Listened to a podcast he is part of every week, and two of the things he mentioned got my attention. Well everything he says has my attention, but two things stood out.

He thinks Jimmy Graham will fill the role of Marques Colston in the offense. Same type of player, has Brees' trust.

The second thing, which as he said he could be very wrong about, but that Chris Johnson is declining. He will still break some big plays, but his play in general has declined.

Food for thought.

I can see Graham being the main beneficiary of Colston's absence, but I don't see them as the same type of player at all. And I'd be very curious to see his rationale for the Chris Johnson comment. If he based on the first game, that's just lame.

I don't know who that is that made that comment but I absolutely disagree. Obviously someone was only looking up stats b/c CJ's definitely not declining. I paid close attention to that TEN game (have Britt, Cook, Damian Williams, and CJ). His body pretty much spent 3 and a half quarters trying to remember how to play football. He was anticipating hits on some plays, one particular run I remember he got spun around and kind of kept backing up as if waiting for someone to hit him. No one was there and he just kind of got tackled eventually. He wasn't comfortable with contact yet which is normal considering his holdout. Another interesting moment was some screen pass he caught. He went right, nothing there, tried to reverse field and finally just collapsed, conceding the loss of yardage. He was absolutely gassed after all that running he did on that play and Harper spelled him the next few plays. Late in the 4th he finally started looking comfortable though. He was probably still too gassed to take advantage of his speed, but the comfort seemed to show slowly. He looked more elusive in his last few touches in the game.

He's got a few difficult games coming, so we might not see the back to back 120+ yard performances until after his BYE week.

Cosell basically said regarding CJ it wasn't something that stood out on film, more a feeling he has. Adam Caplan seconded his opinion.

I don't know if I can link to another fantasy site? But you can probably google Cosell and Caplan podcast and find it.

It's not just about week 1. He wasn't the same running back last year as he was in 2009.

No one who rushed for 2,000+ yards in 2009 was going to "ascend" in 2010.

Johnson's on a bad team with a meh OL, no other real, dependable playmakers(Britt's not close to reliable yet) and an iffy QB. Not tough to figure out what's going on there, in my mind. Even with all that in '10 he still wound up with 1600 total yards and 15 TDs.

I suppose by definition he is certainly "in decline".....but if 2009 is the standard he's being held to then he only had one direction to travel anyway.

His 2009 wasn't very different, only he didn't have VY but he also didn't have the benefit of Britt. He isn't a better RB than he was in 2009. It's not a knock on him, but I think he'll be a lot like other players people keep drafting early hoping he will have the monster year you think he might - I just don't think he will.

Regarding CJ, the dude just got paid. No reason for him to go out there and give it his all on a crappy team anymore. I've seen this before, players play great to get the contract then sleep once they receive it.

Jeff Fisher using him like he was the second coming of Eddie George the last two seasons couldn't have helped.

"2nd and 10, 26 power...no wait, 21 trap...yeah, they'll never see that coming..."

I gotta bring this thread to everyone's attention again. He was spot on regarding CJ and Graham, at least in terms of production. Cosell is a must listen every week.

I believe Cosell is one of the very best guys at film breakdown around. His tweets before the NFL draft are golden nuggets of information.
