Is there a Grantland at ESPN without Simmons? I only go there to read Grantland and the soccer section. Oh, and the ombudsman columns. What do y'all read at ESPN? Don't you have people you read regularly elsewhere?
I only read some of the baseball columns on ESPN or John Kiem's articles about the Sklins on ESPN. I definitely read Grantland way more than ESPN.Is there a Grantland at ESPN without Simmons? What Mike and Mike did today was absolute garbage. I would say I lost respect for that show, but I never had it. http://thebiglead.com/2014/11/06/mike-golic-on-bill-simmons-lebron-comments-he-grabbed-a-headline-which-is-something-i-know-he-loves/ …

For an ESPN Radio show to pull an interview out of context from another ESPN Radio show, then play the moral authority card, is disgusting.

Have the balls to call me to discuss it on the show. Don't pull it out of context just because you need fodder for a segment. Pathetic.
Simmons is 100% in the right here. My guess is we'll get an apology from Golic (and that they'll draw it out and invite Simmons on for ratings purposes). This will be fun. Greenberg is a pretty big tweeter. I wonder if he will respond on twitter.Hoo boy...

Agreed, I just read about this on TBL: http://thebiglead.com/2014/11/06/mike-golic-on-bill-simmons-lebron-comments-he-grabbed-a-headline-which-is-something-i-know-he-loves/Simmons is 100% in the right here. The main thing is him saying he has no respect for the show. Definitely the biggest on ESPN radio.Simmons is 100% in the right here. Does anyone? They remind me of Leno on The Tonight Show in the later years. The main thing is him saying he has no respect for the show. They have money and real writers (e.g. Howard Beck) now.How long before Simmons is working for Bleacher Report?
The ombudsman's piece was pretty good, again. Lipsyte is a thoughtful guy, sees lots of shades of gray in the universe. He had very reasonable criticisms of both Simmons and ESPN's journalism ethics.Simmons followed that line of tweets by taking a quote from the ESPN ombudsman out of context. So we come full circle.
Except for the fact that Simmons rarely is a journalist. The ombudsman's piece was pretty good, again. Lipsyte is a thoughtful guy, sees lots of shades of gray in the universe. I had no intention of connecting the two but I can see where my wording was confusing. Of course Simmons isn't a journalist. The ombudsman's observations were more general in nature about ESPN's journalism conflicts of interest when so much of what they televise they also "cover."Except for the fact that Simmons rarely is a journalist. The ombudsman's piece was pretty good, again. Well ok then.Len Pasquarelli is an American sports writer and analyst with The Sports Xchange and a 25-year veteran of covering the National Football League (NFL).The Sports Xchange is a network of professional, accredited reporters and analysts who cover each team or sport full-time.
You'll have to excuse Woody Hayes for being so awful. Being dead for 27 years can take its toll on even the best of men.Bojang0301 said:When have M/M or any ESPN journalist ever attacked another ESPN journalist? No one says #### about how awful Jamelle Hill and Woody Hayes are or about the #### they say to grab headlines. I understand Simmons is disliked by a lot of people but c'mon. He didn't even say he was tied to what he said "I hope it doesn't turn out like this". Low blow attack by ESPN's choir boys.

There's a video (with the sound bite) with the article linked to above. To my ear, it sounded a little more personal and less lighthearted than it did when I read it first. What Golic said, did it sound worse when he said it than when I read it? Because reading it, it seems like he just disagreed with Simmons take, and ribbed him a little for liking attention. For Simmons to say he has no respect for them makes it seem like he's just looking for a fight.
everybody seemed to agree that Golic was the one out of line here.I love that Mike & Mike had to publicly apologize to Simmons but Simmons did not have to publicly apologize to Mike & Mike.
Golic was certainly out of line, but Simmons also violated the unwritten rule of "Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow ESPN employee".everybody seemed to agree that Golic was the one out of line here.I love that Mike & Mike had to publicly apologize to Simmons but Simmons did not have to publicly apologize to Mike & Mike.![]()
Simmons is notorious for going nuclear over the smallest perceived slight.Being this cranky over misunderstandings isn't a good look for a supposed Everyman.
His may be the gifts of wit and creativity but he is also burdened/blessed with the characteristics of the classic Type A. He has mentioned his hyper-competitiveness in the past and there is a price to pay for that sort of thing -- it's frequently easy to be an ahole.Joe Summer said:Simmons is notorious for going nuclear over the smallest perceived slight."Good%20 said:Being this cranky over misunderstandings isn't a good look for a supposed Everyman.
