Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Book 7 (1 Viewer)

not a fan at all, but I clicked on that link above -- do not read it if you want to be surprised. has pictures of the final pages and everything.
Yep, this will be happening more and more. Just talked to the librarian in town and they got their copies a couple days ago. Nobody would know/care if the local librarian opened the box early so I am sure a ton of small business owners and their kids have the book and have read it already.
 Seriously?

She'd be sued by Scholastic so fast her 99 cats wouldn't know where their 9 Lives Liver and Bacon went.
I did not think private stores/libraries had the books yet. B&N are holding them in their distribution centers... supposedly, for now. It is only Tuesday... if books went out on Thursday night - Friday morning they would most likely get everywhere by Friday night... no?
Don't know if their procedures are different for this one or not, but the last one that I ordered from Amazon.com (I think it was book 4 or 5) I received in the mail a day early. So the mail order places must have them in stock to begin shipping out already.

She showed me the box with DO NOT OPEN, etc. plastered all over it. Since it's Tues, she must've said they came yesterday or this morning. Don't know how common this is though.
That is like giving Pandora's box to a kid in a candy store. Five days with the hottest item that "cannot" be opened is like asking for it to be opened. I just figured the book would be guarded by the higher ups until the last minute.

I guess ensuring that it reaches all the little book stores/libraries in time means that some have to go out early. I'd bet a lot of places get their copies early, it's just the big target places like B&N, Borders, etc.. have the means to guard it more heavily. Everybody else is on the honor system. Shipping that many books overnight and insuring that they are there for the stores to get into their systems and put on the shelf Sat. would be a nightmare.

Nightmare? I agree but a necessary evil for the last book, imo.

I don't think they could risk it. As a small business owner, I'd be pissed if the copies didn't come in time and customers just went down the road to Wal-Mart to buy them. I was surprised that they have theirs this early, but figured everybody would have them on Thurs/Friday so they would be able to sell them at 12:01 if they needed to.

I haven't read through every bit of this thread, but saw this on my Google home page:

New Potter Book May Have Made Its Way to Web

Photos of what appeared to be every page of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the breathlessly awaited seventh and final installment in the wildly popular series by J.K. Rowling, were circulating around the Web today, potentially upsetting the most elaborate marketing machine ever mobilized for a book.

Various file-sharing Web sites were carrying what looked like amateur photographs of each pair of facing pages of the book, which officially goes on sale at 12:01 a.m. Saturday morning. The pictures show the book laid out on a green and red-flecked looped carpet with somebody’s fingers holding it open. Some of the photos make the text difficult to read, but the ending is definitely legible.

:FingersInEars:

Other than reading the book at this point I don't want to know any spoilers ahead of time.

However I would be more than happy to get a head start on reading the book... I have mine ordered from Amazon so I'll get it Sat. morning.

But if the entire book is on the web now, I'd appreciate a link to it, if for nothing else I can knock a few chapters out before Saturday.

If someone would like to PM me a link to the entire book, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

I've read some of the purported leaked book. While the effort must have been extraordinary, I think its a hoax. There are a number of lines that just don't read like Rowling to me. It strikes me as an ambitious (and not terrible) piece of fan fiction that someone (who can mimic the chapter illustrations) had vanity printed. While its amazing to think of someone then photographing each page to post to the web, you have to think this would be one way for a fan fic writer to get his or her work read by a lot of people. If you really need to find the link, you can get the torrent at thepiratebay.

Havent downloaded anything and the only pictures I saw were from Tyler Durden or TMZ of the first page. Read the chapter title but that is it. One of the good things about it is that nobody will know if it is real until Friday night/Saturday morning.

Well, if the real book opens with then we'll know its not fan fiction.

Just to let anyone know. I downloaded the stuff from Megaupload as well and a few days ago Mugglenet.com had the first paragraph on the front page. Something Rowling allowed them to do. The first paragraph from the download is the same paragraph.

About the Megaupload, it is very difficult to read. Whoever did it does not know how to take pictures of a book. Curved pages make it difficult to read near the margins of the pages on the left. The words on each page are really difficult to read. Even with a decent camera the words should be crisp. Sure, they could have not shrunk the file sizes to the size they did but overall it is a poor effort. I could not get past page two, not that I wanted to but it really is bad.

If you want to take the time go ahead, but it does get difficult to read.

Also, the book has the tapings on the cover that a library would put on their book.

That was a link to a paper that has since pulled that story.I could be wrong. I thought the leaked bits of Hannibal had to be bull#### as well, and I was wrong about that.

I'll move some of the things that just feel weird to me to a spoiler tag.

mytagid = Math.floor( Math.random() * 100 );document.write("

Molly Weasley calls Bellatrix "#####."

Harry refers to Dudley Dursley as "Big D."

In a scene involving polyglot potion, Hermione avers that she's sure Harry "tastes better" than Crab and Goyle. The double entendre is acknowledged.

In Sirius' old room, there are nudie posters.

In the climactic battle, Kreacher leads a squad of house elves brandishing meat cleavers and knives and they slice into Death Eater's shins.

In several places, the book isn't just "dark" it's violent.

An early action sequence has Harry escaping from the Death Eaters with Hagrid on a flying motorbike that Arthur Weasley has rigged like some James Bond vehicle.

In the epilogue, one of Harry's kids is named "Albus Severus" which is about the fan fiction-iest thing I can imagine. The entire epilogue reeks of fan fic as every character in the fandom seems to have interbred in some way.

*** SPOILER ALERT! Click this link to display the potential spoiler text in this box. ***");document.close();

None of which is to say its definitely fake. It shows a very thorough knowledge of the universe and pulls together some very arcane bits of the books to build a backstory for Dumbeldore.

Just got done with Chapter 1

Not that tough to read on a good sized monitor (19") with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer zoomed in. In fact it seems to get easier as it goes on.

The writing style itself most certainly feels like JKR... and the images seem very real. THe design and construction of the book in the images would be VERY difficult to "fake" with a fan fiction manuscript. I have VERY little doubt this is the real text.

Don't worry.. I have no intention of posting spoilers. Hopefully others here will respect that as well.

I agree. I am sure that it is the real thing. It is only a few days before release now, and there are millions of these being shipped everywhere.I would have been more surprised if we hadn't seen something like this.

I haven't read any of the posts here...but thought I would post that my coworker has the book on a flashdrive. He has had it since at least Friday, since that was when he asked me if I wanted a copy... I said no, but figured I would post here and see what the FFA'ers had to say or questions I might easily be able to answer......

ETA:

 it looks like there are a few other copies, as I just read the two posts above mine...

Personally I am going to wait to get an actual copy of the book....

Read through chapter 2. Chapter 3 in that file is unreadable and I am not going to jump around and skip pages just to continue.

Sure, the book has been spoiled due to this kid or whoever taking pictures of it but on a scale of 1-10 it is a 2 or 3 in the effort category as the book is partially unreadable. Oh well.

3 more full days until the legit copy is in my hands.

HUGE POTTER SPOILERS >

I have resisted the urge to click that link but apparently there are a lot of spoilers there? I'm sure everyone here will have NO problem resisting the urge to click that link though.

The spoilers are apparently legit as they are from readers of the blackmarket Torrent version of the book

:)
Link doesn't work for me
Be thankful. It worked for me.

Yup. I clicked it thinking it would just have pictures of the book pages--I wanted to see what CNN was reporting about. Lo and behold! Right at the top! If I had the capabilities, I would've reached right through my company's network, through the Web's many avenues, knocked on the front door of his mom's IP address and wrung his little neck. And you just KNOW it was a fifteen-year-old who can't drive yet and has nothing better to do than spoil s##t for other people. Hell, that's what I used to do . . .

About that spoiler webpage... even some of those are not correct. I will not tell you all which ones on the top of the page are not correct but at least one of them is not. I glanced at some of the pages which confirmed in my head that even these spoilers are not 100% accurate.

So, rest assured for now.

Not sure if this is in regards to the leaked book or not but apparently some people have them already.

Well, my wife is one of those fanatics who's having the book delivered from amazon the day it comes out and makes it a point to tell me that I NEED to read the books and that she won't give me answers to questions. So I don't have a problem trying to find someone who will 'spoil' it for me, just so I can tell her I already know how it ends. I wouldn't tell her, of course, it would just be funny to know before her.

With about 36 hours left I am safe to say I have stayed away from all of the spoilers so far... save reading chapters 1 & 2 online and some of the last chapter. The review posted last night I have not looked at and the one spoiler site, I believe on this page in this thread, can be proven inaccurate with what I have read so far.

I think I might go to Wally World tonight just to see if some dumb employees put the book out and see if I can get one. 50/50 shot at that I think. It is difficult to stay away from spoilers as they keep popping up.

And, thank you to those who started a different Harry Potter thread claiming there are spoilers in them. I have not opened any of them and I appreciate that they were put in separate threads.

Do tell !! - PM if needed to not post spoilers. I was wondering/hoping that it was somebody that had a couple of pages, but put "spoilers" on the site to make it look real.

Message sent. Dont know but maybe one of the other threads has more accurate spoilers in it. Supposedly the New York Times article is full of them.

I got a phone call last night from some automated message with a British guy reminding me to pick up my pre-ordered copy. I'd never gotten something like that before, it was pretty cool!

As much as I wanted it to be a fake, the NYTimes review seems to confirm that the leaked version is legit.

I've read about 300 pages or so of it here and there. I've been disappointed more or less in the last two books, but this is the first that I think is legitimately just a bad book.

Just talked to my UPS man, and he said they guarding the pallets of Harry Potter books in their warehouse like they are bars of gold.

He also said that any drivers that were transporting the books were asked to sign a statement saying that they would not deliver them early.

Ouch, sucks for DeepDiscount if they made the mistake of shipping early, that's a great website. I've bought a lot of dvd's off that site.

Once this weekend's Harry Potter hubbub has subsided I might be able to share with you some of the craziness here at work regarding the title and the security measures surrounding its release. (I'm in the bookselling industry.)

Oddball, you work for a bookseller, do you not? Let's hear from you.

It also seems that people are using this to post fake spoilers on their websites to #### with people too. ie, I could load up a couple of the actual pages to make it look legit and then post that Harry marries Neville, and that was the big spoiler JK didn't want leaked early. I guess we'll know for sure in less than 12hours...

Mugglenet is spoiler free unless you read the comments section about the NY Times article. I believe there forums are shut down.
