Have the Packers fixed their Defense? (1 Viewer)

Unfortunately I haven't been able to keep tabs on much of anything this off season, but was curious as to what steps the Packers have taken to improve their D this year. If my memory serves me correctly, they were a pretty damn good defense 2 years ago. If the Packers defense gets back to respectable, will that have a negative impact on their aggressive playcalling?

They drafted a ton of players this year. Despite that, the defense looks as mediocre so far in 2012 preseason as it did last year. The most improved player - CB Davon House - has an injured shoulder that either needs surgery or will require him to play with a shoulder harness all season. LB Desmond Bishop, one of the few playmakers in the front 7, is likely out for the season. Granted, his replacement (DJ Smith) is doing a very good job, but it damages one of the few depth spots for this defense.

Disagree. 15-1 means you're in the playoffs. 15-1 means you have homefield. 15-1 definitely worth something.

We won't know for sure until the regular season starts, but early indications are that it won't be improved drastically. They still can't cover the middle of the field to save their life. The defensive line seems to be pushed back pretty easily. Still question marks at safety. Tramon Williams looks more himself after playing through a shoulder injury last year, so that's a positive. There's promising young talent in the secondary, but it's still very raw. Loss of Bishop doesn't help.

That said, you never really know until the regular season starts. They may get better as the year goes on as the rookies gain more experience. There seems to be potential there.

This is pretty accurate. As stated before House was looking like a great cornerback this spring and preseason until his shoulder injury. With Woodson moving to safety the Pack really needed another guy to step up in the secondary and House was it. We'll see if he can play through the injury (it's possible, I think Woodson or Collins did it one year and had a good season).

The Pack generated the most INTs and tied for most turnovers overall last year. 2011 turnover stats

Perhaps you were just referring to their playoff loss vs NYG? If so, that just demonstrates the boom-bust nature of over-relying on turnovers instead of solid defense.

They lost to the Champs. That's just acting spoiled.I bet they still give up a ton of yards, but not a ton of TDs.

The original question is "will it impact Rodgers?" It won't. Concussions and other injuries to him or supporting players is really the only concern with Rodgers.

This is spot on. They will be starting 4-5 Rookies and that will be tough to overcome at the beginning of the year.Time will tell.
