There has been a fair amount of Rex-bashing and Rex-defending all season long, and especially since the playoffs began. Those who defend him say he has led his team to the Super Bowl. Others say they've gotten here despite him.

So let's just say, hypothetically, that Rex has a miserable Super Bowl game - picks, fumbles, horrible completion % - and the Bears lose as a result of his play. Would this, along with some of the other putrid performances this year, be enough to put him on the bench and give the job to Griese to begin 2007? Or would Sexy Rexy keep the job?

Not even a discussion, Grossman is gonna start all 16 games in 2007 unless he gets hurt. He "helped" get them to the SB, he's not going to sit next year if he has a bad game in a week and a half.

If Manning has a bad game, Ints maybe a fumble "cant win the big game"..does sorgi get a shot next year?

Interesting. 10-1 Grossman so far. Based on some other threads I've been reading, I thought there was a lot more anti-Rex sentiment. This is enlightening.

Anti-Rex sentiment isn't going to put him on the bench next year. Lovie makes that call and clearly Lovie is a Rex fan. To keep running Rex out there after some of those stinker games made you wonder if Rex had pictures of Lovie and some naked 14 year old girls. Nah, Rex is starting next year, even if he stinks up the field in Miami.

Well, the vote was 15-3 pre-Super Bowl.

I wonder if the sentiment has changed any, now that the scenario actually played out (especially four more turnovers - plus his pre-Super Bowl admission that games are confusing and a blur to him at times), so I'm bumping the thread.

Sometimes we have seen a team that thinks it really has something special with its current group of players make a big splash to land the "final piece". The Ravens, after winning the super bowl, acquired QB Elvis Grbac from the Chiefs. That didn't work out too well. But its possible the Bears might decide they've gotta get a proven QB from someone.

The irony is that the perfect trade here is for the Bears to acquire Bret Favre. Favre is almost done, and could play in Chicago for a shot at a title once more, and the Packers get draft picks. But they are such rivals it would never happen.

AFter his play lastnight, one has to wonder. I say they stick with him. I kept thinking we'd see Griese lastnight. He couldn't have done any better. I think the Bears at least have a punchers chance w/ Griese in there. W/ Grossman, that game was over at halftime.

Grossman sucks. All his passes beyond 15 yards are floating rainbows that can be knocked about by the wind and which give defenders a chance to close. Also his reaction to any mistake is to get happy feet in the pocket. Its amazing. I've seen guys get happy feet when they get beat up, but Rex does it after any mistake, it doesn't need to be a play where he even received contact.

I've had the same thought.

I'm not a Bears fan and I have no bias for or against Grossman, so I hope I'm projecting an unbiased account of Grossman's play. I've seen parts of numerous Bears games, but I don't follow them as closely as some other teams. Grossman started the year making a lot of big plays down the field. As is typically the case, defenses began to adjust, taking away the things Rex does well. I don't think grossman handled these adjustments well. He continued to force balls into coverage and did not go through his read progression effectively. He did not check down nearly enough and take the 5-7 yard completion that was there. In order to be a truly effective NFL QB sometimes you just have to nickel and dime your way down the field and sustain drives. Grossman does this poorly. In the playoffs, Grossman made some nice throws against the Saints and Seahawks, but still makes far too many mistakes. Against the Colts, Grossman did not adjust to the conditions. It was embarassing to see him stumble around and throw numerous ducks. I think the Bears have "maxed out" with Grossman at the helm. This is as far as they will go with him. Griese, while unspectacular, makes fewer mistakes and forced throws, which is why I feel he gives the Bears a better chance to get back to the Super Bowl. The other pieces are in place; a good defense (great defense when all are healthy), superb special teams play, and an excellent coaching staff, to make another title run. i just don't see Grossman as having learned from his mistakes, as he makes the same ones over and over again.

Interesting...

15-3 for Grossman pre-Super Bowl, even given the assumption what did happen would happen.

18-6 to this point against Grossman post-Super Bowl, now that it actually has happened.

All even at 21-21.

That says to me that people who voted before the game hadn't seen how truly bad this guy could be, and seeing is believing. Either that or Bears fans are in mourning and not visiting the thread after the game.

Rex may be raw and look bad at times, but Griese is putrid.
:goodposting: Griese is a back up for a reason, he is not as good as Grossman. Remember the back up QB always looks better than the starter on the sideline.
And sometimes the franchise has too much invested in young Q.B.'s who are high draft picks or who have recieved large contracts. Sometimes the best player at a position on a roster doesn't start. There are battles between coaches and GM's and owners, and economics have an undeniable role.

tell that to Cedric Benson

Rex has played in what, 26 games now total (or something like that) and one of those games was the Super Bowl? The beating this kid takes is amazing.

:goodposting: I can't believe Griese is winning this poll. It will be Grossman, no doubt. They finally got a full season out of him, and as bad as he looked at times, they still see potential for improvement. In the SB, he looked pretty bad on several plays (can't some of the slipups & fumbles be partially due to the rain?), but I was at least happy to see that he completed 20 of 28 passes.Colts are the better team and they deserved the W. Good for them. It's not all Grossman's fault like many are trying to say.

Griese is horrible. Bledsoe is available and I'm for damn sure Bledsoe would have won that game last night for Chicago.

The poll is flawed. "Somebody else" should be a third option.

Out of those two, stick with Grossman. Griese is the pits. Grossman looks clueless to me but there's still some room for improvement and the Bears still need to see what they can get out of him.
