Gruden on Caddy (1 Viewer)

Take it for what it's worth as we know Gruden has a tendency to sing his players' praises, but here's his latest on Caddy.

(On his running backs)

“[Cadillac] Williams is a great back. He is having a great camp. Last year he had a back one day, he had a rib the other day and another back strain. This year he is totally healthy, and he is making some wicked cuts. I’m really happy with the progress that he has made in the passing game, not only as a receiver but as a protector. It all starts there with him. If he’s Cadillac Williams, we’re going to have a heck of a running game and be a much better offensive football team.”

After last year's debacle he'll make somebody look smart for drafting him as their RB2 this year - ala Kevin Jones the last year; or, maybe he'll just suck. The man destroyed my squad last year...

Comeback Player of the Year front-runner IMO. He took the brunt of the blame for so many other problems in that offense other than himself and people are sleeping on Carnell.

I'll believe it when I see it. Gruden is the head driver on the Caddy bandwagon, partially to support his "franchise" back and partially to make himself look better after he's invested so much in pumping up the guy.

Don't know what to think - except that I'll only believe it when I see it (for the whole season). I didn't have enough faith in Caddy - traded him in a deal to get MJD. That deal could go either way and define my season. Even with Gruden's comments, I feel much more comfortable with MJD.

HE did start over Brown at Auburn and looked very good doing it and sent Jacobs to S. Ill. He has all the talent one needs to do well in the NFL. If his offensive line plays up to par he can have a very good year. Wonder if he will stay on the field inside the three yard line this year at all? Let not forget how good he looked in year one those first 8-10 games. I still like him best as my #3 RB is if can possibly get him there.

Translation: "I"m going to run the guy until he's injured like I did before."
I agree with this. That good be great news for Cadillac owners or he could end up broken down again. With Gruden's job on the line he is going to run Williams as much as possible.

I wouldn't consider trading Caddy for MJD to be giving up on Caddy as much as its just a great deal in general

can someone name me a RB that had a year like caddy did last year but bounced back to have a successful nfl career in the years to follow?

He was my top player in the 2005 class. I still think he has the ability to be a Curtis Martin type if he can stay healthy. There's no question in my mind that 100% healthy Cadillac is a quality NFL RB.

How about two! Lamar Smith was an average and mediocre RB for most of his career when he suddenly became a FF God in one season with Miami leading many to a FF championship that year. Another? How about Priest Holmes. The guy had a few chances with Baltimore when their starting RB went down back in around 1998 (I know because I had picked him up in my league, watched him and then got rid of him BEFORE his enormous career in KC) and didn't do much with them which is why Baltimore let him go the following year. The rest on Holmes I am sure you are familiar with. That's two off the top of my head but I am sure there are more. :)

yep. I'm in a coma over it..wake me up when he reaches 1000 yards , or when averages over 4.0 per carry , or when he scores more than 6 TDs this season..

otherwise, I'm going back to sleep on Caddy...

sorry my question was poorly worded.I wasn't talking about a tough rookie year or an established player having a down year. I was talking about a RB that's needed a few years to 'hit'. Tiki is a good example. Tjones is in the same vein, although you could argue about the success of his career. Just seems very rare...

He helped ruin my season last year so I personally would only touch him as a RB3 this year (if that). He was just flat out too inconsistent each year. One game of 150 yds and a TD, the follows it up with 11 carries and 13 total yards...Not something I want to deal with again
