Goodell handed down his punishment...but the Shark Pool hasn't. (1 Viewer)

We here at the Shark Pool have our own rules as set by the governing bodies of JB and DD. But within those rules they seem to allow us to think and act for oursleves. Now just because Goodell has spoken, doesn't mean we have to just nod our heads and move forward.

I propose we have our own sanctions against the Patriots for tarnishing the league, cheapening the sport, and adding doubt into players minds like Jerome Bettis on SNF...he had some serious doubts about whether the Pats knew their signals in the AFC Championship games. And we all felt like the Pats somehow got extremely lucky, or somehow knew the plays that were going to be run.

So I want to start a movement to go ahead and strip the Pats of their 3 Super Bowls. We don't have to honor those trophys in the Shark Pool. And why not address Bellichick forever as Bellicheat. This guy still doesn't get it, still acts like he didn't do anything wrong, just wants to brush over everything like it didn't happen...take some responsibility.

So being a man of principles, I think it only fair that from this day forward we no longer acknowledge the Pats as 3 time SB Champs and Bellichick forever be Bellicheat without anyone else in the Shark Pool coming down on folks that want to follow this creed. Who's with me?

boo hoo.

stick your head in the sand all you want, it doesn't change the real world.

Dude, the Hoodie just laid the smackdown on SD. At this point I'm just going to put a '*' by him in my mind and move on.

hehehe...and to think norv turner took all these precautions to lock up his playbooks.......

Maybe he should've told his team what he was going to do."Crap, I left the playbook back in San Diego in the safe. Now what am I gonna do?"

you were just thinking about all those pats superbowls and how awesome they are this year?

Not a fan of "clever" name changes. Get pretty tired of seeing people throwing them around.

Like someone else said, I'll just put an * next to their SBs.

That is exactly the type of posts I am talking about...that shirt means nothing in this instance. The pats and Bellicheat broke the rules, the entire pregame was geared around what he did, and he has been worse than Barry Bonds with the media this week...so I see no reason to honor the trophys he won as we have no reason to believe he didn't cheat the entire time. Goodell even asked for them to cough up all their illegal tapings they have done over the years. Seems pretty obvious...and they got Tony Dungy in an uproar...it takes a lot to tick ole Tony off. I'm sure this movement won't go very far...we'll see what the morning crew does with it. Probably just blow over to page 3 by Noon.

I think we should take this further. Any superbowl that was won with BB as a coach or coordinator should be considered nullified. Also, as he was one of Parcell's students and had clearly learned how to cheat from him, we should do the same for any of Parcell's superbowl wins. While we're at it, since Denver was docked a draft pick for salary cap circumvention, their SB wins should also be nullified in the years they cheated as well. I'm all for doing that kind of thing, but it has to be fair across the board and not just because people don't like the Pats and/or BB.

Let me know how this movement turns out. I'm anxiously awaiting the results.

Give it a rest already. Jeeze

Looks like today's Boston Herald article was written just for you:

FOXBORO - Want to know what the Patriots did last night? The Pats essentially raised their hand in the direction of their critics across the country - from the ungrateful narc wearing Jet green in New Jersey, to the litany of beaten rivals who called Bill Belichick’s past accomplishments into question, to the media jackals who fueled it all - and raised their middle finger.Patriots 38, San Diego 14.Tape that.

dude, grow up.

One last point:

Jimmy Johnson admitted that he did this exact thing (videotaped opponents signals) as head coach of the Cowboys in 1989.

That team was 1-15.

Just a little perspective.

That's because they already had all the game film they needed from San Diego. They just went into the archives and pulled out what they needed. SD should have changed up their old signals. :goodposting:

Stay classy, New England. :goodposting:

Not agreeing with the sentiment here, but what struck me from last night was the pats fans in the crowd making light of the situation. I would think they would want to distance themselves from the situation and let it blow over. Maybe the punishment wasn't stiff enough.

The fans and I think to some degree the coach doesn't think it was a big deal. When the story broke I didn't pay that much attention, but after watching Bob Costas, who IMO is the marquee TV Sports Analyst between HBO and NBC...that guy sort of sets the pace...he was all over Goodell last noght and Collinsworth was holding his own. NBC has done an incredible job of quickly becoming the authority for what is happening in the NFL with that Sunday Night Football show...if you don't watch it, you are missing out. But you start to realize how serious this really is. TOny Dungy never says a word about anything but he was talking about it being a really "sad day" in the NFL...you don't hear those words used much. And Norv Turner taking extra precautions...now the Pats fans are poking fun at this because they blew out the Chargers but they miss the whole point. The game last night was irrelevent, and to just "move on" like Bellicheat wants to do...this is going ot haunt him for the rest of his coaching career IMO. And Icon...twice bro? C'mon now, this thread is about the Pats, you can pile on over at the Cage as much as you like.

I agree with your recommendation.

In return, we Patriots fans commit to continuing to re-cast recent events in the context of rampant signal-stealing around the league, sour grapes from alleged "high class" individuals like Heinz Ward and Tony Dungy, and an orchestrated attempt by Bill Polian and other behind the scenes politicos to make up for their own inadequacies. We commit to remaining in-your-face whiney tools, and to take each and every opportunity to remind you that, yes indeed, your team is deficient relative to ours (nice QB you've got there in Chicago), and therefore by association you are deficient and are doomed to crying yourself to sleep each night.

Sure...just present the evidence that the Super Bowl games were affected and we can do that.

:waiting:

Oh, and if you don't have any...then ####.

:thumbup:Makes me want to resurrect my old "Whiney tool, and proud of it" sig.

MoP, you're behind the times -- if ESPN is correct (yeah, I know), Goddell is still fishing in these waters. Supposedly he's asking for not just all the tapes that the Patriots have made, but all of their notes too. If he finds anything that indicates the titles are illegitimate, I'm sure we'll hear about it.

an irrelevant win? thats certainly an opinion...just not one that means much. The wins going forward are what are most relevant.

Not a colts fan, but who is the reigning sb champ. Pats fans are back and have now overtaken Steeler fans with their arrogance.

From all the info that I've read concerning the illegal recording of defensive signals by the Pats, the only thing that was illegal was the recording of the information, not the gathering or "stealing" of signals. Did the Pats gain an advantage by recording? I'm sure that they did for future games and maybe even for post half time adjustments.

So this tells me that the Pats and any other team can continue to steal signals "legally" by using binoculars and making note of the hand signals and the time on the clock/down and distance and that they would accomplish 80% of the same result for the current game.

I think we're all blowing this "cheating" way out of proportion since stealing signals is the standard way of doing business in pro, college and even high school football (lets not forget baseball either). So if everybody's doing it then why the big outrage over somebody who is doing it better than everybody else?

The whole thing is easily solved by giving the defensive captain a wireless communication helmet anyways (which the competition committee rejected) so if they didn't think it was a big enough deal then why should we.

Did the Pats cheat? Hell yes they did. Is cheating encouraged in the NFL and every other sport except golf??? Hell yes it is as long as you don't get caught and if you do you pay the penalty/foul for the crime just like what Goddell is handing down to the Pats right now.

Here's another thought,,,right now, all we're hearing about is what the Pats do to cheat but do you think that they're the only ones doing it or something else??? I kinda doubt it and who knows what the other Superbowl losers were doing against the Pats in all of those playofff and Superbowl games??? We don't know yet because the spotlight is on the Pats but keep your mind and ears open for what else has been going on becasue the Pats can't have been the only ones.

BTW, I'm a KC fan so I have no agenda here other than as an NFL fan.

excellent post.

good luck this year, dude --- you've got a long season.

think people might be selling the d a little short, though.

get yourself a qb, a wr, and some play calling and you guys are right back in business.

Never liked the dude, he has cheapen the sport becasue he thinks he is better than everyone else. He forgot that he sucked as a coach on the Browns, and he thinks he can do whatever he wants to whatever team he wants to do it to. His ego lost the game to the Colts, which he never gave respect to, for beating his whiny ###, and he didnt care what Goodell said about cheating. He walks around with a chip on his shoulder, and I love to see it whe he gets ##### slapped.

The NFL needed to suspend Bill for 5 games if for no other reason as to make sure that the integrity of the game or the commissioner could not be questioned. He should have also been forced to have a press conference where he had to answer the questions directed at him, as Arthur Blank did regarding the Vick situation. Had there not been a directive not to do this then there could have been some gray area, but I think Goodell really just wanted the situation to not be dragged out again during the middle of the season and decided to have everything blow up just once.

Carefull what you wish for, Jimmy Johnson giving sly comments on his days as a coach and some of the things they did, sounds like a whole lot of Cheating in the league. Of course we could mention that there maybe a few teams who's only advantage in the age of parity is lots of players pumped up on roids. I am sure the NFL will continue to investigate, but when guys like Bill Cower are saying that Pittburg lost because they lost, not because the Pats cheated is a stonger indication that maybe the cheating is a little more common than your holy rolling attitude suggests. The PATS won three SuperBowls because their 53 players played better than the other teams 53 players. As a long time 49er fan, and as Im sure some Dallas fans would attest to, the Niners were doing all kinds of shady stuff in the 80's non the less they were a better team and better coached than most during that period. I'll take what the Pats did rather than be a fan of a team that seems to pickup nothing but lawbreakers, say like a whole lot of Bengals and Some of them Chi town players.

This is one of those issues that really sheds light on the ignorance of some football fans. People that get their info/opinions from TV stations with a vested interest in blowing stupid little things way out of proportion seem to think this whole cheating thing is actually noteworthy. Instead of recording signals with a notepad, the Pats used a camera - taking things a step too far as far as the rulebook is concerned. I'm willing to bet Belichick & Co. did it simply because they doubted anyone would care (sort of like going 60 in a 50 mph zone); the competitive advantage they would have gained is miniscule, and arguably nonexistent against coaches strategic enough to spread misinformation through their signals.

In fact, I would argue that the punishment was too severe when you consider the fact that the Broncos lost less for circumventing the salary cap in their SB years. And lets not forget steroids; if we're going to pretend the Pats never won that 2nd SB, does that mean we give it to.... Carolina? Are you kidding me?

I'll take what the Pats did rather than be a fan of a team that seems to pickup nothing but lawbreakers, say like a whole lot of Bengals and Some of them Chi town players.
Given the choice put that way, I'd rather my team win straight up and play right. Destructive behavior just hurts the team and makes it tougher for them to achieve their goals - in fact winning against that kind of adversity is in many ways more impressive - certainly more impressive than by dishonest means. In this specific instance with the Patriots, I certainly feel they should be punished, but I don't feel that it means rewriting the whole NFL record book.Who Dey!-QG
