Gruden Frustrated With Joey Galloway (1 Viewer)

Tampa Fl resident and 7 year Fantasy Footballer here. Even if Galloway is on the field the only other relevant receiver is the brittle and often injured Ike Hilliard. In watching the teams last pre-season game I noticed that Bryant had 3 catches for about 50 yards with the first team offense. He also was targeted in the end zone once.

I'll say this ignore EBF's analysis at your own peril. This is the one of the best values at WR this year especially in deep and start 3WR leagues!

Bryant was supposed to be a sleeper in Cleveland. Wasn't.Was supposed to be a sleeper in SF. Wasn't.Now he's supposed to be a sleeper in TB? Sorry, no.
Thank you. He's a career 2 for 20 FF disaster. When I reflect back, I actually get nauseous thinking about how many times I plugged this stinker into my lineup waiting for the always dangled & never delivered "breakout".
Some guys take longer for their head to catch up with their talent. Bryant was young (20) when he came out of Pitt. His last 2 NFL seasons were 1,009 yards and 733 yards. He's still only 27. The skill is there. If he finally has his head on straight, I'll take my chances with him as my WR 6.
Good post. I don't think anyone is taking him early like those other years. I got him in the 17th in a 14 team, start 3 WR league. Other guys drafted in that area were WRs like Will Franklin and Jacoby Jones. I like my chances of Bryant out producing those guys, and if he doesn't he's WW fodder. No big deal.

Bryant could be a nice sleeper either way. Galloway hasn't practiced all offseason and he's not exactly a young buck these days. There's definitely opportunity for a WR to step up here.
The Bucs do annually lack deep WR talent. Bryant, based on talent is a great sleeper. yet, he defies logic in how much of an idiot he is, much like David Boston. I'm not ready to buy, esp. under Gruden. Edited to say, the reason they have questions is because of choosing players like Boston/Bryant/J.Stevens.

Maybe so. He's entering what would be his prime, so I guess we'll (you will) find out. To me he's dead weight, I'll never draft him again. Of course that's the kiss of fantasy death, cursing a former player who has flamed you repeatedly, only to watch him blow up on someone elses roster after you've cast him into the heap!Good luck.

I hear the old man is practicing but you've gotta believe he's gonna struggle early with the amount of time he's missed with his QB. Groin injuries tend to nag older guys and he has an Eric Moulds kind of feel to him in that this could be the year Galloway fades away.

And I followed the guy while he was at Pitt... he ran terrible at the combine, but the guy is a far greater physical talent than a football player....Simple as that.
I don't know if there's much evidence to support that claim. You initially compared him to Tyrone Calico, an unproductive WR who was drafted in the 2nd round out of Middle Tennessee State on the basis of his height and speed. I showed that Bryant's career is in no way comparable to Calico's and you countered by saying that it's his Madden measurables that make him an attractive pick. This is odd because one of the big knocks on Bryant coming out of college was a lack of ideal foot speed. Yet now you're saying he's a better physical specimen than football player. This doesn't add up with what I know about him. He won the Biletnikoff Award as a sophomore and left Pittsburgh as the all-time leading receiver in the program's history despite only playing two seasons. If he was merely a physical specimen then I don't think he would've been so consistently productive throughout his football career. It's fine if you don't like him, but your justifications for your opinions don't seem to have much basis in reality. Bryant has always been a good football player plagued by inconsistency, weak supporting casts, and personal turmoil. He has shown the ability to produce in the NFL and he's in position to re-emerge as a relevant FF player. Whether or not he can keep his act together remains to be seen, but I like the upside he offers as a late pick.
First - I compared him to tyrone is that he was a sexy preseason hype pick that perpetually didn't pan out... I think the comparison in that respect is spot on...Secondly - He ran a slow 40 at the combine.. i am aware of that... you refer to his big knock - which was simply a reiteration of that point. He came out of College a 'prototypical sized WR' with huge athleticism who had a bad combine, and dominated weak big east Db's throughout his career at pitt. If it makes you feel better.. I was also dead on that Kevan Barlow was a sorry excuse for an NFL prospect and had no business becoming the feature back of SF... a poor mans Donnell Bennett. If it makes you feel better, then I'll say he isn't good NFL WR... i could also say he is a better physical specimin than a football player, and that would also be correct... if you want to draft him in the 15th round and delude yourself in thinking you are a hero...go ahead. But his chances are no better than Stovall or Clayton to do anything in that offense.
