Who has left ESPN and gotten bigger? Not a lot of names. Craig Kilborn comes to mind. Olbermann had his moments for a little while before he imploded. Michael Irvin is front and center on the prime NFL Network shows....and that's about all.

Conversely, guys like Rob Neyer and Les Pasquarelli faded off into Bolivia.
Rich Eisen?
How about Robin Roberts.

Jim Rome isn't doing badly for himself if he's really making $25 million a year

Kevin Frasier is probably more successful at this point as host of Entertainment Tonight

Edit: With his NBC Sports contract, Elliott will make $4 million per year but a six month non-compete clause prohibits him from appearing on NBC news related programming.[16] In March 2015 he joined NBC News and Dateline NBC.

So there's another

It's a short list. Two names that come to mind are Robin Roberts and Erin Andrews, but the list of faders is a lot longer.
I would take into account there haven't been quite as big of names leaving recently like Olbermann, Simmons and Cowherd. Maybe Erin Andrews, but she seems to be doing just fine for herself covering MLB, NFL and College Football for FOX as well as Dancing with the Stars on ABC.

Same point I wanted to make. The people who have left ESPN haven't been nearly as "big name" as this recent exodus. Which, reading between the lines, is ESPN doubling down on its development and programming in the face of potential financial crisis. They're just shifting to a lower cost model and betting they can still have the same draw, even as revenues go down a little bit per unit (so to speak).

Jim Rome was a star long before his ESPN show.
Chrissy Everett would beg to differ.
Was that on ESPN?

I guess when I think of Rome, I think of his radio show, not ESPN.
Yeah...back in the 90's before his radio show was syndicated he had a show on ESPN (maybe ESPN2 that came on either before or after the Roy Firestone show. I don't want to say the Chrissy Everett stunt made him, but it certainly put him on another plane of notoriety.

The $25 million dollar figure is from Cowherd who I assume would know what he's talking about since he was in awe of the figure, but maybe he's wrong.

I can't imagine ever thinking "I really need to know what Rome thinks about this sports topic" but I suppose there are a lot of bros out there.

Rome's one of those dudes who (still!) bangs on Tiger for ####### around on his wife or girlfriend or what have you. I literally can't think of anything less exciting that's even tangentially related to sports.

I have no idea why I'd ever listen to him other than that there's a supply of opinion being shoved down my throat by a major network while I'm too tired and burnt out to touch the remote.

It's not even comical, it just sucks.

It's beginning to look like ESPN is giving up on everything but the bro market, too. The guys who will watch Skip and Stephen A. and who think Grantland is a lot of fluff.

I just wish that ESPN would get back to what they're really about, their roots. You know, arm wrestling, lassoing, miniature golf championships. That kind of thing.

I'd rather watch log rolling or dirt track racing than somebody talk about a game that happened yesterday

Australian Rules Football, Motorcycle Ice Racing, This Week In The USFL...
The firemen competitions were always good: climbing up a tree/hoisting buckets of water/carrying a hose up five flights of stairs.

ESPN Classic was the most pointless station ever.

Classic PBA bowling!

Classic Bull Riding!

Classic Pool and Billiards tournaments!

Do you think that about any talking head?
I really like Simmons and Sal. They watch a lot of ball and they're not stupid. Plus they have fun.
I like Simmons and Sal because they are stupid. It's a great change of pace when you don't have analysts trying to out think or analyze the other. Just billshutting about sports and trying to find the betting angle and eventually failing like everyone else.

I actually would enjoy seeing classic PBA bowling.

But yeah, I rarely watch ESPN now, with the exception of NFL. Sportscenter was on at the car dealership last week and it's pretty bad.

Sportscenter is no longer about the highlights of that days games or the box scores. It is all about the talking heads now. You used to be able to get a feel for the game and get some relevant stats from that game. Not so much anymore.

It's more Good Morning America with sports highlights instead.

They'd rather spend 5 minutes breaking down tweets than spend 1 minute on game highlights

I haven't watched SportsCenter in years.
