Pants factor into the lack of masculinity today too.

I see these dudes walking around with skinny pants that are so tight that they might as well have been part of the yoga pants thread (R.I.P.).
It is constricting their #### and thus not allowing the testosterone to flow into the rest of the body. Gauchos obviously don't have that problem.

If you listen to the arguments, masculinity is toxic period. It's not that it's only toxic when taken to the extreme like in pro football.

There is revolt against masculinity right now. We are seeing a portrayal of men as useless and unneeded in society on a large scale from Hollywood. That is such a bad message to send. The statistics are beyond rock solid showing what happens when men are not around to raise children, male or female. I honestly have no idea how the world got this so F'd up that this is an actual thing.
Bump? Did you ever come up with someone who actually thinks this?

I can help you a bit, the radical feminist Andrea Dworkin was very much in the masuclinity = toxic camp, to the point where (I might be wrong about this), she believed that all sex was rape. But she's been in the ground for awhile, and every woman I've ever talked to about that particular point (all of whom I'd consider feminists) thought this was utter hogwash.

How are we gonna defend masculinity and Christmas man, it's a war on two fronts. Oh, and don't forget whitey!

Who is actually saying this? List names and links. You're taking an extremist view and characterizing it as a mainstream view.
How about the American Psychological Association. Is that mainstream enough?

And I quote:

The main thrust of the subsequent research is that traditional masculinity—marked by stoicism, competitiveness, dominance and aggression—is, on the whole, harmful. Men socialized in this way are less likely to engage in healthy behaviors.

I bumped it as well...

That article also delineates between "traditional masculinity" and "modern masculinity", noting that the further over you are on the spectrum, the more likely you are to engage in some unhealthy behaviors, such as not seeking professional medical help, drinking too much, etc. etc. It's not saying that being uber-masculine is inherently bad, that article's positing that research shows that people who consider themselves uber-masculine often engage in unhealthy behaviors. Which, I mean, yeah.

Missed this thread first time around.

The masculinity gap is more toxic than the wealth gap in this country and the combination of the two will make the coming century impossibly ugly. America is rehearsing tyranny with almost every current societal trend.
