Gronk alternatives - what are you doing? (1 Viewer)

My situation is pretty dire. All of the names commonly mentioned as replacements (pitta, walker, tamme, etc.) were owned in my league prior to last week. Right now I'm deciding between myers, quarless, z miller, m rivera, l paulsen, and ertz. Ugly. Thinking maybe Flynn helps quarless b/c he doesn't have the arm strength to push the ball down the field to Jones/Nelson, but I'm grasping. With cousins starting, also considering Paulsen on the hopes that inexperienced qbs sometimes lean on their tes.

Myers has looked excellent for three straight games. They are likely to be behind SEA and throwing. I see he and Zach Miller about even here and I would feel more comfortable with either of them vs. the other hot mess there.

Very good points. I had rostered myers as kind of my safety option if I didn't find anything to make me fall in love with one of the others between now and Sunday. Seattle should definitely be ahead, and the fact that it's not in Seattle makes me feel a little better about nyg being able to get at least a little something going offensively. As a raiders fan, I am also very aware of myers' ability to thrive as a dump off option in garbage time.

Rivera has the hottest sister, so I say roll with him

I play in a pretty competitive league, so guys like Walker, Pitta, etc. aren't available. Rolling with Logan Paulsen and hoping for the best.

Gronk widow here, luckily dropped Tamme hours before the TNF game and picked up Pitta. Trying to keep my expectations low for Pitta. Though he only played 41% of the snaps last week, he was targeted 11 times which was the most, tied with Brown. If my math is correct, that is about 11 out of 32 snaps he was targeted. On top of that, in a matchup where all of my and opponents players are done after the 4:00 games, it is nice to have at least one primetime player.

Outbid on Tamme (fortunately), and after mulling over Z.Miller, Quarless, Chandler, Gresham, Ertz, Celek, and all of the other bargain bin TE's, I've decided to go with Marcedes Lewis vs. BUF. He's put together a couple of solid weeks, and with Shorts and MJD potentially out, I'm thinking he is well positioned for some additional targets this week.

Ugh. Who could have imagined after Thursday night's game that starting Tamme would turn out to be the RIGHT move for me (alternative was Fleener, who got shut out)?

I'm in the championship next week and totally at a loss for who to start at TE. Tamme has a good match-up, but how could I possibly trust him? Meanwhile, I might be able to overlook Fleener's bagel (it happens, and unlike Tamme, it wasn't a function of him not being on the field) but he also has a killer match-up with KC. It's a 16-team league, so WW options are scraping the bottom of the barrel (Quarless, Lewis, maybe Griffin if GGraham is still out). At TE more than any other position, I'm always reluctant to go chasing last week's returns.

I'm coming around to the view that TE is only slightly more predictable than kicker. Just flip a coin and hope it comes up heads.

the droppof from elite to good to everyone else is huge at te. That's another reason Graham is so valuable.

BTW, anyone who's shopping the WW should definitely keep tabs on the situation in Houston. Daniels may be back this week, Graham is iffy after sitting out Week 15, and Griffin did well in his absence. The likelihood is that at most/all of those guys are available, and whoever the Texans have plugged in there has seemed to produce.

What is everyone doing this week? I went with Lewis last week, and can't complain about the result. Strong chance I stick with him this week if shorts sits out again. My other considerations are z miller (great matchup, but sparse targets lately), quarless, myers (maybe more targets w/Cruz out?), or ertz (I know he saw more snaps than celek last week, but that situation still scares me and it seems like they should want to run against chi).

I might also throw john carlson onto that consideration list if he gets cleared this week. Hard to believe, but cassell does seem like a significant upgrade for that offense when he plays.

Someone in my league inexplicably dropped Martellus "Black Unicorn" Bennett. That's who I've got penciled in, but zftcg's post above is spot on.

I went with Tamme over Pitta and in the end both were duds. Hoping to break the streak this week and am going round in circles on Wright (TB), Heath Miller, and Quarles. It's Miller time at this point.

I know this edges into WDIS/WDIA territory but what the hell, it's the last game and this is what it's all about.

Gronk, Reed and Fleener, and maybe even Clay and Pitta, owners all have this in mind.

This is who I have on my radar:

Quarless - two good games in a row vs poor defenses, has Flynn throwing to him - vs PIT

Ertz - he's really had two good games now, minus the snow bowl in between - vs CHI

Marcedes Lewis - getting looks again with Jax WR options gone - vs TEN

Eifert - Gresham looks like he might be out, now going up against MIN in Cincy

I went with Clay this week and survived, but can't decide if I should roll with him again this week, or try to pick up Tim Wright, who had a good game this week. I usually don't chase points, and from what I hear New England sold out to stop Clay, so I am leaning toward staying put.

In my other championship game, I'm not sure if I go with Clay or Pitta. Both were equally crappy this week.

Anyone like Marcedes Lewis? He has a TD in the last 2 games, but not many catches. Jax is playing the Bills who are a favorable matchup, and just gave up a TE TD to the Bucs.
Possibly another decent start for Marcedes Lewis. He didn't do spectacular vs. Ten the last time they faced, but appears to have become more involved recently.

I think with Shorts out the Jags need an outlet, especially near the goal line, so it looks like he's relevant again.

OK, let's review where we are based on recent developments:

  • Lewis. Shorts sent to IR. Lewis has seen an uptick in targets with Shorts out and has scored in three straight, so that's good news
  • Eifert: Gresham practiced today, which would indicate he's on track to play (and probably kill both players' fantasy value).
  • Quarless: Still unclear if Rodgers will be back. I suspect he plays, but I think it's less clear if that's a good thing for Quarless. Rodgers is obviously a much better QB, but Flynn seems to dump it off more, and Rodgers has never been a big "feed the TE" type of guy (cut to frustrated Finley owners nodding ruefully)
  • Griffin: Schaub in for Keenum. Again, not clear if that's a plus or minus. Also, still no word yet on whether Graham or Daniels will be playing. If either does, this whole situation becomes a stay-away, which sucks because it's probably the best TE matchup out there (unless Miller or Walker are still available in your league)
Oh, and Jordan Cameron apparently suffered a concussion, which probably doesn't affect any of us directly, but could mean that the Cameron owner will be scouring the WW for replacements.

Right now, still leaning Lewis based on him being one of his team's only weapons, and having the best track record of the group (relatively speaking). Quarless second based on being in the best offense. If the other Houston TEs sit, Griffin could creep into consideration as well.
