Is there a Grantland at ESPN without Simmons? I only go there to read Grantland and the soccer section. Oh, and the ombudsman columns. What do y'all read at ESPN? Don't you have people you read regularly elsewhere?

I only read some of the baseball columns on ESPN or John Kiem's articles about the Sklins on ESPN. I definitely read Grantland way more than ESPN.

I go there all the time to read game recaps or about player injuries.
Some of the long form stories I like n Grantland, but I am not a podcast fan, I think their pop culture stuff is garbage and I generally find Bill Barnwell full of great stats but incredibly boring as a writer.

Simmons is 100% in the right here. My guess is we'll get an apology from Golic (and that they'll draw it out and invite Simmons on for ratings purposes).

Golic or whoever from the M&M team totally took that out of context and ran with it. Simmons should call them out for it.

not even bothering with his Cousin Sal or his BS Report anymore, which i really loved.

The ombudsman's piece was pretty good, again. Lipsyte is a thoughtful guy, sees lots of shades of gray in the universe. He had very reasonable criticisms of both Simmons and ESPN's journalism ethics.

When have M/M or any ESPN journalist ever attacked another ESPN journalist? No one says #### about how awful Jamelle Hill and Woody Hayes are or about the #### they say to grab headlines. I understand Simmons is disliked by a lot of people but c'mon. He didn't even say he was tied to what he said "I hope it doesn't turn out like this". Low blow attack by ESPN's choir boys.

I had no intention of connecting the two but I can see where my wording was confusing. Of course Simmons isn't a journalist. The ombudsman's observations were more general in nature about ESPN's journalism conflicts of interest when so much of what they televise they also "cover."
What Golic said, did it sound worse when he said it than when I read it? Because reading it, it seems like he just disagreed with Simmons take, and ribbed him a little for liking attention. For Simmons to say he has no respect for them makes it seem like he's just looking for a fight.

Not a huge fan of either Mike and Mike or Simmons, but this is the most interesting thing Mike and Mike have done in 5 years. They do that show on autopilot, it's the same schtick over and over again.

Golic was certainly out of line, but Simmons also violated the unwritten rule of "Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow ESPN employee".everybody seemed to agree that Golic was the one out of line here.

His may be the gifts of wit and creativity but he is also burdened/blessed with the characteristics of the classic Type A. He has mentioned his hyper-competitiveness in the past and there is a price to pay for that sort of thing -- it's frequently easy to be an ahole.Joe Summer said:

Mike Golic was in the wrong here. He never apologized for going after Simmons personally either (likes to "grab headlines"). On top of that he made mention of being blasted on twitter to get sympathy for his own actions. Mike Golic is a pure vanilla lightweight. Simmons writes insightful and sometimes hilarious columns (not to mention his podcasts) while Golic hosted that awful sports blooper show. One is not like the other. Golic can not interview anyone without slobbering all over them and asking questions that we already know the answers to.

The new HST on making coaches eligible for the Heian is pretty good. Almost as good as the Florida State fans on social media who don't quite grasp the concept of HST.
