Either that or continue to get no respect. The reason is if they played big teams away they'd lose most of the time.
Running an NCAA football program is really, really, really expensive- moreso for Hawaii than anyone else, because the travel costs are ABSURD. Even for the closest road game, you're looking at plane tickets to the mainland for 100+ people in addition to hotels and the like. Teams need home games for the revenue. An elite NCAA program CAN NOT support itself while playing nothing but road games in non-conference. They can't afford better facilities, they can't afford better coaches, they can barely afford the travel costs. In addition, Hawaii is at an even greater disadvantage on the road because of the travel (the same reason they have an even greater advantage at home). Yes, they'd lose more often than not playing big time teams on the road, even if they were just as good as the big time teams.I think what you expect Hawaii to do before you'll give them any respect is positively ludicrous. I'd be fine with one or two big games a year so that we can get some sort of barometer of how they compare to the elite programs in the nation. After that, just play your conference and whatever home games you need to to keep your football program profitable.
