Hacked and I want revenge ! (1 Viewer)

Well, maybe. I woke up this morning and saw 2 e-mails in my inbox, one confirming my order from Walmart.com for a new video card or something, and a second saying the transaction was denied due to information that didn't match. Apparently, some jagoff tried to order something with my billing info and it got stopped - hallelujah for that.

Now, the confirmation e-mail for the original order shows the name and shipping address that the order was placed to deliver to. Brief research shows me that the name is Malaysian/Indonesian in origin and the address is some sort of science/engineering lab on the campus of Florida Atlantic University. I shot an e-mail to Walmart.com's customer support and asked them what my recourse is as far as pursuing action against the hacker and they ignored that and responded by deleting my payment information and canceling my account and telling me if I ever want to place an order again, I'll need to register a new account with a new e-mail address and a different credit card. Awesome. Not really that big a deal, I can't remember the last time I ordered something from Walmart, but it is helpful sometimes for in-store pickups so I don't have to hunt for #### in those cavernous stores, and occasionally for birthday/Xmas shopping for my nieces and nephews.

So, what's my recourse here? I assume the only real answer is to forget it and move on, but this kind of crap really irks me. I'd like to strike a blow for identity theft victims everywhere by driving down there, finding the kid and kicking his ### all over the campus, but I doubt anyone capable of pulling this off is using his actual name. I'm 100% the authorities aren't interested, so what do I do? Release the name and address here and sic the FFA internet hounds on him? Drink a beer and remember that Walmart sucks and I don't really want to buy anything from there anyway? Climb up to the roof of my building weep silently as I whack off into the parking lot?
******* works at Walmart.

Get a Walmart box. Send it to his address. Then see what he does when he gets it. If he's like a kid on Christmas morning, beat him like the opposing school's mascot.
In my younger years, I definitely would have sent a box of #### to that address. Likely with some sort of propulsion device to make the #### explode out of the box when opened.

I Googled the address -- https://www.google.com/search?q=901+NW+35th+st+US15RM0009+Boca+Raton%2C+FL+33431&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

It looks like its actually a freight forwarding service located on the campus. They grab it, and then send it on another plane. The guy doesn't live there.
Damn. Contacting the school won't do any good. There's ####ing nothing I can do here. Man, it makes me angry that these guys can do this with little to no risk.

You can still mail him stuff

Just use the exact information that you have. The one number is his customer ID.

You know, you're right. You're absolutely f###ing right.

Only issue is that the things I send him will probably get stopped at customs and never delivered. Have to think here.

This was a reshipping scheme. A retired old lady lived at that address and got a job online. She was simply to recive packages at her house and slap on shipping labels to forward on to a former soviet republic, i forget which one. She was being scammed too and didn't seem to realize what she was doing fully. She even had to pay for the shipping upfront and would get reimbursed later from her new employer. Of course that never happens as they just ignore her. Apparently this is a common scheme and they prey on the elderly who are tight on cash and try to find online jobs.
people who do this to broke elderly folks should die a slow, painful death.

Is that the sole raison d'etre for these places, to do exactly this? Would my reporting him to them do any good?

At least notify the FBI. If they look into it, I'm sure they can check this bedabug.com account to see how many packages were forwarded, where they went, etc.. I doubt anything will come of it, but at least you will have done your part.

ETA: any idea how your CC company figured out it was fraudulent before they canceled it?

Does the email/password combo at Walmart matches the same email/password combo you've used at other sites? It's pretty simple to grab a list of username/passwords from one of the recent hacks and then retry them at major sites until you find one where the mark didn't change their password.

Your best course of action is to work on securing yourself. Unfortunately the FBI will not likely get involved and local police are clueless on these matters.

Something about information not matching.

Probably. I used to have the same or similar sign ins for just about everything. I've changed the bulk of them, but as I said, I rarely use this account.

I mean, you were going to do this even before you got hacked. It is Monday after all. Why stop now?

If you mail him stuff, include threatening correspondence and an email address that you create at the local library imo.

I highly doubt this is even a remote possibility, but what about checking with Walmart and seeing if you can get the last IP that logged into your old account? Guessing there's zero percent chance that they'd release that info, but couldn't hurt to ask.

All I know is that this fellow absolutely messed with wrong person. I pray for his soul.

One of things I seriously love about this forum is stuff like this. EG72 and I are the same age and have been here for about as long, but we hardly ever post in the same threads. He has interests, and mine generally lie elsewhere. But I'm still very familiar with his body of work, and I would not wish his wrath on my most hated enemy. It was worth having his Walmart account hacked just to see how he responds. This will be epic.

I had someone do this to me. Somehow got into Walmart.com and ordered a TV in a store in San Antonio for in-person pickup. ####### store wouldn't cancel it when I called them since it was already processed. Unreal.

So I did my best to keep the guy from getting his ill gotten gains. On the site there are spots to fill in for who can pickup; the dip#### put his name in there as the alternate. I kindly changed it to:

First: ####### Thief

Last: Please arrest me.

Funny enough the TV never got picked up and the order eventually got cancelled.

Also, I find it interesting that Walmart was the only place to get hit and reading on the old 'net that seems to be a recurring thing. They have some issue with their site that they're not letting on.

Well, I contacted the forwarding company and told them they have a thief using their services to move stolen merchandise. Going to wait a day or so to see if they respond before deciding on the next move.

It most likely is not Walmart. It is almost always insecure passwords or passwords that get reused on sites that got hacked. The "hackers" (I hesitate to call them that) get lists of cracked accounts and try them until they find one's with saved CC#'s. People (including me at times) are so cavalier with reusing passwords, even when they know they shouldn't or when those passwords are protecting things like accounts with CC's associated.

There are legitimate hackers who are the ones that actually find their way into sites and download account usernames/passwords, but they rarely actually use the accounts they find. They sell them and then just buy their stuff legitimately.

Had someone hack into my bank account about a year ago...spammed my email with about 12,000 messages to hide the transactions, I guess...still dealing with the spam. They were able to transfer $500 out before I realized it, but I was able to stop all the other transactions.

Like you, I wanted nothing more than to beat the piss out of this person...but I let it go, to a degree. I would like nothing more than to find this person and take everything they have, but I don't think that's a realistic possibility...guess I didn't let it go so much. More pissed about the spam than the money he/she took.

So, at this point, I can either send him elephant #### or get his parcel forwarding account shut down permanently. Which would you do?

Send him poo.

Thats an actual service imo. They'll mail it anonymously.
The question is : does it get through customs and actually get to the guy? I know first-hand how difficult it can be to get organic matter through borders. I would never know whether or not it actually reached him as my tracking would end in Boca Raton.
