Happy Independence Day -- Waiting For A Trip To See Fireworks Soon But For Now -- AMA (1 Viewer)

Seriously. Going to see fireworks and saw Making Time by Creation selling Audis.

Which would be crazy but it sells other things, too.

I live on the West Coast.

Right now, nothing. I'm taking the Bar Exam in California this Feb. I keep trying to get jobs in data entry and record keeping and they keep writing me back (which is rare) and essentially telling me I'm overqualified. So I sit. And wait.

Also, I'd appreciate any lawyer help in passing said Bar. I passed NY. I'd like to pass first time in CA, which has apparently gotten harder.

I find that IP is a little corporate, con law is expressly political, and criminal law to be noble all around. I think the people that praise Woz are actually right, but he takes on a tough burden that I'm not sure I could handle.

I was told by a professor that trusts and estates are the way to go. That's it on the employment front, because other than that, I'm not sure what to do.

This particular show? No. I'm not. But if you want to do a show, I'm up for it. I want to see shows around here with people, but I'm a transplant. Hit me up either with an at or a PM if you see something. I think we have similar tastes from what I've seen in music threads. Let's figure out a good show.

Where are you at?

And, as an aside, I've been meaning to read your posts about the wildfires. How is your stuff?

i'm up Sonoma way. likely going to the Flogging Molly show in Sacto, as i don't get to SoCal almost at all. if i do get down there, i'll hit you up.

as for the fires: there's a big one burning over in Yolo Co. right now near lake Berryessa. 83k acres and 25% containment. cool weather today, but warming over the weekend...hoping the knuckleheads around here don't do stoopid stuff w/ fireworks tonight, but people gonna people.

as for Sonoma/Santa Rosa? rebuilding is coming along, albeit slowly. people are still freaked out every time they see or smell smoke in the air, and i'm guessing it'll be a while before that particular PTSD fades. all in all, we're doing ok. thanks for asking.

there's a thread for this, lawyer-guy.

btw- had no idea at all that was your gig. pictured you as a... dunno- barrista or something. in a good way, gb.

how much of a trip do you need to take to see fireworks? or did you mean an internal trip...?

Oh, okay. I'd read about the fires and wondered why you were asking about Flogging Molly in Irvine. I'll have to read the thread. I wish you well, man.

I gotcha, gb. I am basically a barista. Never practiced law, about to start. It's looking more and more inevitable at my age. I'd rather be Floppinho and playing on Parquet Courts' new single. I'm glad he goes to music school. That's just...awesome.

The trip? It's simply down to San Diego to see some fireworks. Meeting up with family. As for internal trips, had enough of those to last me a lifetime. We. grew. our. own.

Enjoy! Nice to be somewhere nice, and with family for the fourth.

Btw... There really is a lawyer thread and I'm sure you'd get some great bar advice in there. No idea why I look in there, but iirc somebody recently passed the CA bar.

Thanks, bud. Yeah, I've been at it with Henry in there. It's basically take BarBri and study for me, though. I just have to make it work. CA is a little different because of Hollywood and certain laws about certification and their stringency.

eta* It might help to seek advice out there. Thanks for the suggestion. I mean that. Huh. We must have Cali lawyers in there that know the workings of the Bar.

the CA archi registration is also pretty different than most (earthquake and energy,IIRC).

there's a guy with a stanford AV.. he's the one that I'm thinking recently took the bar. which I've somehow remembered, but couldn't tell you thing one the wife wants me to do around the apt while she and the kids are out of town this week.

It's like New York. No character issues. It's just registration for the Bar and a cert from your law school. But joining the association is different. It'll take some different stuff. I'm still thinking of taking it. No need to dilly-dally at my age.

Happy 4th, GB. Enjoy your time with the family and good luck on the bar exam.

It's hotter than 12 Hells here today, so I be hunkered down.

Thanks, man. Same to you. Watching the Red Sox/Nationals today, so I can only imagine how hot it is. They're sweating through their shirts.

Why the hell doesn’t the USGA ask Fox to get rid of Joe Buck? Aren’t they aware of his baseball broadcasts?

California bar is all about Bar/Bri.   Having another exam behind you will help.  A lot of the people taking their first one just choke.

Last I heard, lawyer jobs in California were stagnant.   Is that still true?

Think about going to a temp agency.   Easy gigs.

Temecula.

Intellectual Property or Con Law or Criminal Law.
Used to be a dozen of us guys from ND coming to Temecula for 8 day golf trip in March.  Went 8 years in a row.  Price got too expensive & would stop serving a few in our group after 5 drinks in the bar.  Way too nanny like for us, but gorgeous country.   Arizona has been our destination since.

Thanks. Yep. I have Bar/Bri lined up. I think having another exam under the belt will help, but one never knows. I don't know how I passed the first. I called a quitclaim deed something absurd. Scored well on MBRE.

Yeah, I think Cali law jobs are stagnant, but I think they're stagnant everywhere, and I'm just trying to be a legal assistant or paralegal, even.

Temp agencies are tough. Applied to Robert Half, et. al., and got no nibbles. It's been weird. Just want to do an easy job for a while and get paid, but they're put off by my resume. I did government work for some big time people, so they think I'll be upset by their offer. Truth is, I don't care.

But thanks for the advice, -fish-, I appreciate it.

Temecula has changed so rapidly in the past twenty years you wouldn't believe it. My brother's equity has shot through the roof. Wine country is nice, but these are NY prices for rent right now. And as for nanny, it's the most conservative place I've lived, and actually hate it.

Forget that: Give me the East Coast.

My brother wants to sell in retirement and move to AZ. Do you go Northern or Southern AZ?

Phoenix area.  Nice homes for fair prices.  Summers can be brutally hot though.

You ready to be taxed on almost everything?  Why move there?  Just curious.

I’m licensed in CA, NV, WA and OR.  If you’re in Temecula I know a bunch of firms in Palm Desert that may need clerks, etc.  PM me if you have any questions

That's impressive.

PM sent. Thanks for your generous offer.
