This might just be me, but it didn't even really occur to me in my first round of the books. I thought about it after, then when I went back to re-read them, it seemed pretty obvious. In the Game of Thrones book, Ned is constantly thinking about is sister, and there's the whole Promise me Ned...promise me...they must've written that five or six times. I now feel pretty confident she's making him promise to take her newborn son, and to raise him as his own ******* so that nobody knows he's a Targaryan. It must've bristled his honor (I'm Ned Stark and I am soooo honorable!) but he gave his sister his word, and that too is another thing that requires he act honorable. Even though it pissed Cat something off fierce, he gave his word, and when you're Ned Stark, that's it.Do tv only watchers have any curiosity regarding Jon Snow's mother or lineage? I'm wondering now if the show is passing the books, if that will be one of the big details kept off the screen. We will need something to look forward to and have revealed in the books alone I would think.
Would be awesome. But can we get the next book or two first? KthxSeriously. Make this happen, universe/God/Allah/Spaghettie Monster.A book about Roberts Rebellion and the build up would be awesome![]()
Game Of Thrones: George R.R. Martin Says People Are Going To Die Who Don't Die In
By Jamie Lovett

A Song of Ice and Fire autor George R.R. Martin has earned a reputation for being a particular deadly writer, when it comes to his characters. It turns out Martin may have met his betters in that department in D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, the creators and showrunners of Game of Thrones, the television adaptation of Martin's fantasy series. Martin made a surprise appearance at Saturday night's Writers Guild West Awards, and warned fans that Weiss and Benioff were planning to up the death toll in Game of Thrones Season 5 from what it was in Martin's books.
People are going to die who dont die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy, Martin said. So everybody better be on their toes. David and D.B. are even bloodier than I am.
Game of Thrones Season 5 will be an interesting one for fans of Martin's original series, as the television adaptation has begun to catch up with the book series. Fans will be left to wonder what a death of a character on screen who is still alive in the books will mean for that character once Martin's final two books in the series are released.
Speaking of those final two books, Martin tells ShowBiz411 that he's planning that he's still got two books left to write, but how many seasons of television that translates into is up to Benioff, Weiss, and HBO.
This is the fifth season, the sixth season HBO picked up last year. We will have a 7th, 8th or 9th, no one knows. They only renew one or two seasons at a time. After we do season 6, maybe well get a renewal for 7th and 8th. That all depends, Television is a very changeable medium.
Yeah, its the hottest show on TV now, but will it be the hottest show on TV two years from now? Hot shows come and go and television changes, and Ive lived through that before. I certainly hope that we get to tell the entire story. Because whatever happens with the show Im going to finish the books, it will be seven books. But each of these books are 1500 pages long and they each have enough material in them for several seasons. I have two more books, the one Im writing right now, The Winds Of Winter, and after that the last book, The Dream of Spring, so those will be the two final books. But were talking 3000 pages of material. How many seasons that translates too? Thats up to D.B. And David.

doubt it, what percentage of tv viewers are book readers? They've already killed off minor characters (like the dothraki who may not be minor in the books but is replaceable in tv) so I wonder if this is more of that or something that will actually shock and change the story. I think they lose viewers though if there's major deviation.
He'd have to be sent to Dorne, which seems odd.Lot of speculation on the nerd boards that Bronn may bite it as a replacement for Arys Oakheart. He's been off-stage in the books since the turn of the millenium.

Maybe Arya and Tyrion still get together or Tyrion falls in love with her like Martin's initial outline? Or maybe Tyrion and Sansa stay married and end up ruling together and squashing the stark/York lannister/Lancaster beef?IF the original story was following the War of the Roses loosely, the Lancaster family finally defeated the York family with Henry Tudor, who then married a York descendant uniting the families once and for all. If Lancaster is Lannister and York is Stark (and Tyrell is Tudor) it is shaping up that way slightly. And it would like be Arya who is the Elizabeth character who would rule finally in the golden age of Tudor's. But that is also a way off from the timeline of the story if they stick to it. Or they could have veered off of that completely now given that House Stark is basically in ruin.
Are you friggin kiding me? He's got enough distractions now without adding another. Just praying he actually finishes the series before he goes Jordan on us.Seriously. Make this happen, universe/God/Allah/Spaghettie Monster.A book about Roberts Rebellion and the build up would be awesome![]()
I see the later happening more. Martin set up the possibility of them falling in love late in the story by developing real sympathy between them.Taken from the TV thread

Martin has said he prefers HBO take a hiatus and maybe do prequels while he finishes the story. Then have the second half of the final book be a theatrical release.I'd be happy for him to sell the rights and just have HBO make it.Are you friggin kiding me? A big chunk of the story so far is about Robert's Rebellion and the leadup. It's just been revealed a paragraph or a page at a time across five books. Are you friggin kiding me? If they skipped a season and did a movie of Roberts rebellion bringing back Ned and Robert and really giving the backstory and letting viewers learn more about the lead up and Neds sister .... Wow that could be an epic foreshadow of the final season.A big chunk of the story so far is about Robert's Rebellion and the leadup. ETA: follow the links in each section to see the full details of each event or battle. It's probably 20 or 25 pages of material altogether. Basically a small novella if you collected it all in once place.
Nobody could touch "Reek" for that honor...at least, if you consider him a main character. To continue his storyline the way Martin has though, I would assume there's more in store for him at some point.I think Sansa's already past the "sunshine and unicorns and rainbows" part of her life.
It would be a tight race, but I think a strong case could be made that she's suffered more abuse than any of the main characters.
Yeah, I was only thinking of the Starks, Tyrion, and Dany when I wrote that but good point about Theon.Nobody could touch "Reek" for that honor...at least, if you consider him a main character. I never thought otherwise anyway.Changes to the story aside, that's pretty close to confirmation that Jon Snow lives IMO.
Yes. Exactly this.Clifford said:So I take it the perverted goat-lord of the nerds is still sitting on his fat bilious ### and doing nothing other than date-raping extras?

I think Martin, and the publishers, will rue the day that people know what is going to happen before the books come out.Its official... HBO will be moving ahead of the books: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/70831

They should have pushed harder on Martin to get the next book out - and ride the wave of popularity created by the show. Now, when the books do get out, there will be a collective![]()
That's why I asked earlier about viewers caring about Jon Snow's lineage and what really happened during Roberts Rebellion etc. Are there things that can be left for the books that are important overall but not to the story being told on TV?I think Martin, and the publishers, will rue the day that people know what is going to happen before the books come out. They should have pushed harder on Martin to get the next book out - and ride the wave of popularity created by the show.
