Greatest college WR you ever saw (1 Viewer)

Torry Holt, NC Stateprobably over-influenced by a single game at Baylor in 1998
As a Baylor alumnus, honestly Holt and this game were the first thoughts I had. Holt was 11 for 255 yards and two scores. BU still won 33-30My favorite BU receivers to watch were Dominique Zeigler (w/ the 49ers) and Trent Shelton (bounced around the league Skins, Colts, and Seahawks).

The first time I got DirectTV, Moss was in college at Marshall, and I had the sports package with all the local sports networks, and tuned in early in the year to check the hype. It was one of the few times when man-among-boys really applied. My buddies and I started tuning in every week, and literally laughing out loud.

He did look like a deer--being chased by garden gnomes. We also used to make the comparison to Scottie Pippen playing vs. our local high school.

You're probably a younger guy like me. I'm 25 so I didn't get to see some of the aforementioned play in college. I just remember how pure of a receiver Fitzgerald was. His body control and hands, he looked like a polished NFL receiver playing against high school kids.

Would have to say Fitz, but I always liked Bobby Engram from Penn State back in the mid 90's. Saw Devin Hester play Temple, but he wasn't a receiver at the time, so don't know how good he would have been.

I'm 35 years of age. Therefore, it hard for me to go too far back, but Charles Rogers was the most impressive college WR on my TV.

Yup, bumping my own post. I just read some of the other choices. Ironically, Rogers was listed 1/2 dozen times. Man, such a waste of talent.

Since my team plays in the SEC there are alot of WRs that I can't remember them all. For my team it was probably Sterling Sharpe or Sidney Rice.

I will also probably see a pretty good one this weekend in AJ Green.

I'm pretty young so my experience doesn't go back too far. Off the top of my head I'd say Mike Williams (usc) and Calvin Johnson. Williams was spectacular for his age. If he played 3 or 4 years he'd be the best.

Herman Moore
thisMoore to Moore
Remember the game he just destroyed Ken Swilling? The game of the year was an awesome shootout; Moore had something like 10-250-2, and most of those spectacular grabs over Swilling. It was amazing...and even better, the last ball thrown to him was intercepted by GA Tech to preserve a 41-38 win *(they won the national title that year).Nobody knows who that is now, but he was the consensus best DB in the country; made EVERYBODY'S all-American team as a sophomore and junior ('89 & '90). 235 pound safety that ran a 4.41, he was going to be the next Ronnie Lott. For Moore to humiliate him like that was a jaw dropper.Got hurt bad his senior year and was never right again, didn't stick (think Falcons and Pats gave him a shot).

Mine is Anthony Carter - U of Michigan When I was a kid ( 10 - 12 ) he was my all time favorite player - I loved watching Michigan just to watch him play and I grew up an ND fan.. He didn't translate well to the NFL due to lack of ideal size - He did have that 1 great playoff game against Frisco in the 80's to knock them out. After him yeah you guessed it BMW - maybe the best freshman WR ever or at least I recall hearing about. Had a great soph season as well. Unreal catches.
:goodposting: First player that came to mind before opening the thread.
Same for me. I was thinking Anthony Carter, the only Wolverine I ever liked. But Moss was sick.

:sadbanana: :( I loved A.C. as well growing up, one of my all-time fav college players, along with Billy Sims. Before I clicked on the thread, that's the guy I wanted to specifically mention as I didn't think he'd get much love. But I gotta put 3 guys at the top of the list as the best I ever saw. 1(a). Larry Fitzgerald1(b). Randy Moss1©. Charles Rogers

He's not getting mentioned, but if anyone saw Sterling Sharpe at South Carolina, dude was pretty beast mode.

He wasn't exactly playing world beaters, but by his senior year, Jerry Rice was putting up games with lines like 18/275/5.

Got to see him on the TV machine twice that year.

I'm a season ticket Oklahoma U holder so that's where my in person comes from. For me, best OU WR I've seen would have been Mark Clayton (although it might end up being Ryan Broyles). The two guys I followed wherever they went while watching a live game weren Rashaun Woods and Percy Harvin.

On TV, Rocket Ishmael, Charles Rogers, and Larry Fitzgerald would be tough for me to choose between.

Cris Carter dominated when at Ohio State.......and if he didn't play in D-2, Jerry Rice would be the best no question about it!Honorable Mention....Keyshawn Johnson...also Alworth and Swann from footage I seen looked to be good as well.
Moss college stats:
Code:
Season Team GP REC YDS AVG TD LNG 1996 MAR 15 78 1709 21.9 28 1997 MAR 13 96 1820 19.0 26 90T Total 2 years 28 174 3529 20.3 54 90T
Rice didn't put up better numbers than this outside receptions and did it vs. even worse competition.
Rice put up 112-1845-27 his senior year in 11 games. That's a 132-2180-32 pace in 13 games.

Yeah and in 1997 Marshall moved back up to 1A football so Moss put up his 1820/26 vs. the very best competition. Well it was still the MAC but still the MAC is leaps and bounds better than what Rice was going against. Moss also went against both WVU and Ole Miss that year and posted 13 receptions, 258 yds and 3 Tds in those 2 games alone. Moss was more impressive, no question.

Not in person, but my first thought is Moss. Back in the day, I was mainly getting my sports fix from the 10:00 local news. They run down the local scores, then scores from the Big10. Randy Moss is the only player I can recall they specifically showed highlights for on a weekly basis up to that point. Yes, it was against subpar competition, but with what he's done in the pros, he would have done the same thing at ND or FSU.

For those saying Crabtree, I agree he's a special WR. His TD against Texas will live forever, but that TxTech system was designed to elevate WR stats into the stratosphere. If Moss were in his place, we would have witnessed untouchable records.
