Hakeem Nicks, WR, New York Giants (1 Viewer)

Not to overreact off of a preseason game, but anyone else come away unimpressed with Hakeem's involvement in the 1st half of the Chicago preseason game? For a player that is being projected as a consensus top 5 receiver this year I would have expected a better preseason showing thus far. I guess we'll see how the Jets game goes next week?
The less established starters are involved in preseason games...the better

Exactly Its preseason, haha who gives a crap what a player does in preseason, it means NOTHING. Why do most stud players not even play in the preseason. They just threw him a bone here and there to make it look good for the camera, I think they know what they got in NICKS, looks like Manningham/cruz were guys they wanted to get good looks at with the departure of S.smith/boss. Don't overreact to this, every year people get all hyped up about Fake football (preseason), most guys don't even wanna be out there man, lighten up

I agree that preseason is overrated for a stud like Nicks.I also think the Giants already know what they have in Mannignham. They let Smith walk away (yes I know he is injured), and Boss walk away from the team because they know they have a legit number 2 in Manningham to play a large part in this offense.Cruz is the one to keep an eye on in week 3 of the preseason and through the first 3 weeks of the regular season. He is vying for playing time and starter reps as the Giants appear to be giving him the first crack at filling the WR3 role for the Giants.

I don't like that Nicks faces Nnamdi twice, and revis in the fantasy championship game, but with all the defensive injuries , got to give him a big stock up. The Giants may be playing catch up a little more than originally thought. He had something like 9.9 targets per game last year (top of my head, correct if wrong), and I think that increases to about 11 this year.

So if he can play 16 games, and get around 11 targets a game, and about 60% of those for catches (61.7% last year), that leads to around 105 catches.

I'll knock a few off that, and put him at 95, all tho 100+ is certainly within reach. I think his ypc end up in the 13.5-14 range. I think they go up a bit from last years 13.3, but don't come close to his rookie years 16.8 ypr, because he has a ton more attention from defenses nowadays. He is also a touchdown machine.

95 rec x 13.5 ypr = 1283 yards. 12 tds.

One thing to never worry about is Nicks' involvement. When he plays, he produces.

I agree. NYG love throwing to their WRs. I think I read somewhere that no team had a higher % of their passing targets going to it's WR than NYG. Their game plan just keeps the WR highly involved. That said, I wouldn't be one bit surprised to see Manningham get more targets than Nicks this year. If Manningham is taking over the Smith role, which it appears he is, then he is going to see a ton of targets. NYG's game plan seems to target that position more than the others (I'm not sure if that is the X or Z in their offense). What makes this interesting is that Manningham, unlike Smith, is a great deep threat. Will they rotate players into that roll in order to keep Manningham going deep. From the preseason action I've seen it seems more like Manningham has just moved into the old Smith role but that may just be to get that work in during the preseason.

Another interesting development after the Monday night game is the Giants defense (especially at corner) is decimated by injuries. Eli may be throwing quite a bit to keep up with opponents hanging points on them.

Nicks will produce top 10 numbers this year. But, so will Manningham and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with more catches and yards than Nicks this year. Manningham will be the steal of the draft this year.

All u have to do is watch the giants play and see that nicks is overvalued and manningham is undervalued. only reason nicks gets more targets is sometimes the giants exploit the size matchup when nicks plays undersized corners and they feed him the ball all day. wouldn't be surprised at all if manningham has equal numbers or slightly better this year

I just gave up good moola for him in a redraft trade. Calculated risk/reward decision.

you must not be watching much Giant games if you think that... I wouldn't bet on that jack, Nicks is by far better then manningham, your nutz egg.

they are the exact same height, try again.

Nicks get more targets because he is a better player. It's that simple.

exactly, who is this thinking he is gonna come into a Nicks Shark Thread and start running his mouth about Manningham being as good as NICKS.. Come on jr. You have to be kiddin me, stay in the kiddie pool, especially if your gonna being in stuff like that. Nicks is stronger, bigger, same height but way more solid, bigger hands, better route runner, jumps higher, more dominating redzone target, hmmmm did we forget anything, oh and a better playmaker. I think every True NY fan realizes this and is content with Manningham in the number 2 role.

Nicks put up WR1 stats last year and he missed like 4 games.

Nicks is going to contend with Roddy and AJ for best WR at years end

Not only is Hakeem Nicks better than Mario Manningham, he is one of the best receivers in football, period. This a guy that DOMINATED last year, as a 22 year old! He's now still growing at 23, and in that magical 3rd year. He saw 9.9 targets a game last year. With the receiving losses, and defensive losses (leading to more passing situations for the offense due to more points giving up-theoretically) that number can even rise. Not only will Nicks have better stats than Manningham, he's on a short list of possible #1 overall wr. In manningham's 3 biggest games last year, Nicks still averaged 5 catches, 80 yards, and .67 tds a game! So even when Manningham does well, Nicks still gets his (games vs dallas philly and gb) With Smith hurt last year, and Nicks was well known as the #1 wr, in weeks 15 and 16 vs two very good defenses in big time games (Eagles and packers), and let's not forget he came back from injury early and was playing hurt, he had 10 catches 156 yards and 2 tds in those 2 games. To me, Nicks vs Fitzgerald/Roddy/Calvin is a debate, Nicks vs Manningham is not, its Nicks in a landslide.

Nicks is so good, he's still scoring fantasy points for his owners 48 hours after the game is over. That's production.
