Dobbins, the backup ILB, is actually a pretty big upgrade in run defense. Big, strong guy. However, that is the one and only thing he is better at than Cushing. He and the other ILB- Bradie James are not very athletic and not good in space. I'm not sure if they'll put Barwin on TEs or in coverage (seeing as they don't even need him to rush the QB with Watt leading the league as a 3-4 end) but if they put him in coverage on TEs that advantage will be taken away from the offense. He's 6'6 and very athletic and pretty good in space. If they keep him in pass rush most of the time, then Finley or DJ Williams will have their way with the ILBs all day.Not so fast on Houston for the running game. With no Cushing in the middle, I would bet that a strong rushing game is the way to attack the Texan defense up the middle and try to avoid the pass rushing onslaught of JJ Watt. Green may surprise this week vs. Texans.
I agree. There was a play, maybe in week two, where Cobb took a hand-off off and took a pretty good shot. He was dinged... but came back in the game a little later. I recall thinking that he wasn't wearing as much gear as a RB and couldn't pull that off too often.'CletiusMaximus said:I don't really understand the reason to compare Green to Cobb. Cobb has had a handful of snaps in the backfield in each game so far this season, but that's no reason to compare him to the putative starting RB, perhaps unless you're just talking about a flex option. Cobb had 44 snaps at WR last week, and I expect at least that many today with Jennings out and Finley banged up. He also has an important role as a kick returner. I expect to see lots of Cobb today, but not necessarily at the expense of Green/Starks. The Packers running game in general will probably be MIA again today as most expect them to be chasing the game from the beginning.
Nope.Who has more value with the injury to Benson? I know Cobb isn't a RB per se but does his value increase more than Green's bc of this injury?
While the YPC wasn't great, the volume is what's encouraging. You have to think he will break a few long ones and have 100 yard games with an occasional TD.I found it amusing that the announcers mentioned multiple times how good Green looked and yet he ends up 22 for 65.
I am encouraged by the fact that Green seemed to be "the guy," but I'm not sure why one would have to think that he will break a few long runs. Just because he gets carries doesn't mean he will break "a few" long runs. I'd love to see him do that, but I don't think it's something that we can rely on, especially considering that he's never done that in the NFL.While the YPC wasn't great, the volume is what's encouraging. When your QB is shredding the Texans defense for 6 TD's, it has a way of opening up things for the running game. A young RB like Green, with some burst could probably expect the occasional big game in this offense and it atleast a decent flex play every week.I am encouraged by the fact that Green seemed to be "the guy," but I'm not sure why one would have to think that he will break a few long runs. He had a 41 yarder in his first 10 or 15 NFL carries. Thought he was pressing too much last night instead of reading things well, but also thought he looked dangerous early in the game. Broke a few tackles and had a nice burst a few times. Looking forward to seeing what he does going forward.I am encouraged by the fact that Green seemed to be "the guy," but I'm not sure why one would have to think that he will break a few long runs. I understand that, but just because we want him to be able to do that, doesn't mean he will be able to do that. There are countless NFL RBs who can't break off those long runs, because they aren't fast enough, don't have the vision to do so, can't make the cuts necessary, etc. I'm not saying Green can't do it, but the post I responded to say "you have to think he will break a few long runs." But he wasn't able to score on it. Look, I hope Green will become the bell guy, who is able to break long runs, score, be a workhorse, etc. I just think we are getting ahead of ourselves by assuming that he automatically will break those long runs, score TDs, etc.He had a 41 yarder in his first 10 or 15 NFL carries. He obviously can break off a long run, he had a 41 yarder. The worrisome part is that outside on that run he is 33 for 89 this year and has only catch one pass. It seems clear that he is going to get the opportunity and does look decent at times, but if I had him as anything but a match up flex at this point I would be concerned.I understand that, but just because we want him to be able to do that, doesn't mean he will be able to do that. He is getting the lion's share of the carries, so in that aspect, I'm satisfied. I know he had the 41 yarder, but I didn't see that game, so I don't knwo the situation. Was it a 3rd and long? Percy Lite. I don't see Green Bay giving him 80 rushes, including a few goal line carries, but I think they offer similar versatility and have similar roles in the passing game. Either way, Cobb is a top 10 receiver (6th in points, 8th in PPG) in my yardage-heavy league that offers bonuses for returns (Harvin is 2nd and 3rd in the same system), and Cobb isn't seeing my bench again unless and until Rodgers stops throwing his way. I'll be starting him over Miles Austin the rest of the way.Cobb is gonna be Percy 2.0.
Green blows chunks on blitz pick up. He almost got Rodgers killed (again). That is why on third down, Kuhn was in the game.Things I found encouraging:1) 22 carries - Pretty encouraging GB would give a new starter this many touches. Shows commitment by the Packers to run the ball and at least try to keep defenses honest. Otherwise teams will just stay with Nickel/Dime packages.2)Stayed in the game to pass block - I was actually expecting to see more of Kuhn (is he hurt?) to pass block but GB seemed fine with keeping Green in the game to protect Rodgers.3)Solid first half - 9 carries for 36 yards is respectable. I think any Packer fan would be happy with 4 yds/carry from the run game. 2nd half Green regressed a bit running the ball 13 times for 29 but I'd be curious to see how much base defense Houston played in the first half versus second half and what impact that may have had on production.4)Goal line / Red zone - I was actually shocked to see Green get a carry at the goal line. Not sure if this will continue but it's nice to see GB at least entertain the idea of giving him carries down there.Overall I don't think it's crazy to see Green can get 15 to 20 touches per game for 50 to 80 yards and maybe .25 TDs which puts him in borderline Flex/match-up starter in my league. The issue will be if GB goes with the hot hand week to week and gives those touches to Starks or Kuhn.
I still hold to the notion that the TE being out/limited helps him the most.I feel bi-polar reading this thread.Cobb is improving as a receiver each week. He dropped a couple of passes this week, but Rodgers went right back to him. Solid WR2 play in PPR if Jennings is out.
