HBO - Song of Ice&Fire Series -Varsity Thread - no TV only whiners (3 Viewers)

I thought the conversation between Mara Reed and the child of the forest was one of the more interesting informational points of the episode. It seemed like the child of the forest was implying that Bran is physically going to leave the tree cave when the war starts. I'd always assumed he'd be running the show from the cave.

Interesting that Bolton is relying on the support of the Karstarks, Umbers, and Manderlys given (1) the Umbers were considered such strong allies of the Starks that Rickon was headed there (as someone else pointed out earlier, I think), and (2) the Manderlys are obviously huge closet Stark supporters in the books. I think we'll have a satisfying reversal of fortune for Ramsey.

Watched the preview for next week and have a two part question: Couldn't quite make out who said they have a surprise for Ramsey and who do we think is the surprise?

:(

Dang.  I'll be that's it.  I was just trying to figure out who the dude was, hadn't had time to do the math on the gift yet.
Could go either way there though. Maybe the Umbers will pull a fast one now that Roose is out of the picture. The last shot in that clip has the gift giver taking a position behind Ramsay, with Ramsay having a goofy grin on his face* - perfect back stab opportunity there. Would be interesting either way if Rickon's the gift.

* I mean, seriously, you pause that frame he looks like he's channeling friggin Stan Laurel.

Dany and Dorne seem like natural allies to me here.

Ellaria doesn't care to rule, she just wants dead Lannisters.

Maybe not this season, but I could see it.  Dany takes her Unsullied and some Dothrakis over the pond, has a little meeting with Ellaria and the Sand Snakes.

Maybe they all take a nice steam together in Dorne.  Messandi is obviously there, as trusted advisor.

Could be a great scene.

Candidate for dumbest move: Sons of the harpy burning Danaerys's ships. We hate you and want you to leave our city so much that we'll destroy the quickest method of transportation you've got for your troops. Take that!

The Umbers using Rickon to game Ramsay would be on of the great plot twists ever.

I thought there were scenes of a great Bolton battlefield in the season preview clips - something about the flayed men X-crosses in the field - am I mis-remembering that?  If so, then Ramsey is still around to lead them into battle.

They did show that for the season preview clip. Looked like they were pressing up on the wildlings.

Ramsey being torn apart by hounds is clearly going to be the most satisfying death in TV history.  Maybe by Ghost?
I think if you're going for full satisfaction for Ramsey's end it'd be: he gets raped by Hodor, gets flayed, gets his johnson chopped off, gets marinated in BBQ sauce, and then gets eaten by dogs.

The gift is either Theon or Rickon as I don't think Theon is heading to the Iron Islands..  They might be pulling a bit of trickery by showing the Umber banners and then a guy who isn't an Umber saying they have a gift for him.

I have to imagine that Walda Frey is taking the place of the two little Frey boys who Manderly dispatched of....in that, Ramsey is probably going to tell Walder that she wanted to go back to the Riverlands, he acquiesed and she went missing.

It seems way too early for Ramsay to die right after he killed his father and took charge of Winterfell and the Bolton forces.

Also.... (spoiler on something I read about this year's show in case people don't want to see it)...

There is a battle later on this season which was rumored to be called "Battle of the Bastards". Presumably Ramsay vs Jon.

Yes. And somebody burning on the flayed cross.

So, I'm sure this is a spoiler that will piss someone off, but did you guys see the youtube this British tourist/hiker put up where he secretly filmed the Tower of Joy scene being filmed? Apparently he had to hike several hours in the hills of rural Spain to get this footage, but doesn't seem to know much about the show or scene because he thinks Sean Bean is in it, and keeps saying, "get him Beanie!"

I wish the winterfell scenes were more than just Ramsay and Roose. There is a ton of #### going down in the books but you wouldn't know it

I wonder if we get the blackfish ever?

who is the guy from deadwood playing?

everybody is converging on the wall. Big battle and then the white walkers show up?

Ian McShane means well, but the offhand comments he's made in interviews have given away a couple major spoilers. It seems he had no idea how closely his words would be scrutinized and how easily the fan base would decipher his comments and determine exactly what he's going to do. I won't post the big one, but will say it does seem very likely he'll play Septon Meribald (or a conglomerate character that includes Meribald) and will therefore deliver the great "Broken Man" speech.

I had thought he was going to be Crows Eye but obviously not.  Then I hoped he was the  maester who is familiar with the dark arts (forget his name)

Marwyn IIRC.
Right!  I kept thinking Harwin and knew that was wrong.

I really hope GRRM does not change anything due to the show spoiling things or fan reaction etc.  The books are so great despite what some think of Crows and Dragons.

Right, if it were the Karstark's who had Rickon, maybe.

Don't see why the Umber's would betray the Stark's.
Don't think Umbers were killed at red wedding in the show.  Books I think they have great jon hostage so they have been towing the line but imagine they will jump ship if they can given small Jon was killed at red wedding.

And I can't see an Umber giving up a Stark.

From that perspective, it could be Theon. That seems repetitive though. We've already been down that path.

Could be. But some body is burning on a flayed cross in that preview, and my guess is it's the gift, whoever that may be.
I mean, they showed Shireen being burned, but I dunno if they go that route with Rickon.

Ramsay wouldn't kill him before confronting Jon/taunting him with it first.

I wonder if that is why we are re-visiting the Iron Islands - they end up joining in the battle with Snow and the Wildings against Boltons.

what if Theon's "home" is Winterfell? He said Ned was more of a father to him than his actual father. Would be awesome if he snuck back into the castle and went HAM on those dudes, "Ghost of Winterfell" style
