Has Detroit's Run Defense improved since last year? (1 Viewer)

Usually Detroits Run Defense is a walking doormat for opposing RB's. Last year, Detroit was an awful 24th overall in the league against the run. So how can we explain the Detroit Rushing D bottling up last years rushing champ SA last week? Have they improved that much?

Because they have improved, and sometimes, defenses have good games, while running backs have bad games.

If they played Seattle 100 times, last week's results would happen maybe 5 times.

i have to say they will continue to be strong this year. Defense has so much to do with attitude and i think Marinelli has brought a military atttitude to the Lions. They obviously wont average 9 PPG allowed all year, but I think they will definitely be in the top half of the D's this year. and that is saying something given how bad they have been

actually- i think it would be the other way around. like 95/100they manhandled seattles running game and i think they can do it to a lot of teams IF they play with that kind of fire. Detroits offense is gonna have to be better at keeping drives alive, last years run defense would have been better statiscally but if you figure all the three and outs that they had, not to mentioned getting behind in virtually every game

The Lions are more aggressive. Shaun Rogers is a beast, too.. but he has been for a few years now.

Ernie Sims upgrades the LBs.. but he's still learning on the job and while he flies to the ball, he also over-runs his fair share of plays.

We'll see if they can maintain the level of play they established against Seattle. The previous poster was right, too. The Lions defensive up front fared very well against the Seahawks offensive line. Rogers is the key to everything.

They have an extremely talented D-line and a great head coach that has them playing inspired football. If Detroit ever manages to put some points on the board, their D will be legit all year long.

Anyone who watched the game would agree with this... The Lions front four were crushing SA all day long, he fumbled once, and nearly fumbled again shortly after.. Sims was always around the ball laying hits and Bailey made some nice plays in limited time. Bly is always a playmaker and Bryant looked solid early until hey got injured... This is a much improved, more inspired Lions D and it gives homers like me something to root about until their offense comes around...
