you could see maybe half of it way off in the distance. And she stayed out on the balcony for a LOOONG time. So for this trip, I booked a sphere view room at the Venetian (actually the Palazzo tower). So she can sit there for hours watching it if she likes.

Also, do you recall about what time the concert finished? We actually head to the airport after the show for a 1am flight. Might be cutting it close.

They started at 8:45 and finished at 10:55.

Catching a 1am flight will definitely be a close call.

There were 100+ person taxi lines at all the nearby casinos and getting an Uber near the venue was impossible. We didn't get back to our hotel (1.4 miles from the venue) until 1 am--granted, we waited in one of those taxi lines before deciding to walk a ways and finally got an Uber.

Thanks for the info! Very helpful. It’s a 10 minute walk to our hotel (Venetian) but things may be hectic there as well. So thanks to you I’ll be sure to arrange for a car service.

This is so great to hear! I am going on Dec 9. Have floor tickets. Can't wait.

Re Bono's voice. There is no doubt it is not what it used to be. I will say, however, that it is still pretty good and absolutely amazing if you compare him to his peers. Guys like Axl Rose and Vince Neal are out touring with their bands these days and are just embarrassingly awful. Bono is on a completely different level. It is also a testament to the band that they are running this 5 months (or more) residency in the most state of the art venue ever constructed in their 60s. Legends.

Rumor is that Larry will be back for the 2024 shows.

Would love to hear some of Mr krista’s explanations for not being into U2. I hope at least some of it involves meh lyrics such as “who’s gonna taste your saltwater kisses…”

Edit to add: listening to Achtung today and just shuked by some of the lazy lyrics from Bono.

Blame that on Eno.
Left to his own devcices, Bono writes, rewrites and agonises over every word….see albums 2000 onwards
Eno would cajole, yell, scream and get him to record basic lyrics to the song and lock it in before Bono got to rewrite.
I think theres also a lot more to this story involving his lyrics being stolen etc

I don’t agree. I think some of his best lyrics are on Achtung Baby.
Some of his best lyrics ARE definitely on AB. Just not the lyrics I quoted above.
After listening again, I think the lyrics on this entire song are brutal. This was probably covered earlier at some point but….

You’re dangerous cos you’re honest
You’re dangerous, you don’t know what you want

Ok

You stole it cos I needed the cash
You killed it cos I wanted revenge
Well you lied to me cos I asked you to
Baby, can we still be friends (dumbest single line in the song)

And I stand corrected. Dumbest line is “don’t turn around your gypsy heart.”

Despite this, I can’t wait to hear this song and the entire album live 5 weeks from tonight!!!!

First performance of Seconds since 1985.
It gutted me to miss this performance…..

But……we just got back to our hotel after being at the Sphere tonight!! Awesome time. Mrs and kids all loved it! Mrs APK in particular was tickled because they played Two Hearts Beat as One (#18 on her list).

Quick thoughts:
Sphere is amazing visually. It was its own spectacle.

The band sounds great. Crowd was super into Achtung songs but really got into the encore songs later on.

Bono looks old. Really freaking old. He can still hit a lot of notes, but he has to cheat on extended high notes.

Ultraviolet was, to me, the surprise highlight of the evening. Band was excited to play it and the visuals were beyond additive. Until The End of the World was also great. Ditto for One. Wild Horses was a crowd favorite. Biggest dud IMO was Trying to Throw Your Arms.

Glad we went. My daughter loved it. Capital L. Loved. Son had fun. Doesn’t know Achtung as well but still was glad to be there. Wife loved it. I liked the 2017 tour better, but the Sphere was cool.

Imagine my surprise when I was in a store today and Indian Summer Sky from TUF came on. I have never heard that played anywhere. Not on the radio, not in public, not on any of the countless bootlegs I have. It took me almost the entire song to figure out which song it was.

Well, U2 at the Sphere was completely bonkers. The visuals are simply jaw dropping. The band was also really, really good. Bono's voice sounded great and he only bailed on a high note maybe once or twice. I think it's possible that the key was lowered for Where the Streets Have No Name, but it sounded amazing regardless.

Earlier in the day, my wife and I visited the U2 exhibit in the Canal Shoppes (at the Venetian) and bought tickets for the small cinema there - we watched the live concert video from the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 in Paris. For me, it was an extremely nostalgic experience as I saw that tour in Los Angeles when I was 17 and it was such an amazing experience at the time. My wife enjoyed it immensely because she was a huge fan and never got to see that tour. It was a great bookend for the day - seeing young U2 on stage with all their verve and then mature U2 live in one of the most incredible visual shows in history.

I echo what bigbottom says above. Was at the Sat show this past weekend on the floor.

Almost impossible to describe with words. Bono is in incredible singing form. The show was surreal. It is hard to explain how amazing it was. YouTube videos don’t come close to doing it Justice. The sphere never overpowers the band and, like always, they find a way to shrink the room and make it so intimate.

Going to go again when Larry is back in 2024. If you are even thinking about going just do it. It is absolutely incredible.

Agree 100%. I took some photos and a couple short videos, but there’s really no point in showing them to anyone. It’s like showing someone a photo of the Grand Canyon.

How long did you have to wait to get in? Once you had your place on the floor, did you have to leave for any reason - if so, how hard was it to get back to your spot?

Due to delayed flights of a couple of family members we only walked in at about 7:45. No lineup, paid an obscene amount for drinks (again no lineup) and then caught the last 30-40 mins of the dj set. We were on edge’s side about 20 people back with perfect sight lines. There is no need whatsoever to get there early.

Can also advise that it is safe to buy floor tickets on the secondary market. Had to get one because we had a fifth person come last minute. No issue at all, even though it seems kind of sketch because you can’t load to your wallet. The ticket gets sent to a website called secure tickets and you just keep that webpage open to scan it.

Also, you can go right back to your spot. Everyone is super chill. Several folks near the rail had to leave to the washroom and people just let them go right back. Great vibe on the floor.

I was also on the floor. I walked right in, stopped in the lounge for an overpriced cocktail, and then walked right to the floor---right where the DJ's car stopped mid-stage. I requested some New Order and he played it next. :hifive:

I left to go to the bar once mid-show and got right back to my spot. Us olds are very polite......

Last word I heard is Larry is sitting out the 2024 Sphere shows.
This is what is posted on U2.com:

U2's first live outing in four years, Sphere will be the only place fans can see this show, now with 36 total dates running through February 18, 2024. Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton will once again be joined onstage by Bram van den Berg, sitting in on drums for Larry Mullen Jr.

dang. still going again.

Did any of those who've seen the show do the VIbee packages? This is what I bought, not realizing that Vibee is Tickemaster. Some of you know of my issues with Ticketmaster and that I basically can't buy from them anymore under my real name and email, so I'm worried that they're going to screw me out of my $$ and I won't know in time to dispute with Amex. So if any of you used these packages, I'd love to understand how the process worked. @Mr. Landry @zoonation @bigbottom @Alex P Keaton @The Dreaded Marco

Hey krista- just double checked w Mrs APK. We did not do that package. Sorry…..nothing to add….but hope that it isn’t an issue for you!!

Alas, no. I bought on Stubhub.

Unfortunately, I did not use them either. I went through the fan club. People I know who bought the package did receive their tickets in their Ticketmaster account. If that helps (or doesn't, as the case may be).

I did not use Vibee. Got my tickets through the presale. Assuming you skate the ticketmaster issue, make sure they don't try and give you tickets in row 20 or higher in the 100 section. the overhang cuts off the screen. have heard of people getting screwed with that. all those vibee tickets are supposed to be premium and row 20+ are not premium for that reason.

Hello everyone!!
I haven’t been checking this thread lately & just caught up w some of the comments from the past couple of mths. (I miss the daily interactions & dialogues….it definitely got me thru the pandemic & some bad days (physically). and I thank you for that 🙏)

Anyways, just wanted to let everyone know I’m headed to the U2@UV Sphere concert on WED FEB 7th.
Mrs Nemesis is the one who convinced me that we have to go & then did the “legwork” to get the tickets thru the Ticketmaster presale.
Have GA tickets & staying at The Flamingo, even going the extra mile paying a little more for a Sphere ⚪️view room.

If any FBG is also planning on being at the Feb 7th show, shoot me a PM.

Also, I have been keeping up with all of the concerts so far (set lists, tips, feedbac, etc)

U2 SPHERE SET LISTS (easy view) <-Googledoc

MERCH: I’ve seen photos of the merch being sold at the ZOO STATION (Venetian Store) and the Sphere on property Tents at the concert. IMO, I think it’s crap. Overpriced & bad quality. I’ve read many posts where the screen printing is mis-aligned or the shirt quality was bad.
And the biggest complaint is that the graphic designs aren’t really that good.

QUESTION to those that have gone: What was your experience & did you buy any Merch?

As you probably know, the Superbowl is in LV SUN FEB 11th.
We are heading home on THUR to avoid the crowds & extra $$$ hikes.
Will be interesting to see if that wkend’s U2 concert has something different or special.

I bought the red alien shirt and like it. My wife bought the black hoodie with the butterfly and likes it. We went to the tent outside day of show to avoid lines in the venue that night. The merch isn’t jaw dropping or anything, but I think it’s fine. I also picked up some vinyl for my son.

I bought two shirts. One from the "experience" in the Venetian and one at the Sphere. Both are good quality. Overpriced, like at any concert, but not cheaply constructed.

The shirt quality is (IMO) terrible. Hoodies, ditto. But there is a lot of other non-clothing merch that is really cool. The program is nice enough to display on a bookshelf. Some of the prints are nice. They sell out of a lot of stuff early though.

I went to the show last night (Feb 7th). Sat in sec 211, right against the wall, which gave an interesting perspective ($380 total price on Vivid seats, bought yesterday at 6 PM). Pat McAffee was there in a suite, and Chris Rock was also there on his birthday.
Sphere is amazing and I thought the show was good. They didn't play my favorite songs (Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year's Day, I will Follow) and I felt they could have made better use of the incredible capabilities of the Sphere's technology. Stilll, a good to great show.
I'm one of the old timers who believe War and Joshua Tree was the best U2.
