Seriously though, he's a good coach, no doubt. But until he has the hardware, it means that he's got a good team, nothing more. George Allen never gets mentioned in the GOAT conversation despite having a better win% than anyone not named Lombardi or Madden. Coffee is for closers.

Every time I watch the 49ers, Harbaugh seems to make a mistake... Today he cost his team 15 when you know the play will be reviewed. Other times he botches challenges... didn't he run on the field as well when Atlanta was attempting a FG (down by 10) with just a few seconds left?

His running onto the field had NOTHING to do with wanting the play reviewed. Hometown clock operators were trying to run the game clock down to 0 even after a called incomplete pass. I think it's reasonable to run out screaming when you see your chance for points unfairly ticking away.

You could think it reasonable... but you would be wrong. The vast majority of the time, replay will get the thing straight. If you act like a jack wagon - and lose 15 yards - your chance at a TD are nil if you don't get the call. they can fix the game clock too...

To be honest, I'm putting this more on Harbaugh and Roman. As soon as they could they put him in the offense and literally let him run with it, adding a lot more plays and pretty much changing the offense on the fly. Harbaugh is a supposed QB Guru, but over the past three seasons the 49ers have had a mediocre passing offense. The design of the passing offense is just stupid. They have Kaep lining up in pistol, shotgun, as well as under center. He has a lot of offense thrown at him each week, and even this game they made adjustments on the fly to deal with the crowd noise. Overall Kaep seemed to be able to handle the crowd and being on the road in SEA even after turning the ball over during the 4th quarter to get them into a position to win. He made a great pass to Gore on a critical 4th down. Even then, Harbaugh failed to put him in a position to win because he had time outs and didn't use them.

I think they know what they have in Kaep, but I don't see them doing much to help him improve. GM Trent Baalke crapped the bed with his 2012 draft, Kaep had only one WR in Boldin most of the season, the 2013 draft has a lot of inactive players, and Gore hit a wall this game. A Vet QB would have to be on the level of Tom Brady, Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers to deal with that. Andrew Luck knows the Harbaugh offense, so he would fit right in too. But they all play for other teams.

I give Kaep one more year, and then see what they do with him. You can ask any 49er fan here about what I have thought about Kaep this season, and they'll attest that I have been harsh on him late in the season.

It's entirely unclear what sort of compensation San Francisco was seeking, but pretty clear at this point that the Niners may be headed for a divorce with Harbaugh, probably after next season. Right now it's out there - Harbaugh's for sale, he just has to want to go to your city/team.

Contra to the idea that if SF wins a SB, it will make Harbaugh less likely to leave, maybe if they go 9-7 or 10-6 with a 1st round playoff exit, or worse, then it makes it more likely he will leave.

Most NFC fans would be glad to see him go, just so long as here goes to the AFC.

Agree. I'm not a fan or a hater on Harbaugh but it is hard to dispute his body of work. He basically took the same players Singletary had and morphed them into an instant contender with a clear identity.

On the flip side of that, look at how many picks the Niners have had. Give any team an average of 3 more picks than everyone else in the league for 3 seasons and I'm sure any GM can make that spaghetti stick to the wall in some places (although we do have to look at who made it possible for them to GET those picks).

Well, that would mean a bite to Parag Marathe, who has been in a greater position of power ever since the Terry Donahue fiasco. He's Jed's right hand man. Baalke is Marathe's guy. Marathe has always tried to emulate NE's model of roster and management of it with contracts and the player's value reflecting it. The problem is they both don't know offense. Hell, Singletary had to keep Baalke away from Jimmy Clausen. He forced Taylor Mays on them though, lol.

Overall Kaep seemed to be able to handle the crowd and being on the road in SEA even after turning the ball over during the 4th quarter to get them into a position to win. He made a great pass to Gore on a critical 4th down. Even then, Harbaugh failed to put him in a position to win because he had time outs and didn't use them.

I think they know what they have in Kaep, but I don't see them doing much to help him improve. GM Trent Baalke crapped the bed with his 2012 draft, Kaep had only one WR in Boldin most of the season, the 2013 draft has a lot of inactive players, and Gore hit a wall this game. A Vet QB would have to be on the level of Tom Brady, Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers to deal with that. Andrew Luck knows the Harbaugh offense, so he would fit right in too. But they all play for other teams.

I give Kaep one more year, and then see what they do with him. You can ask any 49er fan here about what I have thought about Kaep this season, and they'll attest that I have been harsh on him late in the season.

A source with inside knowledge of the 49ers told the San Francisco Chronicle that coach Jim Harbaugh's "act has worn thin" inside the team's locker room, particularly among "face of the 49ers" type players.
The 49ers have been able to overcome the friction due to winning, but the Chronicle's Ann Killion suggests "a few losses could expose a widening rift." This is the first report of players having problems with Harbaugh. To this point, it's only been reported that Harbaugh doesn't get along with GM Trent Baalke. It's becoming very clear 2014 will be Harbs' final year with the 49ers.

I see a 30 for 30 movie in about 20 years. It could go one of two ways. First Harbaugh leaves and goes to the Jaguars, Browns or something and takes that team to new heights and the 49er's fall back into obscurity or second Harbaugh leaves and flops as a coach and the 49ers continue to be one of the NFL's best franchises. Either way I will watch it.

Edit: Actually it could go a 3rd way where both Harbaugh and the 49er's fall flat on their faces. What if I told you that two men that couldn't stand each other, should have stayed together.
