Pudge again???This award has truly become a popularity contest.
Grady Sizemore winning shows it's a popularity contest which really sucks.
I hope you're not suggesting he didn't deserve it.
He definitely didnt deserve it over Crisp and probably not over Granderson and perhaps even Wells.

I'll let a non-Indian or non-Sox fan chime in....but, defensive win shares, fielding bible, UZR, all say Crisp >>>>>Sizemore.

This award has a marketing element to it, Crisp deserved his gold-glove, but Grady is being pimped...

Coco made one error all season (comared to Sizemore's two)... Coco has measurably higher range...and has more assists. Others have also stated Crisp's superior UZR / Fielding Bible / Def Win Share numbers as well. There is, to my knowledge, not a single legitimate defensive category that Sizemore exceeds Crisp in. Please enlighten me as to your reasoning

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Granderson had a better season, Crisp was better than either. Granderson had a better range factor, more than twice as many assists, and more win shares. Crisp had all that and a better fierlding percentage. Same applies to Torii Hunter and the three should have been Ichiro, Granderson, and Crisp. Hunter won because he always wins and Sizemore won because of all the balls he has to dive for that Crisp or Granderson would just catch on the run because they have better range. You can't really argue that unless you're a homer IMO. Hunter and Sizemore are both great fielders and that's not the point. They just aren't better than Crisp and Granderson. Maybe they should go to five outfielders or something, maybe basing the voting on stats instead of highlight reels or the history of the player. Just because Hunter was the best OF in baseball two or three years ago doesn't mean he is today. Gold gloves are very subjective.

Where is this win share data coming from? Crisp is barely in the top 20 AL OF.Errors..wash. Assists..whatever, terrible stat.

You must be right, the pretty face won.

Keith Law from ESPN:

"I though Granderson deserved it; I thought Coco Crisp deserved it, and I was disappointed to see both of those guys omitted. You're talking about probably the two best center fielders in the American League this year. Similar players, too: guys with good range, good instincts-- they read the ball well off the bat. Both guys have excellent speed, too, so they're able to catch up to balls that are would be of reach of most other center fielders. And both guys have to play in difficult center fields. Granderson's-- because Detroit's is so big, and Crisp because of the odd shape of center field in Fenway."

"Grady Sizemore to me was probably a guy I would have pushed off the list, and I hate to say it, because I know we just had him on the program. Grady is a lot like Aaron Rowand, a guy who's really good at making the highlight play. But to me when you're actually talking about day-in, day-out range, getting to more balls, making more plays, I would have put Granderson or Crisp ahead of Sizemore on defensive ability."

You need to look at defensive win shares. Not win shares in general.
