The Wesley Morris one gets into it more than the Jacko and Cousin Sal ones. Basically ESPN forced Grantland to rely on its own self promotion and word of mouth (46% of their hits came from people entering the site by using grantland.com) to get page views than #####ed and moaned when it didn't produce revenue.

Some of it sounds a little like sour grapes, but I had to laugh when he was reading the ads since the ESPN honchos said no one would pay for them. Meanwhile he's reading ads on his new stream and knew that Carolla was as well.

It sounds like the relationship was irrevocably harmed by the second season of NBA Countdown and then his first suspension. Once that happened it was only a question of when he would leave.

I remember an old podcast with Carolla explaining to Simmons about how he knew he had "made it" when he didn't have to read the crappy ads from Stamps.com/Buy Gold companies anymore. So I had to chuckle when Simmons read advertisements Stamps.com and a cheesy home security company.

I'm didn't grow up a Pats fan (I do however respect and enjoy the Pats and do not run around obnoxiously yelling "cheaters") but feel like the podcasts are a touch rusty at this point.

Doesn't mean that I don't like them though. I thoroughly missed the Cousin Sal Mondays.

Yeah, apparently it was never profitable so it sounds like this could be not-good if the talent gets drained out of the place.

As a comp, Carolla says he makes $5mm per year in ad revenue. Dunno if Simmons is going to be able to net that much right away, but who knows. Or maybe his star fades a bit away from ESPN?
