Gonzo Owners: Let's Commiserate (1 Viewer)

It's been a very rough year for Gonzo owners. Even though he didn't go as high this year in drafts as in he did in year's past he still likely went high enough where you took him over other players who you also believed would be productive at a different position. He's clearly been one of this year's biggest busts so far and it's difficult to see things getting any better.

So what are Gonzo owners going to do going forward?

If you're in a league with tight rosters (as I am), are you considering cutting him? I'm given that serious consideration. Benching him is obviously an option but who is available in your league that is going to be a better option? Or are you going to try and trade him with the realization you may not get much offered back in return?

So Gonzo owners, what says all of you?

Not a Gonzo owner as I own Shockey (who has been equally as frusturating until this week) but the only thing you can look forward to is maybe Green will help. The only thing I think you can do is keep starting him and hope for the best. The TE scoring in general has been down for everyone this season.

maybe wait till Green gets back and see if he improves...
This had been my thought but watching the game against the Steelers I started wondering if maybe the problem here had more to do with Gonzalez and not so much Green's absence. Huard isn't even looking for Gonzalez; it's not like he's covered and Huard's checking to other receivers, he's not looking for Gonzalez hardly at all. And in the Red Zone when they do throw to TEs Huard's throwing to other TEs quite a bit. Yea Gonzalez had a TD called back yesterday so maybe that's a sign for some hope but it's really surprising to me to see how uninvolved he is as a receiver. He's not staying in to block constantly either; he's out in patterns and simply isn't a top priority in the passing game any more. As I said earlier my league has tight rosters and I'm giving serious consideration to dropping him this week for Stevens. If the practice reports about Stevens are positive I think I'm going to pull the trigger. But even with TE scoring down, I don't know how you can start Gonzalez with any type of confidence right now. He's been absolutely pathetic in three of the last four games. There are a lot of TEs who are at least doing something more than catching a couple of passes for 15-20 yards a game.

Huard isn't even looking for Gonzalez;
He actually had 7 or 8 targets this week I believe. In fact, Huard tried to force it in to him a couple of times when he was double covered. What I have seen is that they are running pass patterns for Gonzo that are really short little dump off valves, etc. Huard is taking 3-5 step drops almost exclusive to get the ball out quick and that simply doesn't allow Gonzo to get into those longer slants and deep middle routes he has done so well at for years. I do think Green coming back would be a huge boost. Maybe they'll let him start running those 15 yard + patterns again. I think the other major problem right now is that with LJ and the running game struggling, opposing defenses are putting their top defender on Gonzo and that guy doesn't have to committ to the run as much. Last week Adrian Wilson, this week alot of Polamalu, Champ Bailey at Denver....

So what did Gonzo owners do this week? Anybody cut him? Anybody benching him? I'm probably going to roll the dice and start him in my league although I'm tempted to gamble a bit on Stevens if he plays. What are the other Gonzalez owners planning on doing with him this week?
