Has anyone witnessed anything like this? Anti Mask Guy is an angry elf (1 Viewer)

I have a 12 year old son who was dying to see Spider-Man before it was spoiled for him. Local theater offers a chance to rent the whole theater for up to 10 people for $90. You rent it before the first official showing that day. Unfortunately, they had no availability until next Thursday and that was unacceptable to my son. Due to going to the Rangers game tonight and his two hockey games over the weekend, I pick him up from school early and we see a 12:30 showing today (save me the I’m the worst parent stuff. Kid is high honor roll and doing great. He can miss 3 classes.)

Anyway, we get there and are buying our popcorn and drinks and this guy comes in behind us. Now it’s a 12:30pm movie on a Friday and the staff consists of an old timer who probably doesn’t want to be alone in the house all day, and a girl who is somewhere on the spectrum (zero wrong with that, just trying to paint the picture)

old timer asks the guy if he has a mask. Guy says no. Old timer slides one over for him and guy replies I will not wear this, don’t bother giving it to me. Old timer says, sorry sir, if you don’t wear a mask, we can sell you a ticket. Guy takes his phone out and starts videoing. He begins a whole diatribe. What is your name sir and are you prepared to be the responsible party in my lawsuit against the movie theater. You could tell old timer was regretting ever taking this job. Angry elf starts saying that it is not a law to force someone to wear a mask BUT not allowing someone to come to the movies without a mask is discrimination. Old timer and the girl at the counter say, please give us a second to call our manager.

My kids and I take our popcorn and candy and make our way over to the drink station. That is when my son says, this anti mask guy is an angry elf.

In the end, he was not sold a ticket and I wish him all the best in his lawsuit. Lol. My kids sat down in the theater and laughed as they said that guy was the biggest Karen ever.

we have never seen anything like that, have you?

saw a guy kicked out of a bar last night because he wouldn't wear a mask while standing in line to get a drink at the bar.   if he had been sitting at the bar or had waited for his waitress to bring him a drink at his table he wouldn't have had to wear a mask.

I was going to say best parent ever.

yup, walking into walmart behind a short stocky bald guy that reminded me of Costanza before he opened his mouth. walmart has a manned sign at the entrance: the cdc bla bla bla, if you don't have a mask please use a complimentary mask. And there's an open box of masks on the table above the sign.

Poor guy behind the sign says, "Excuse me sir. We are requiring masks based on cdc recommendations."

Costanza guys replies in anger, "I'm a doctor. Masks are a useless waste of time. I will not wear one!"

He literally stomped by the table and went shopping. I so wish he said he was an architect.

I was on a plane not that long ago where a whole family had issues with mask wearing (I actually spotted them with said issue in the terminal before we ever boarded). They were asked to put them back on 8 times between Tampa and Las Vegas. At one point, the dad goes up near the cockpit and lectures a flight attendant on their uselessness. I really feel for flight attendants these days. It was one of the most uncomfortable flights I’ve ever been on.

Even if you believe this to be true, why make a big deal about it? No, wait, why make ANY type of deal over it? You know the rules before you board. Wearing a mask is about as simple and easy as it gets. I honestly can't believe people making these scenes are doing it over anything to do with their belief on the effectiveness of masking. I believe the true reasons are much less "honorable." It also speaks volumes about the person as a human being.

Agreed 100%. It’s not hard and it’s mandatory on flights whether you agree with the science or not. At a couple of points, I seriously thought the flight was going to be diverted and the family escorted off the plane.

Oregonians have been pretty good about wearing masks, but have seen a couple of disgruntled male Karens squawk about wearing them.  One guy at BWW was with his group at the bar, all got up the leave, 3 of them put on a mask to walk to the short distance to the door.  But not Mr. Karen.  When the bartender reminded him to put on his mask he shouted that he was vaxxed!   She said "doesn't matter, it's the law if you aren't sitting at your table" and that's when he went with "F YOU!".

Female manager who stands about 5'1" ran after him, chewed him out and 86'd him from the place.  It was glorious.

Go back a few decades and you'll see his grandpa angry at the fact that he now has to put on a shirt and shoes to enter a business.

I think masks are stupid and pointless but I wear them whenever a place asks me to and I don’t complain about it.

I will even put them on when going through a fast food window or anytime I have to interact with a person wearing a mask.

Even if I think they’re stupid, I don’t want to make somebody uncomfortable. It’s just common courtesy.

This all a bunch of dumb.

Manager is dumb. Bartender is dumb Chad is dumb. State law is dumb.

Manager and bartender made it less safe for the entire restaurant from a covid perspective by engaging in more conversation than was needed. I would bet that the requirement to have people wear a mask from table to exit has prevented zero cases whereas getting in people's faces and arguing has probably caused some.

A more common sense approach would have been staff wearing quality masks, a limit on the number of people inside, zero waiting room crowds, and doors open when not below a certain temp or above a certain wind speed.

Instead we went with pandemic theatre.

Well then maybe you should be in charge of policy.

So the smarter thing would be a list that includes businesses limiting paying customers? This whole post makes me want to shake my head. Karens have won.

i saw a woman, losing her mind in costco.  she was eventually thrown out and her membership was revoked for going bonkers on 4-5 employees.  when she was screaming at them to call the cops, the manager looked at me, sort of overwhelmed.  i just nodded at him and said, "call em, that's what she wants"  he smiled and pulled out his phone.  good times.

No. Closest I had was June of 20202 we opened the school for kids/parents to come pick up next years schedules and clean out lockers. I asked one dad to put on a mask. He didn’t argue and he wore the mask but he talked to his daughter quite loudly so all could hear “these ####### teachers will believe anything CNN tells them, what a bunch of stupid sheep.”

This is the way to handle this.

Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity, if even just a little.
I restored mine by doing Uber for a few months between jobs. I did roughly 400 fairs and only two people were rude. A lady who spilled coffee and didn’t even let me know (brand new truck) and another verbally abusive girl who I was able to eventually have her asking me for my number. (To which I politely declined as I’m steadymarried.)

The other 398 fairs were awesome experiences. Most people are cool, it’s the bad apples as they say.

I waited tables in college and beyond.  97% of the tables were full of normal, decent people - many of them terrific and generous.  But the 3% that were not stick in memory forever for their awfulness, rudeness and abhorrent behavior.

Hope that nasty human trait breeds itself out of humankind.

True enough. We all understand that someone NOT raising a ruckus isn't newsworthy. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that.

I've got 5 kids and I've seen my fair share of temper tantrums.  Giving into them - hard as it may be - rewards them for intolerable behavior.  Just feel like there are sooooo many adults walking this planet that got their way in childhood by throwing tantrums with parents who either didn't put a stop to it or - probably more correct - modeled the behavior.

Of course it would be smarter if you were trying to limit spread. How do you not immediately understand that fewer people in a waiting room/lobby would lead to less spread than having people wear masks as they walk out but they can sit there with them off at the table.

What is wrong with you?

tl;dr version please
OP and his kid saw a dude at a 7-11 pull out a gun because some old cranky Vietnam vet was engaged in fisticuffs with a elf who was on his way to the mall to help Santa out. The Vietnam vet body slammed the Elf and then took two in the chest from the unkown assailant. OPs kid caught the license plate which read STNRKLS.

Is the OPs and his kid a Karen for reporting this to the police?

How much is it to rent out the theater?  What's the kid's schedule that week?  Is he getting high honors?

Or, we could just lock down and not leave our homes at all for the next 6 months. Just wear the darn masks. Society isn’t asking much for a mitigant that helps businesses stay open to serve those who feel even minimally more safe living their lives.

Anyone who shoots in portrait mode should be shot. You are literally wasting two thirds of the screen.
It is my right to shoot in portrait mode, regardless of any mandates you put out there! There is a guy on twitter who knows a photographer who said that the 2/3s of the screen that you say I’m ”wasting” is fake news and made up by the pixel lobbyists in Washington in order to extend the lifespan of the camera sensors! My forefathers didn’t have to turn their cellphones sideways to shoot video and You aren’t going to force me to do it either!!!!!!!!!!

eta- portrait video should not even be an available option, maybe this can be the movement that unifies us all and brings about peace in our time.

Probably just had a PhD in marine biology.

Not like the example posted by OP but an odd encounter yesterday.

Having an issue with my vehicle so needed to rent a car for a few days. Go to the local Enterprise and walk in. I mask wherever so don’t bother reading signs. Pleasant young man behind the counter just getting after it as he’s the only one working, waiting on a older gentleman who is returning a car, older dude is also masked, younger dude not. Older guys wife walks in toward the end of the transaction and her & hubs were talking then she asks younger dude, your sign out front says masks required but you’re not wearing one? Young fella apologizes and says I’m sorry if that makes you feel uncomfortable in a very respectful manner, finishes up the transaction, wishes them a Happy Holidays and they leave.

Hadn’t seen something like that before.

I've seen people act foolish who are anti mask and pro mask.  I tend to gravitate toward places where you're given a choice, if possible.

Forget the mask, wear a raincoat.

If your progeny, and their progenies thereafter after are as furtile as you the Pacific Northwest will be peopled by hilaious albinos with unhinged jaws in only a few generations. What a daunting prospect.
