Harvin to Bills/ Formerly the Harvin to Hawks & Jets (1 Viewer)

Held out of practice yesterday, FWIW.

RENTON, Wash. -- Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said receiver Percy Harvin did not practice Tuesday and that his status is day-to-day.

“We held him out and rehabbed him [Tuesday],” Carroll said. “We’ll keep working through it, but he’s day-to-day right now.” He did not elaborate on Harvin’s situation.

Harvin, who had major hip surgery on Aug. 1 to repair a torn labrum, made his Seahawks debut on Nov. 17 against Minnesota, returning a kickoff 58 yards and making an impressive fingertip catch on a 17-yard pass. Carroll said afterward that Harvin was ‘‘a little sore,” but that wasn’t unexpected for a guy who hadn't played an NFL game in more than a year.
This can only be interpreted as a setback. He's out of my lineup till I actually see him produce in a game. It's crunch time, not many of us can afford a receiver who feels discomfort in the first quarter and gets pulled after a 1 rec for 9 yard performance.

You clearly don't follow the hawks or know a thing about how PC handles his people.... Pete said on local radio all systems go for Harvin. He holds some of his players out of practices every week. See lynch for example.

Uh, wat? He was in there returning kicks at the end of the half and played in the second half as well.

Rotoworld:

Percy Harvin (hip) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Coach Pete Carroll admitted the Seahawks are going to have to manage Harvin's reps for the remainder of the season. He's in no danger of missing Week 13 against the Saints on Monday night. Harvin is a borderline WR2/3 this week.

What kind of line will he post this week? I see several projections around the 4 or 5 catch mark with 50 yards. SEA is averaging 25 pass attempts per game which ranks 21st in the league. That seems to me right around what his floor should be any given week. Is there upside on this team for him to get 10+ targets and have some monster games? I guess we won't know until we see it actually happen.

He's a big play guy - he can have a monster game - I'd say he'll be a better version of Tavon Austin from here on out.

Floor - 4 catches 50 yards

Ceiling - 6 to 7 catches for 150 and 2 TD's

Start him with confidence.

On a snap count per OC

Floor 2 catches 34 yards

Ceiling 5 catches for 70 yards

proceed with caution, as the hawks coaching staff has said were not changing our playing style for Harvin

I think it's a difficult one to predict.

Seattle typically runs heavy at the start of a game to set up the play-action pass. They have also spent time widening the field recently with bubble screens (mostly to Tate in recent weeks).

There are two scenarios I see:

- Harvin plays in the slot with Baldwin out wide and Tate on the opposite side. They use Harvin to pull the safety down and take shots to Baldwin on the outside (they did this against the Vikings with success). Furthermore, this isolates Tate on the other side with (presumably) Corey White which is a complete mismatch. In this case I see Harvin getting a shot or two downfield and perhaps a couple of bubble screens.

- They isolate Harvin and put Tate and Baldwin on the same side. This would force safety help over the top and put their top CB up against Harvin. This would make for more slants or shallow crosses. The targets might not be the same but it may produce more consistent results.

I really think only 5-6 targets and 3-4 catches is a reasonable expectation. Seattle, as you mentioned, doesn't rely on the passing game. Now if they end up down in the second half it could be a different story, or if NO somehow manages to keep Lynch in check. I honestly do not see that happening though.

As I type this, I realize I am overthinking this. But, as a Harvin owner and a guy in the playoffs week 14 and hopefully beyond, the best case scenario is a New Orleans victory. I want the Hawks to need to win and thus to give Harvin opportunities to make plays and win games, instead of monitoring his healthy for the NFL playoffs.
The upside is, Seattle is going to pull out all the stops to win home field advantage, its huge for them. This game against NO is huge since its also the tie-breaker. So yeah, everybody ought to cheer for the Saints.
To be fair the game is far more important to the Saints. Hawks are a better road team than the saints, they also hold a larger lead within their own division. This is a must win for the Saints.
It is a game they want to win it is not a must win. Spoken clearly like a Seahawk fan. :P
Carolina breathin down your neck should make you nervous.
They play the Panthers twice in the next 4 weeks, the Saints is hardly a must win. Sounds like someone is already setting up excuses.
It might be a must win. We won't know for sure until the end of the season. But the Saints could easily look back at this game as being the difference. Yes, they'll probably make the playoffs if they lose. But they may not play any playoff games at home. You seem to be discounting Carolina as a legitimate threat to beat NO once or even twice.

coach carroll said no snap count going forward. Did something change?
Snap count for Harvin =/= Seahawks playing style

I'm sure you already know this, but the Seahawks are a running team first and second. They probably will not throw it to Harvin 10 times a game like he was receiving in Minnesota. I'm not sure what people are expecting here, but I don't think the addition of Harvin turns the Seahawks into a passing team.

Of course, I could very well be wrong.

source for the snap count? ceiling of 5/70 is laughably wrong. Golden Tate has had plenty of better games than that

They don't have to for Harvin to get touches and be productive.

minnesota had adp. They werent a running team too?

Not putting him in my lineup until I see what the Seahawks do with him. Don't trust them at all. They seem to have no problem bringing in big-name guys to do nothing. Like Zach Miller. Hope this won't be the case with Harvin, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's nothing more than a flex-type WR rest of his career due to the way things seem to run out in Seattle. If that ends up being the case, what a waste.

are you seriously equating Zach Miller with Percy Harvin?

Too many question marks for me to trust him this week. Not going to get burnt taking a 3/40 line in his first full game back. Just needing to see four full quarters out of him before I committ to him as my wr2.

RENTON, Wash. -- Seattle receiver Percy Harvin did not participate in practice Friday, which will lead to increased speculation about whether he will play Monday night against the New Orleans Saints.

Harvin

Seattle Coach Pete Carroll will talk to reporters after Saturday's practice, so he likely will give updated information on Harvin's status then.

Harvin, who had major hip surgery Aug. 1 to repair a torn labrum, made his Seahawks debut Nov. 17 against his former Minnesota teammates, returning a kickoff 58 yards and making an impressive fingertip catch on a 17-yard pass.

Carroll said Harvin was "a little sore" after the game, but nothing serious.

The Seahawks did not practice on Thanksgiving, but Harvin was listed as limited in practice Wednesday and only did rehab work Tuesday. Carroll said Wednesday the Seahawks will be cautious with Harvin the rest of this season.

"We will go day to day with how we take care of him," Carroll said. "So yeah, that's what we're facing, I think, probably through the entire finish of the regular season."

Everyone else was a full participant in practice Friday with the exception of cornerback Brandon Browner, who is out with a groin injury while awaiting a final decision from the league on a possible one-year suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

I don't think you understand the term "equating" if you think that's what I did.

Who knows what Carroll has up his sleeve. He might be trying to pull a fast one and Harvin is full go against the Saints. They need him.

So he rushed back and now seems to have had a significant setback. Original outlook to return was week 13-14, right? What a mess.

Wow, what a complete and total surprise.

No way they'd risk him in a game against the Vikes right before the bye. Dec. 2 against the Saints is a possibility.
This is what I said right after the injury. If he doesn't play this week I don't expect him to play next week either.
Wrong.
Right, although I suppose you enjoyed that one catch.

People thinking Percy will play in the regular season is in denial or never owned Harvin. He's not a fast healer and he doesn't like to play hurt. Don't kid yourselves.
Crow.
But....we is in denial.
Crow, huh?
I'm not in the habit of agreeing with ITS. On anything.

But it is still the regular season, technically...
And now?

It seems like you are taking a lot of pleasure in Harvin having a setback.

Well kinda, given his performance two weeks ago. I guess you know more about these things than Dr. Jene. Congrats, they should give you a job on staff here.

Well, he played, and it's still the regular season...
