Tracy Morgan was on BS Reportgreat Godfather joke(read in Tracy's voice)"I was doin a movie with James Caan. I walked up to him and said I was a big fan of the godfather. I love Sonny Corleone, even though he was a hothead. He would been alive if they had EZPass! Sonny would still be alive if they had EZPass!!"

I find myself reading more Grantland than just about anything else lately.Well, that and David Ubbens's daily links on Big 12 football news. The podcasts are great. I only skip the Hollywood Prospectus podcasts, which are about shows I don't watch and music I don't like.

Shane Ryan had some nice ideas about how to improve college basketball games. I especially liked his suggestion to decrease the number of timeouts allowed and I'm happy to see someone else arrive at the conclusion that some of our bigger sports are way overcoached.Without wanting to sound like a soccer apologist, which I'm not, being a free flowing contest between players is certainly one of the significant ways that soccer is better than American football and basketball.

The Most Hated College Basketball Players Of The Last 30 Years Tournament

The regions are "80s", "90s", "00s", and "Duke".

Gut reaction is Laettner takes the title, but he is in the toughest region by far.
I'm not a fan of this at all. What if you put every Big 10 team in the tourney together in the same bracket? Or every BE (RIP) team from a couple years ago? It really minimizes the impact of a power conference/team to ensure they only have 1 team in the FF.

You really hate Simmons. It's just something stupid to pass the time.

I'm all for this, I just don't think Duke should get their own bracket. It minimizes their douchey player legacy.

 I don't think it would be as much fun if you knew the Final Four was going to end up being Laettner/Hurley/Ferry/Redick.

Jimmer must be in the NIT.

eta: Never mind. I'm messing up my decades.

Funny -- my daughter is 9 years old, and just finished reading the first harry potter book. We watched the movie over the weekend with some of her friends. At dinner last night, someone said something about Hermione being a goodie-two shoes in the first book/movie, and how they seem to just tolerate her. I said something along the lines of "Hermione definitely goes to duke when she grows up." I got blank stares all around.

Some coaches today in that mold still feel like they have to call timeouts in endgame situations because most players had high school and club coaches who coached the game that way, and it's tough to get the players to adjust. There's also the hassle of having the answer "Why didn't you call timeout?" in the postgame presser if the team loses.
I certainly believe that much of the micromanaging at the end is because of press and public scrutiny. Coaches don't get criticized for calling timeouts, even though it might be the wrong thing to do -- see Michael Weinreb's Feb. 20 piece on West Liberty coach Jim Crutchfield for an interesting perspective on pace and timeouts. It hadn't occurred to me that so many coaches have been doing it this way for so long that kids today don't know anything different. It seems pretty stifling to me and one of the reasons for scoring being down so much in college ball. More coaching doesn't necessarily equal a better game and I could make the same case for football in another time and place. On an unrelated note, I see that Andy Greenwald begged off the Walking Dead reviews, and others, like John Lopez this week, have been great filling in.

How does giving Duke their entire doosh bracket diminish anything?

Because Hurley, Reddick, and Laettner would probably win 3 brackets.

Laettner vs. Hansbrough in the final. Mateen Cleaves makes it to the 90's finals in the most shocking upset of the tourney.

Right!
But it's funnier this way!

 least favorite 90s non-Duke player is easily Cleaves. LJ as a #2 seed was a surprise - didn't know there was hate for him. I found Juwan Howard to be more annoying than Jalen Rose too...

I can't hate Laettner that much because when he was accused of being gay at Duke, he then schticked up the gayness just to get a reaction. My kind of guy.

Hansbrough wins this thing 100%

he has the dubious honor of being my least favorite player in both the NCAA and NBA.

He's been tweeting through one of his alias accounts. Definitely suspended

What do I get for cracking the case??
While its weird that he's not tweeting on his main account, I don't think this is evidence that he's been suspended. What about his tweet on the alias account is different from normal? He's tweeting out a link to his podcast.

This is the first time that he's done a new episode of The B.S. Report without announcing it on his main Twitter account.Something's up.

I'm an ACC guy and I never hated Tyler Hansborough nearly as much as somebody like JJ Redick. Didn't realize he was hated that much.

Surprised Simmons puts up with that. He would be extremely valuable on the writer open market.
Money talks, and I am sure Simmons makes more from ESPN than he has from any other job ever, so taking his medicine here is probably worth it to keep his job. But this must be killing him, considering how much he loves hearing himself talk.

SI just named him the most powerful member of the sports media. I'm sure he'd have plenty of suitors if he wanted to leave ESPN.

Most definitely. Especially with Fox, NBC and CBS firing up cable networks and retooling their sports sites.

Is any other network really going to give him any more freedom, though? Maybe Fox.

If he wants to make a lot of money, he's going to have corporate masters to answer to. There's not much getting around it.

Other companies would probably give away the right to exercise control over his twitter account in exchange for his website, podcast, and tv traffic.

nice comment below: "ESPN - where we embrace debate, unless it's about how terrible we are."

Has anyone read the piece by Brian Phillips? I just finished it, and it was incredible. I actually thought the way it incorporated multimedia, and the writing itself, was better than what the NY Times did a few months ago with their avalanche story.
