Has your Lyft/Uber ride gone up? (1 Viewer)

My normal bar to home Lyft went from 14 to 22.  That was the taxi fair price that led me to lyft.

Anyone else notice a price jump?

Seems like a frequent rider perk...

Is Uber Really Charging Frequent Users Higher Fares?

By Aaron MakMar. 30, 2018 6:40 PM

Last week, the popular blog “The Rideshare Guy” published a postfrom contributor Will Preston, who speculated that Uber had been charging customers more if they frequently use the service. Preston identified himself as a high frequency user who regularly hails rides to and from the San Diego airport, and noticed that he was being charged 10 to 30 percent more than the local mile per minute rate. He further noted that his wife, a less frequent user, often had cheaper fares for the same trip, and that there was no sign of surge pricing inflating the cost when he checked his Uber driver app. Plus, he had been riding during non-peak hours with little traffic.

I check Uber and Lyft every ride. Lyft was $23 so I checked Uber and it was $35. Went to book on Lyft and it was $33. Guess I'll have to check those app permissions. ?

Never used Lyft but for Uber I think a bit on average. For awhile when they had all the bad PR they were sending a lot of promo codes but those seemed to dry up lately.

A buddy showed me an app (I was a little drunk and forget the name) but it pulled up all the ride sharing services, you put in your destination and it showed you which was cheapest at the time.

Ive only used them each a few times and not until last year. I notice they send alot of promo codes. Maybe you're getting standard rates and your wife who is an infrequent user is getting promo codes?

Never used either, but you have to think the price would go up. Prices of cars is up over the last few years, price of gas is up to 2.86 an average across the country one year ago it was 2.27.

Gas is going up and drivers make really thin margins. They need to raise rates if they want people to keep driving.

The hidden costs of all these is the wear and tear on the car which is all borne by the drivers.  As drivers start to realize how much this actually costs, they will quite driving or demand more money.

I understand your point but its not a hidden cost, maybe an underestimated cost but who the heck doesn't know they are putting wear and tear on a car when they drive it?

Still a ####load cheaper than a taxi for me and I think a good deal for the drivers (particularly with tipping).  Been thinking about getting Lyft to keep my Uber prices in check.  Both are probably just creating a market for Amazon to take once they get too greedy.

This was always the plan. Kill the regulated taxi industry by offering cheaper prices, get everyone used to using it, raise prices higher than the old industry.

It's standard business.
The regulated taxi industry was regulated really badly. Horrible business. Good riddance.
