Gotham - a show about Batman without any actual uhhh...Batman (1 Viewer)

I still have 12 episodes from last season on the DVR...worth watching or just delete and jump into season 2?
I would watch them. I think it got better as the season progressed.

There were some stories that were blah, but overall I think it was better.
 watch but make it quick!
Just ignore the Fish story lines. I think if they cut out her crap (so as not to spoil it, there was a point at which she could have/should have easily been gone), the end of the season might have been 1 episode shorter, but much, much better.

So, season 2 ep 1, rise of the villians......

Not sure what to think but get the feeling there will be way to many story lines and too many villians and not enough time/cohesion from week to week.

That dude is a pretty good joker.
He is, but I'm not sure I am liking where this is going. I didn't really want this to turn into Batman that quick. I really liked it as a cop show with the mob and stuff and now it is a little silly. That scene with the bus was ridiculous. Somebody beeps and you just stop and sit there while they run out with guns? The bus driver just needed to go left and drive since they weren't even blocked. Also, don't shoot at the bus? So, you just let them light the kids on fire because you don't want to accidentally shoot them. Uggh, that was an awful scene. Also, the whole bust into the precinct with shot guns in hand and no one notices? Pretty sure every cop knows all other cops in there. Not a single one gets a shot off, but the riddler is able to save his girlfriend. Don't even get me started on Jim hitting the guy really hard to the head with a pipe and not even a budge. Sorry, but even Bane didn't just take a shot like that and not flinch.

Maybe I am thinking too much, but I miss the police show. The serial killer that grabbed Barbara and the mob fights were so much better IMHO than this.

It's a comic book show. It's all stupid.

I like the scenes with the kid joker. Rest of it is meh.

Yeah, but I thought it was much better last season when they stuck to the mob/cops/crime and mixed in the Batman stuff not forced all the Batman stuff and Fish (hated her) stories. I like the Joker kid and at least they killed the guy that eats women. Oh well.

I'll agree but you need to suspend disbelief with these shows.I'm no expert but hitting a bus covered in gas with a bullet, seems like it could be a bad idea.

Well, we were warned going into this season that it was going to be the 'rise of the villians'.

1. How will they top an episode in which they wiped out a bunch of cops, including the new commish?

2. On the other hand, I can also see a sort of slow burn coming with Jerome taking over the gang for himself.

3. The Russian Roulette scene was cool, though I was expecting Jerome to turn the gun on the other guy, espectially after he took two more pulls of the trigger.

4. Wondering how the events of this episode will affect Nygma. On one hand, he's gone around the bend already, but on the other, it seems he should carry out his own vendetta against the Maniax.

The bus scene was too much like scenes out of Batman Forever. Loved Jim Carrey as Riddler but the movie was bad. This had a similar feel.

Like Jerome and glad Harvey is back in the fold, but seems like they are moving too fast toward Batman. I agree with posters above missing the mob/cops/crime feel. But will watch to see where it goes.

I might be in the minority but so far I'm enjoying this season a lot more then last season..

Might have been the "Slow crawl" or Fish but there were points last year where I couldn't wait for a show and the season as a whole to end.

So far this season, at the end of each show, I'm thinking "CRAP that's it!! :kicksrock: " ..

I agree. Definitely doing a better job of keeping me invested.

Definitely true this week.

1. By killing Jerome?

2. Maybe not.

3. OK

4. Missed nygma on this episode.

Is Jerome really dead?

Much better episode. I didn't care for the police station (it was almost like no one was gone this week though) and school bus scenes. I liked the magician scene a lot better. Not sure I like the head evil rich guy. His acting was terrible in the news show, but killing Jerome made up for it. I wasn't expecting that.

So was Jerome NOT the joker?

I totally ruined the ending for myself as I was watching the last few minutes and decided to look up the actor who played Jerome to what else he has been in and I immediately get articles on Google talking about his surprise end. Oops. He would have made a great Joker.

:lmao: Missed by that much.

The last shot of Jerome seems to imply that he's at least the face of the Joker; whether or not he's really dead is hopefully still up in the air. I kind of hope he's only mostly dead, as I recall a scene from the episode before this one in which he was pulling at his face, giving a possible explanation of how he ends up with a 'disfigured' face, and if he's dead, that theory dies with him.

This kid would have a made a good Joker, but watching him grow into the Joker we know would kill the mystique around a character that doesn't even have a 100% canon background or origin story. That's part of what makes the Joker great. I think its way cooler and more in line with the real Joker story that years from now some sicko will adopt the mannerisms, psycho laughter, and even trademark stretched sneer of dead Jerome, who by then will be just a footnote who had one bloody rampage in a city that will see many more before Batman (and the real Joker) comes into being. Maybe this guy in the future even has access to a photo of Jerome on the slab in the morgue, and that leads to the grotesque clownish makeup and hair with what seemed to be a slight green tinge.

Regardless, I think it was brilliant to fake us all out like that and preserve the mystery and future threat of the Joker character, it was too early and too detailed even if the kid from Shameless was doing a great job. Nobody saw this coming, and at the same time they make you think and build the mythology of this prequel Gotham city and what inspired the real Joker later. The idea that this shadowy, amorphous psychopath in the future looking for an identity to terrorize Gotham with would fixate on a little-known kindred spirit from the past who was on the verge of similar "greatness"...I think that's a pretty clever idea.

You think so? He was trying way too hard, IMO, as I feel his performances were forced and way over-acted - even though the role was The Joker. His performances didn't draw me into the role as it should have, but distracted me because it seemed like an actor who was trying way too hard.

I love me some Michael Chiklis and I like how he's playing a "clean" Vic Mackey here with military overtones.

But...where the hell has this guy been? For the longest time, we're led to believe that Gordon is the only "moral" GCPD officer. And suddenly, you have this guy who has been, well, somewhere all this time.

I hope they flesh out where he's been as the season goes on.

Part of me thinks that Galvan somehow got Barnes into the role of Captain, to give Gordon a 'kindred spirit' that can be used to keep tabs on/exploit him, but since Barnes' connections to the academy seem legit, maybe he's just been working elsewhere. I guess that's what's making this season fun to watch right now.

Liked the scenes with Nygma, but I'm kind of unsure why they're going the Green Goblin route with him by having his reflection talk to him. He caught a lucky break when Ms. Kringle wasn't turned off by him talking about the voice inside his head, and it makes me feel bad for him down the road, in that it will probably work out that just as he's getting what he wanted to be happy, it's going to be taken away from him and push him over the edge to becoming the Riddler full-time.

Didn't like Penguin not turning Victor Z. loose on both of the mayoral candidates instead of just the one. When Penguin went after the female candidate himself, I was actually talking back to the TV, saying "Why didn't he send Victor?", and it was enfuriating to me when Victor did appear going after the other guy, and what's worse is that they missed a chance to show him carve another notch in his arm if he had killed the female candidate. I had never heard of him before this show, but he's such a bad*ss that he's grown on me.

Can't wait to see how Penguin beats Theo. This show is great at making you root for bad guys sometimes and giving you lots of bad on bad storylines.

I like the firefly story progression. Camren's been killing it as a young catwoman. By making the new firefly female, young and from a similarly tainted street life, it fits right into how the show is portraying her (catwoman) with how she's already reached out to those similarly situated as herself (Young Ivy).

Don't think it's a spoiler, but meh. Might be some people reading the comics.

Alot of similarities between her and firefly and her comic relationships and feelings toward some of the other female 'villains', like poison ivy. Although they bounce around as being friends/not friends a bit, I think most writers take their relationship to being pretty close.

Good lord, "Tabitha" might be hotter in the little black dress than she was in the leather.
Even hotter this week. Sadly, she's on the wrong team and likely won't be with us much longer.
She is amazing and making me forget how much of a smokeshow Barbara is.

Not digging the new police captain, though. He just comes off as a neutered Vic Mackey. Nothing more drove that fact home when he actually admonished Gordon for going rough on criminals. Le sigh.

Don't disagree, but for me it adds to the uncertainty of of whether or not Galavan somehow got him into that position to give Gordon a 'kindred spirit' that can be used against him.

I'm probably parroting something I read but can't recall at this point, but I'm liking Gordon being the de facto Batman in the story.

Was hoping to see Nygma get to enjoy his success a little longer before it was taken away, but I guess it made sense that he ends up sabotoging himself by killing Ms. Kringle.

Still not liking Penguin not turning Victor loose to do all this dirty work for Galavan. I guess the point is that Penguin has to do all this stuff personally.

Poor, poor Butch. Victor re-conditioning him was credible, Penguin chopping off his hand and sending him to Galavan was credible until the very next episode, and now Tabitha has re-conditioned him again. To me, if they mess with Butch much more, they'll risk turning all the the harm done to him into cheap comic relief. He'll be Gotham's Wile E. Coyote, sans the Super Genius.

Ugggh.. What a stupid plot this week.. "Hey, I know it's a trap, but I'm going any ways".. Oh.... what's that??? the trap worked??? and they got Lea also..

But it meant more Barbara time and that's not a bad thing. ;)

Plus there was the riddler piece (running into Penguin) and Galavant working on his Bruce deception.

Yeah, of course they grabbed the doc and did it off screen so we don't have to see them blow through the police station again. Love the unlimited bad guys, so many to defeat any police brigade but nobody to protect him from arrest? Also, Galavan's sister is powerful enough to take a bullet, take down a 6+ foot gangster weighing 250 or so, pull a whip fast enough to take down and knockout a policeman and Barbara can fall 50 feet and be fine, just a neck brace.

They've gone way too cartoonish and silly this season. I didn't like the Fish story line but the mob/police stories were better than this Galavan run.

Meh. Just reenforced that Gordon doesn't give #### and will do whatever he wants. Barbara summed him up pretty good.

Cartoonish? Maybe you mean comic book-y? Well, it is suppose to be that. The hardest parts for me to let go are how great of a shot she is with her gun except when it is aimed at a top character.

No, I think of comic booky as Marvel type stuff where you know there will be super hero type abilities. There was a lot of good drama in this show but having a sexy girl manhandle guys twice her weight or Barbara falling from two big stories up and having a sprained neck. Heck his partner was unconscious and looking really bad after getting crushed by an 18 wheeler but he's up and all good. Barbara was able to hop right out even without a seat belt. Might explain her super healing and able to fall 40 feet. Most normal dramas she'd have died twice in that episode.

I liked the show more as a cop show with Batman characters than the cartoon it has been lately. For instance, I like the serial killer episodes where Barbara turned crazy, but the Galavan stuff has been meh.

Far and away the worst episode in the series.

"Hey, I'm going to blackmail you to sell me your company so I can go in and clean up all the corruption!" - BRILLIANT!!!

Gotta love the perfect letter toss right onto the fire. Thank goodness for his special forces butler who didn't even move when Galavan tossed the evidence.

1) The blackmail part, I'd go with Bruce is a kid who wants the answer to his parent's murders. Kids might not be rational in that decision but in the end he was.

2) Both were apparently looking toward Gordon at that point. Gordon and team not reacting to evidence being thrown in a fire is a bigger head scratcher.

They at least addressed it: "there's a fine line between extortion and negotiation". I do wish that Bruce would have ultimately turned the deal down based on that though.

Then you don't watch a lot of Marvel stuff.
