Gores handcuff? (1 Viewer)

Big blow to SF. If Gore DOES go down there's no way they could roll with Alex Smith. Their ground game is part of the reason he was able to succeed.

If anything, Gore is going to be that much more of a workhorse. He's held up really well. The gap in talent just widened and neither Hunter (nothing but a plodder) or Jacobs (coming off injury - washed up) is going to threaten Gore's carries. Gore is going to carry the Niners on his back down the stretch.

They don't want to run Gore into the ground before the playoffs even start. Anthony Dixon is a capable backup and we may finally get to see LaMichael James

The Sacramento Bee confirms that Kendall Hunter is out for the season, adding that his injury turned out to be an Achilles tear.

Hunter won't be designated for return on injured reserve because it's a 6-8 month injury. Frank Gore's change-of-pace back will be replaced by some combination of Brandon Jacobs, LaMichael James, and Anthony Dixon. As of now, there's no obvious handcuff for Gore's fantasy owners. Rookie Jewel Hampton is expected to be activated from the NFI/reserved list for depth

meant to type Dixon, sorry my goof. :bag:
Gotcha. Makes a lot more sense.

I just posted in the 49er thread about the possibility of seeing James with Hunters injury. I had no idea that Hunter was done for the year though. I think we will definitely see the rookie very soon. Im not sure if he should be considered Gores handcuff, but he instantly becomes the 2nd best healthy RB on the team IMO.

Edit to fix stupid autocorrect

Yeah, I think that James may see a big bump in usage here. Jacobs is just not very dynamic at this point. Obviously, the switch to Kaepernick has shown that the staff is willing to mix things up at this point. James and Kaepernick played a lot together in the preseason, too.

James getting two carries a game would be a big bump in usage. I hope we finally get to see something out of him.

So isnt LaMichael James hurt or did I just assume wrongly that the 9ers would be smart enough to at least get him a few touches per game this season?!

LaMichael James would be my guess as he could be the change of pace back that gives this offense the most versatility. Jacobs and Dixon are power backs and just do not offer the upside to the offense. Just my opinion.

He hasnt been hurt. From what Ive read several times this season, the 49ers just havent come up with a way to work him in, and have been content to take their time with him (as well as their 1st round pick, Jenkins). With Gore and Hunter playing well (and Dixon and B Miller having small roles and playing them well enough), he just hasnt had an opportunity yet. With Hunter out, I think we will see him pretty soon.

Per RotoWorld:

According to teammate Anthony Dixon, the 49ers have rookie RB LaMichael James "doing Percy Harvin stuff" on the scout team."I watch him every day on the practice field, and he’s making plays, going up to get the ball," Dixon said. "They have him doing Percy Harvin stuff when we’re playing teams like that. ... I feel like he’s going to come in and make plays." James was a Harvin-like talent at Oregon, thought he caught just 51 passes in three seasons. As an elite athlete in the 49ers' creative system, however, he'd be worth a gander in PPR leagues if he replaces Kendall Hunter as San Francisco's change-of-pace back. James has yet to be active this season.
hmmmmm . . .

And he hasn't been active or got a touch all season because????Honestly doesnt even make sense to me. I like LMJ, but they used a 2nd or 3rd on him IIRC and dont even have him active all year??

:goodposting: I'm beginning to think we can't read too much into rookie usage under Harbaugh, Aldon Smith has the making's of a HoF'er and he's the only one I'm aware of in his two classes that saw anytime his first year and his role was still limited last year.
