Graphic Design Help - FBGs Needs YOU (1 Viewer)

Truly shocked and flattered to learn that I won this thing. Lots of great entries. If there's one thing I've learned in my brief tenure as a graphic designer it's that you never know exactly what is going to work for a given client. A friend of mine in the business told me once that if you submit three desings to a client, they'll always pick the one you like least. That kind of frustration seems to be par for the course.

To all the haters ( ) complaining that my design didn't require much thought or effort, let me just say that you'd be surprised, and that I submitted such a simple design for a good reason: I thought that it might win. 150 pixels square is not a lot of real estate and a lot of detail can get lost at that size. There were some very creative entries in this contest but I knew none of the ones with a lot of text or intricate details stood much of a chance due to these limitations. That said, there were several entries that I preferred to my own designs, and if I were judging this contest things could have turned out differently. I am hardly a great designer but I am learning as I go, and this has indeed been a learning experience for me. Many thanks to Joe and Co. for the opportunity!

Yeah, I think if you polled individuals, there would be a wide variety of winners. That's just the way it is. Congrats!

Some great feedback in here... Any comments on my first submission?

I like it. I don't know why, but I like a football field as a background instead of the blue. I think the football field makes it instantly recognizable when you are looking at a page of icons. You could fade it the same way though. Also, I agree with the post above that "FBG" isn't necessary, maybe a picture of an iPod on the laces, instead of the FBG would work?

No problem at all. I think my favorites so far are yours and braven112's. I like the fancier, more picture like ones.I don't know why I am hung up on the football field, but I just think it is pretty much a universal symbol that any football fan would spot from a mile away. I guess I just picture a sea of icons and that as a FF guy, I would pick that football field out immediately and check it out to see what it was.

Do I get an honorary good suggestion award, maybe like a $1 off the subscription?

Congrats to the winner and runners up. Wish I had the creativity.My personal favorite was this one. Might use a little tinkering here and there, but I thought it was pretty unique.

thanks bro... I thought they would have liked a style following their original work, if the original submission thread was around you could see how many times people clicked on mine vs. some others...it makes me a little sad to lose, so I appreciate the complement immensely...thanks again, ~J

No problem! I guess the immense swelling of pride in my head (yes the one with the face) is enough.The joy on my kids' faces when I told them that my "football field" suggestion was of use was almost like Christmas morning all over again.

Just got back from vacation. Congrats to the winner(s). There were some really great designs here, I'm sure the judges had a really tough time. drpill made a good point about clients often choosing graphics you wouldn't expect. While I thought drpill's entry was good, to me, it seemed almost identical to what they already had. I thought FBG wanted a brand new logo, and it seemed to me that this was the same logo with just a faded football field as the background. Cool, but not really all that different than what they had already.

But like drpill said, you never know what the client will want. And he obviously thought a lot about it when designing it. The simple design is totally FBG's style, and he remembered that.

Kudos to you, sir. Enjoy the greenback and the lifetime subscription!
