Guys who are Shot: 2009 (1 Viewer)

Zito and Wang are obvious choicesedit to add: They would be great as pitchers for the All-Star HR derby.
Wang's in his 20's and he's got a .750 win percentage over the past 2 1/2 seasons. I know I know, wins have become a meaningless stat, but you don't win at that rate by accident. What ever it is with him, he doesn't have lower gears and when he looks bad, he looks REALLY bad, as we've seen. May well be shot, but I'll go with the 2 1/2 year sample over the 2 game one.Zito on the other hand, he was shot in Oakland. That playoff game when he outdueled Johan was worth conservatively 35 million dollars to him(probably took him out of the 75 mil total value to 100 plus)
Joe Magrane was showing some split screens of him from last year and comparing to this year. His leg kick was way lower and his mechanics are off as well. Not sure thats the total problem but the numbers seem to indicate so.

Not having the protection of Manny Ramirez anymore ain't helping Ortiz, either. Let's face it, he benefited greatly for years by having one of the best hitters of this generation hitting behind him. Why do you think Ortiz was the one player on the team last year who did NOT want to get rid of Ramirez?
This, not the juice
The idea of protection in the order has been clearly refuted. Ortiz is a late bloomer slow power hitter and most of his kind fall quickly. His decline has nothing to do with Manny.
That settles it.
All about keeping it simple and direct.

Gary SheffieldCan't catch up to a 91 mph fastball anymore.
Yes, he has to be a publicity stunt at this point. The sad part is, he used to have 1 of the quickest bats in the game. Now, no chance he bats .200 this year.
I'm having a hard time shedding a tear for him though. Sheff has been one of baseball's class-A D-bags for years now. I HATED it when he was on the Yankees.

I think Finless has dead arm. Whether its career threatening is still left to be seen.

Scott Kazmir, I hate to say. No life in his fastball, he'll still be an effective MLB starter but he's looking more like a #3 right now than the number #1 we'd all thought he could be. Not shot, but probably shot based on the profile of where he was drafted from a fantasy perspective. Price better come and come fast for TB, as he or Shields could both fill the mix of #1 and #2 guys.

I targeted him this year thinking he'd come around. Bad mistake. I've already moved him in one league and I'm hoping for a good outing vs Cleveland on Friday so I can move him in my other league.

Papelbon - done
You aren't funny. I guess when you swing and miss so often, it's easier to make a joke out of something you clearly dont understand.
Okay, thehornet. Have you watched him pitch lately? He loads the bases then bails himself out. Huge Red Sox fan here and I don't like what I've been seeing at all.
Yeah, I watch every game. I live 5 minutes from the park. Is he pitching well? No. Might his shoulder be hurting? Yes. Is he cooked/shot as the thread says? No. Just like you said Carlos Lee was shot earlier in this thread.

It is a long season, everyone has ups and downs. Even Paps.

Now, if you want to say Ortiz is shot. That we can agree on.

Brad Lidge is not done, but his knee is not right and it's screwing up his mechanics. Hopefully any Lidge owners also drafted or picked up Madson.

Has Derrek Lee been mentioned yet?
In Lee's huge year he laid off most lethal inside fastballs and tagged the ones he could hit. Now he can't hit most inside heat and swings at many of pitches up there he can't hit. It seems his bat speed has slowed down tremendously. As the result of the inside half being a disaster, he lunges at the outside half. I don't see a upswing at all despite the fact that DLee is the type of athletic player that typically ages well.

I mention him every single time I watch a game. "Get that slow batted juicer outta the lineup and get Hoffy in there," I say. I hope he turns it around (somewhere else) because he's a great guy, but I think he's done. He'll never be a 40 HR (or 30 HR) guy or a batting title guy again.

Batting title? 30 HR? as a Cubs fan I'd be happy with .280/20 HR at this point.

I be stunned if 300-30 happens again and would not be surprised at 270-15 type talent.

They'll get 270-15 out of Hoffpauir this year for about 12 million less.

Hoffpauir would probably be Lee's equal if not better in AVG and SLG but also would probably have a much lower OBP and a slight downgrade in defense. Clearly, Hoffpauir is the better bargain but I am sure it would be hard to move Lee at this point. I just hope when Lee is fully healthy, they move him away from the middle of the order. He is a #6 hitter at best right now until he shows any signs of his former self.

BJ Upton's slow start is disturbing....considering he does not have the biggest track record

But..Cmon... David Ortiz....he is FRIED

Ortiz left 12 men on base today during a tied game. He's cooked. Bring up Lars Anderson.
:thumbup:Unfortunately they will never do this.
Benched for the weekend.
I like it, but I still just don't see Francona doing anything about this long-term. He usually sticks with the veterans far longer than anyone thinks he should. Most of the time he is vindicated, but I don't think it'll happen this time.
