Here is some information to help you vote:

Note that I am only talking about completed TV shows below and in my poll so no need to mention items like The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones.

*I am a huge fan of TV.

*When I watch a show, I love seeing every episode, every webisode, reading comic and novel tie ins, reading companion books: just getting the full experience

*I prefer drama's but will enjoy non laugh track comedy's

*I prefer arc based shows, be they season long arcs or multiple season long arcs

*My 5 favorite shows ever are:

The Wire, The Sopranos, Buffy, Breaking Bad and Babylon 5

* Other shows I loved include:

Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek TNG, Firefly, The Shield, Oz, Stargate SG1, Deadwood, Chuck, Farscape, Angel, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Extras, The Office (BBC), Arrested Development, and Northern Exposure amongst others

* I am working my way through Dexter right now and want to start thinking about what to line up next. Please see the poll and vote for the show that you think might best fit my tastes or suggest one not on the list.

I know I'm in the minority but I only made it through a few episodes of Six Feet Under. Couldn't get into it. I almost picked Rescue Me. The first few seasons are awesome but it kinda fell apart for the last couple. Still worth watching.

I'll throw in an Other: Rome

Did Rome have a chance to complete its story or was it cancelled before it could finish, like Deadwood?

It could have gone on but wrapped up nicely for the short run. It's a crime Deadwood didn't have more seasons.

I think Rome is excellent.

Wow, just reading now that they are going ahead with a Rome movie, set 4 years after the series ends.

Nice!

If those are your options, I would recommend reading a book.
There is "other" if you have a suggestion to make.
Rome was awesome but it's very short. Other than that, I would suggest a book.Eta: Friday Night Lights was really good.
I read plenty of books, not looking for more :)

Thanks for the suggestion of Friday Night Lights

My point was just those shows listed aren't very good IMO.

Based on your preferences, try out Lost. Also, Netflix has The West Wing, if you haven't seen it. And 24. All 3 are arc-based shows worth watching.

Seen all 3.

I enjoyed West Wing and 24 but not enough to list them under my loved categories.

I did not enjoy Lost. Gave up during the constant time travel season (forget which season that was).

I enjoyed 6FU but it seems like most of your favorite dramas have a lot of action in them. This show isn't like those at all.

Thanks for dumbing it down, we didn't get your inference.

From the options, I really enjoyed Fringe, it was pretty consistent throughout.

You mentioned non laugh track comedy, I really like Parks and Rec (still on but there are 6 seasons to go through I think).

I voted Fringe, but would also throw my hat in on Friday Night Lights.

It didn't get a proper finale, and only lasted one season, but Freaks and Geeks is something you should fit in during down time.

Of the Sci-Fi choices,

I don't remember if Sanctuary had a true finale, but it was close enough if I remember right. I enjoyed that one.

Andromeda was never more than something to watch while I was the last one up at night.

Never could get into Fringe.

Six Feet and Rescue Me are both head and shoulders above all of those though, and I'm a sucker for sci-fi.

One more: the British series Luther, starring Idris Elba. They have announced that there will not be another season, but there may be a movie.

Six Feet Under and Friday Night Lights are must watch. But they don't really fit into the group of shows you listed.

Fringe is great and the four seasons of Rescue Me that I watched were good too. I'd go with those looking at what you like.

Not a huge sci-fi guy and only seen parts of 6FU and Rescue Me so can't offer opinion on those. From shows you liked West Wing would be good I'd think.

A show called Broadchurch on BBC was amazing. One season murder mystery. They are remaking it here this fall called Gracepoint.

Why just completed series? You'd love Orphan Black. Breaking Bad intensity with a mild sci-fi twist.
I like binge watching and don't enjoy waiting for shows if I can avoid it.

Orphan Black is on my to watch list for sure once it gets deeper into its run or completes it.

Seen West Wing.

I have enjoyed a bunch if BBC shows (Robin Hood,Sherlock, Extras, The Office) so I will investigate Broadchurch.

Fringe got more votes than I expected. I am going to look into Friday Night Lights as that seems to be a popular "other" choice.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and votes :)

I thought 6fu started great and ended well but, as is the case with most HBO series, dragged badly during the middle seasons. As with the other big HBO series, it should have been 2 or max 3 seasons.

Ones off the top of my head worth watching (in my opinion of course):

Deadwood

Rome

Fringe

Dexter

Sons of Anarchy

Black Sails

Game of Thrones

The Americans

Extant

Boardwalk Empire

24

Breaking Bad

Homeland

Tyrant

Thanks for the list. I have seen a bunch of these but will look up some of the others I have not.

Actually I originally voted 6FU but I started thinking about the OP's listed shows and I don't think 6FU will cut it. There are problems with the show for sure and at times I think it got a little contrived and departed from its original theme. It arced so much it perhaps wasn't a true arc anymore.

So I deleted my vote. I wonder how many people have watched all the shows to make a proper vote, I haven't.

Hmm, multiple people have mentioned this now.

What specifically about my list makes 6FU problematic for my tastes? Some one mentioned lack of action but I did not consider The Wire to be action oriented and it was one of my favorite shows.

6fu was too slow for me. Not saying I need running around and guns every scene but story about funeral home didn't do it for me. Stopped about mid way 2nd season.

the list of shows you enjoyed are all shows I liked. based on that I'll give a couple of suggestions out of left field. Gilmore Girls and Veronica mars. Both are dramas with some comedy and both have the witty Buffy dialogue. VM is centered around a mystery. GG is about a mother and daughter living in a small town. VM has more of an edge and GG is more traditional.
