Looks like I will be spending a couple of weeks in Heidelberg in April.

Anyone know the area? Tips, things to see/do?

TIA

Was there for work a few years ago for a couple days. Very cool looking German town. Don't remember a ton but this place was memorable and was great for dinner: Schnitzelbank

There was a main street, think they even called it that, which was very cool to walk right in the middle of the old part of town. I'm sure when you are there everyone will know which one I'm talking about.

The castle up the hill the overlooks the city was worth it for the views of the town/river and the tour.

Drank and ton of good beers and ate great food on that trip, sure you will enjoy yourself.

Castle as mentioned was great. I would plan a few weekend trips though, not really a city where you will have a ton of touristy stuff to do after the first few days. Spent a day there while backpacking through Europe a while back and felt I saw the whole city in a few hours. Clearly that's never the case, but you get the point.

Rhine River booze cruise is always fun.

Heidelberg is a great town though, lots of stuff to do right there. University city too, so lots of shops and artisan activities.

love Heidelberg and have spent quite a bit of time there. On phone right now, but can post more from computer tomorrow. One word, Vetters.

very cute town. loved the walled city and castle. night watchman's tour is worth doing. museum of crime and punishment. it is very touristy during the day and more quiet at night. munich is about 3.5 hrs away and frankfurt is about an hour. if you have time, and someone to drive...i would check out the mosel-saar wine region.... highlights were cochem, koblenz, and bernkastel-kues.
