You need to change your profile with Google Maps. They have you down as liking hoors and drugs.I've gotten dumped off in the middle of nowhere by Google, mapquest and iphone maps more times than I can count. Follow the directions to the letter and either end up a couple blocks from the destination, or in a residential cul-de-sac overlooking the restaurant I'm looking for, or in one case 2 miles from the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, in a really bad neighborhood.
not saying you're a liar, because Im sure this happens...I've gotten dumped off in the middle of nowhere by Google, mapquest and iphone maps more times than I can count. Well in fairness I'm pretty drunk most of the time.not saying you're a liar, because Im sure this happens...I've gotten dumped off in the middle of nowhere by Google, mapquest and iphone maps more times than I can count. id approximate in my life, Ive used google maps on my phones upwards of 3-400 times, for work, travel etc.
never been off by more than maybe.... 20-30 meters. and that's when Im in butt #### northern ontario, trying to find a cottage
Earth has the ortho photos for certain areas. I use both if I need to really check out a site.I don't hate the changes but still prefer Bing because of bird's eye view. Google is better for street view.
I liked the directions part where you could drag a starting point around. Can't do that now. I did manage to drag a point somewhere on the route, but that does me no good, then it automatically snaps back to where it was.Quez said:What did they change that you don't like? I just tried doing this on desktop and I can still do it, haven't tried on phone yet.I liked the directions part where you could drag a starting point around. Can't do that now. Just right click somewhere on map, then select directions to here, or from here, and then right click at your destination. Once the route appears just drag the pin, and directions update. You can actually drag the destination or starting point too.
Maybe it needs to be on a newer browser...
are you using the preview or the old version? i have no right click capabilites and i'm on chrome.I just tried doing this on desktop and I can still do it, haven't tried on phone yet.I liked the directions part where you could drag a starting point around. It's only failed me once. Brought me to a completely wrong location a couple of miles from the correct place. Truth be told, I was putting the name of a school in instead of the address. I looked up the address, plugged it in, and it brought me to the right place.not saying you're a liar, because Im sure this happens...I've gotten dumped off in the middle of nowhere by Google, mapquest and iphone maps more times than I can count. I'd heard the phone app update blows so I didn't update. Waiting...and now trying Waze.
Me tooI'd heard the phone app update blows so I didn't update. Waiting...and now trying Waze.![]()
I think the Android update is better than before
Probably just the typical people who hate change. I checked on the 27th and I swear the update said it was from that day. All the recent reviews said it sucked so I held off. Now I look and it says the latest is from the 12th. I'm only one version down so doing the upgrade. I've been ok with 7.x version once I got used to the changes.Me tooI'd heard the phone app update blows so I didn't update. Waiting...and now trying Waze.![]()

I just tried everything you said and it still works the same for me. I hold my finger on the point I want to go to, then a pin appears. In the bottom right there is a car, and you click it and directions appear. Scroll down for alternate routes.new maps sucks.... they took away alternate route from where you are, now tou have to back all the way out...
crashes my phone
the old traffic overlay was better.
some thinga that used to be 2 clicks are 5.
no big deal except when drivibg
eta: talking about the phone app changes
Just did this. Held finger on a point, pin appeared, bottom right was a car, clicked it. directions came up, no alternates. There's a "direct" route to there on the interstate and it seems Google thinks that's the only logical choice. There's a state route that runs right next to the interstate between where I live and 30 miles in that direction. Never an option in Google as an alternate. And once you start a navigation you can't change the route (select an alternate) if traffic is bad. As was said, you have to back out and start over...or just ignore the route and have it recalculate once you veer from directions.I just tried everything you said and it still works the same for me. The traffic I always have on from the slide out tab. I am on a Galaxy Note 2 with the latest Google Map update from Dec. 12th, so maybe you guys are talking about a newer update I haven't gotten yet.
Not sure if we're talking about the same thing but search nearby is available both on PC and in the mobile app for me.The "search nearby" function was money for me when trying to direct customers on where to find my products, and when selecting hotels while travelling. It's gone, nowhere to be found, and from the Google maps discussion forum, Google reps are being pretty obtuse about it. They seem to be more enamored with format than functionality.
Oh well,Yahoo maps still has search nearby...........and I'm going to seek out Waze for my Droid.
I've wasted enough time trying to discern a programmers fantasy.........

Not seeing it on desktop. This is on the preview version which I convinced a lot of people aren't even using on the desktop. I type in an address. The pin is there for my address, but nothing happens when I click. No right click of course. There's a "try searching" in the top left that just lists two business types. The fact this is so unintuitive is such a big step backwards. They tried to make everything so consolidated visually that the functionality has suffered enormously. Not sure if we're talking about the same thing but search nearby is available both on PC and in the mobile app for me.The "search nearby" function was money for me when trying to direct customers on where to find my products, and when selecting hotels while travelling. Did it steer you wrong on the way to the doctor's office or something?Good God it's terrible
No I am talking when they went from "2 different apps" Navigation and Maps down to just the one. Sometime during the summer. yeah, no "search nearby" in preview of the new version but all you have to do is type some_word and loc: in front of the location and you get the same info. beer loc:your address works but you're right it's not as intuitive.NutterButter said:Not seeing it on desktop. I understand that now. I didn't need to change route midway through trips much, so I never noticed. I do like the integration of the two apps better though.belljr said:No I am talking when they went from "2 different apps" Navigation and Maps down to just the one. Sometime during the summer. While in navigation
The "old" way - while I was driving all I had to do was hit the time and the traffic overlay would show up on your route with the appropriate colors.
New way - you have to click the little squares, then click route preview, and when the inital change was made the traffic overlay wasn't even there.
Supposedly now you have dynamic alternate routes if there is traffic. The new way does show alternate routes. However if I am say halfway into my trip, the alternate routes still show of the ones that were from the beginning of the trip.
THe "old" way all I had to do was hit the "options" button, then select alternate route. If would then create alternate routes from my current location while keeping my current navigation.
The only way to do that now is hit x, backup to find directions and let it "refind" from "my location" - it's still doable but it's a bit "cumbersome" compared to the old way.
Maps is great except the features Navigation used to have, are made "harder" to accomplish the same things.
I hope that makes sense.
i didnt like waze that much, but yeah now, traffic incidents on maps will say reported via WazeI understand that now. I didn't need to change route midway through trips much, so I never noticed. I do like the integration of the two apps better though.I hear a lot of people use Waze for GPS over google. I prefer google for nav, but use Waze daily on my commute. Since they were acquired by Google I am sure it is only a matter of time before the two worlds collide. The traffic data on Google Maps is usually better though, but Waze you can interact & see more detailed info.belljr said:No I am talking when they went from "2 different apps" Navigation and Maps down to just the one. You can fix it, http://www.google.com/mapmakerGoogle Maps has beenfor quite a while.. If anyone types in our address at Mapquest, Bing or Yahoo Maps it comes up with the correct location.
Type in the same address at Google Maps and it puts you on the other side of the highway, and there is no connecting street over to our house.![]()
Can't tell you how many times we've had someone try to delivery something and get a call asking "Where is your house?!?!?"
It has gotten to be such a problem that now when we order something we tell them to use Bing, Yahoo or MapQuest and to ignore Google Maps.
I'll give that a try.. tried the "in view report bad marker" to no avail so maybe this will be better. You can fix it, http://www.google.com/mapmakerGoogle Maps has beenfor quite a while.. If anyone types in our address at Mapquest, Bing or Yahoo Maps it comes up with the correct location.

Once, I can't remember why, I asked for directions from my apartment in North Hollywood, CA to a store about a block and a half away.
